Big Wheels Keep on Turning in a New Gypsy Year

Dronfield, United Kingdom

JJ,I had one of those type of greenhouses and took it down and packed it into the garage.The condensation in it was awful and any plants were weak and pale specimens:}All my seeds begin their growing life in the house,the front part of which gets any sun going,so my sills become quite crowded by planting out time.Anything that can be sown outside after last frost is easier,but there's not many things I can do like that as last frost can be well into spring here,
I've never grown lillies from seed ,but have 2 types growing outside,Alstromaria's and Hostas,which die back in Autumn and appear again in Spring.
Hope Dillon's not whining too much,he looks too sweet,but I know what it's like,I brought my 2 up on my own,so if they both started,I was way outnumbered:}

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Joy I agree mine is in the basement somewhere.

But from what I've been reading you can take a milk jug and cut almost in half, put in soil, plant sees, water then tape jug back together and set outside in a sunny location and leave. It will germinate and start to grow just like would if it had resowed itself. Then when last frost has gone you just transplant where you want it. No hardening off or anything.

Sounds simple enough, but I have heard start in Jan and then I heard not until Feb or March.

Dillon is in garage with granpa, whining not bothering me any...grin....he comes in he's taking a nap

The milk jug sowing method sounds interesting,JJ,I'm not familiar with it,I'd certainly try it though,the only problem I'd have would be if there wasn't sun on enough days ,but then ,seeds grow in the wild ,or garden,with limited sunny winter days,I guess.
It's always difficult to decide what's best to do ,when you've several sources of information and they differ.If it was me,I'd wait and sow when weather's a bit warmer,maybe March'd be better.
Yes,little boys love to be allowed in the garage,especially their Grandpa's,as it's probably full of interesting things:}

Hello,and Happy New Year to every one! I just had the most stupid,aggravating day I think that I have ever had at work! Simply because of one Judge'swanting to get caught up...of course !We had court in this little building off from the jail,it was a night mare! Because court house was closed today. Mainly DUI's. Did get caught up on some of the back log though. It was one of those you had to have been there things. Grin....

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Here is a link for it Joy.

I think most of the differences in when to do it come from individuals and then they are not always in the same zone as you are.
This site has a lot of info.

Jesup, GA

Ahhhhhh,Smiley the poem is so sweet......like the sun flower too! Back at ya girl. Hi Joy happy New Year to you and yours!

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

I can't believe they held court on New Years Day and the court house was closed.
Sure hope you got paid triple time or something.

You can bet that Judge got paid good...grin

Jesup, GA

Hi JJ's what ya been doing today? Any N.Years resolutions?

Jesup, GA

JJ's if you all could only have seen it. Kangaroo court! One man in there was soooo drunk he was weaving when he walked,and when the deputy was taking him off to jail he threw up on the way out right in the door way! It was so disgusting....that building is small and was full to capacity,and I thought I was going to be sick because of the smell,even after it was cleaned up!

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Hi Dixie,
Been taking it easy today. Cleaned the kitchen a little and done a little laundry.

No resolutions never seem to keep on track so whats the point?
Just try to be a little better than last year.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Yuck that is gross.

I'm sure you don't get paid enough to sit through all that..

GS thinks he needs to eat so be back in a bit.

Jesup, GA

Me too. I just put some laundry in to wash. No I can promise you we dont get paid enough! I did get a good Christmas bonus though. Little GS must be a fellow after my on heart.....eat,eat,eat....still want some of Moon's cake. That sounded to die for..Grin

JJ,thanks for the link,I've just glanced at it and I'm going to read it in a few mins.Looks very interesting,I like to learn new gardening skills whenever possible.It's true different zones and there hardiness can be confusing,at least for me anyway:},I always have to go back and refer to books or websights.
Dixie,hi,Happy New Year,what a day you've had,you certainly know you've been working.I'd say just relax now,but that's easier said than done after a day like that:}
Well,as it's 9.15 now,I'm going to sit with DH and Will,see what rubbish's on TV and as usual,probably read,after I've read link from JJ.
Goodnight both of you,and everyone else who'll be around when I've signed off.
