Starling with a bum eye.
DAILY PICS VOL. 271
Fantastic photos Burd. I want Elvis. Will you send him to me? LOL!
Fantastic photos Burd. I want Elvis. Will you send him to me? LOL!
Sorry, cant send Elvis, he will probably leave come spring anyways, and I will be moving, but my neighbor's like birds so he will be fine as they all should.
Looking to get a more rural location.
Starling with a bum eye.
I don't think he has a bum eye. I think you happened to catch him when he blinked. I catch my bluebirds that way a lot, usually when they are looking into the blight sun or when another bird suddenly flies very close to them. Sometimes I even catch them with the eyelid half closed. And it often happens when the male is feeding the female during courtship, she often will have her eyelid closed if his bill is close to her eyes.
Here is a shot from yesterday to illustrate. I think he may have blinked because of the severe wind gusts he was looking into.
Here is the same bird, one second later.
This is the shot before that first one. Could be like you said, protection from the glare, I know it was awful bright at the time with the snow etc.
Cant post a pic with a quote..
Yes you can. Just make the quote, then right click and copy it, Then open a new window and right click and paste the quote. The new window will permit you to browse and post a pic. .
What's that in his mouth?
Looks like a bit of plastic mesh netting. Hope it isn't stuck with it!
Resin
Burd to make a quote just look under where your name is. There is a little Quote Button now to make it EASY!!!!!!
Oooops I see what you meant now....DUH!!!!!
I didn't think to try that Dave Thx!
I finally got an "In-flight" shot. The female House Finch was at my most distant feeder from where I was sitting.
This is hard to do - I mean catch 'em while they're in flight. To take this photo, I just started snapping while it was on the feeder, figuring that when it took off, I'd get it. Looks like it worked.
I used a real fast shutter speed to stop the action.

Nice shots Hack! Your camera should have a continuous setting, when selected you can hold the shutter button down and it will take pic after pic until it hits the cameras limit or slows down. I run continuous all the time myself, my next thing to conquer is running the camera in manual setting.
Burd
You know, Burd, come to think of it, I did read something about continuous shooting. I have to revisit those pages in my book on the 40D.
Thanks, Hack
Love the Flicker nanny! Great shots everyone!
Wow, these pictures add up fast!
CC, wonderful variety of birds there and you did a great job with the camera.
Burd, love that creeper and the starlings with the cowbird is great! That pair is adorable! I'm in love with Elvis! That little guy sure has a cute personality. Maybe when CC gets tired of him, he could come here for a visit. Don't forget to leave him a forwarding address for your new home.
Dave, cute bluebird shots! I agree with you, Burd's starling was blinking. I see it with my crows too. Also, thanks for the info on the quote. I couldn't figure out that one either.
SusanL, great timing with the blink!
Red, wow, that's a nice flock of doves. Keep warm! Your little sparrow looks like it's nice and warm there.
Hack, congrats on the lifers! Cute warbler and junco. Also, thanks for the info on the properties info-my DH installed mine for me. That action shot of the finch is great!! Loved the shot of the titmouse!
Nanny, great job on the flicker and jays. I can't believe the jays would allow that flicker to eat with them. Cute one of the flicker and the starlings too.
This crow couldn't fit anymore nuts in his mouth.
