I may be half blind and the other half slow... but just noticed the teeny tiny "quotes" on each post in a thread. Naturally I had to click on it and was delighted.
Nice feature!

People are going to be quoting all over the place now!!

I hope so ~ LOL
I like to do that if needed and this will hopefully keep me from feeling like the Lone Ranger!

Just checking to see if it'll do the double quote...quote you and where you quoted me...
edited to say...nope

No, it doesn't support nested quotes.
Thanks Dave!!
Still, super cool Dave!!
Just curious... how long did it take us to find this handy feature?
Very cool... I noticed a few days ago the old quote html code wasn't working and figured it was just me - lol. Guess Dave had something in the works!
I actually just did it this afternoon. I uploaded the changes around 4:00pm CST.
lol - maybe it was just me then... ☺☺☺
It would be lovely if we could have that quote feature in our D-mails too ^_^
I must be in the minority who find the blue quote text distracting... I usually either use quotation marks or sometimes italicize a quoted passage instead. But I'll adjust if quote boxes become more popular. :-)
I did want to chime in and say that I hope you will not add this feature to Dmails. For the most part, there's an expectation of privacy in a Dmail exchange... sometimes, if I take a conversation to Dmail it's because I don't want to post my words publicly. A quote "button" makes it too easy to copy and quote something that was Dmailed it to you (either posting it or forwarding it to somebody else in another Dmail) without really thinking about whether or not you should check with the person before sharing around the contents of their Dmail.
If the quote button in dmail would work the same way as it does in the forums, when someone clicks it, it would start a new reply to you and put the quote in there--if they wanted to send it to someone else other than you then they'd have to copy and paste your message just the same as they would now without the quote button.
So that's how you quote. I had often wondered how to accomplish this---now I know. Thanks 1/2 and 1/2 Podster; you did good for a 1/2 (shut up Lane!)
I understand what you mean Ecrane, though the lack of this feature in D-mail wont stop someone who wants to abuse of it, copying and pasting is very easy too! :)
I think the quote feature would be more pratical if it also could be used to quote only part or a particular phrase of a post.

Easy to delete that which you don't want included.
LOL GessieViolet ~ that is 1/2 a brain here. But the credit goes to the Davester. I just was amazed to see that teeny tiny quote and when I figgered out what it did, I got curious how long I had missed seeing or using it.
I find myself using the quotes feature fairly often because I often want someone to know the specific comment I am responding to. It seems without facial expressions and voice inflections, it is easy for the typed word to be misinterpreted.
Trying that out:
successfully I might add...

That makes me think of Smileys again, lol! ;)
I know the majority in Daves is against the use of them in the forums, but I don't see there could be any objections in having the possibility of using Smileys features in D-mail ???
HEY -- I just noticed that quotes were no longer in blue text! I really like that much better. The quoted phrase is still easy to distinguish since it's offset from the rest of the post and has a "so & so said" in front of it, but it isn't visually jarring. I hope it stays like that! :-)
ecrane, thanks for explaining how it might work in Dmail... that does actually sound like it would be useful in Dmail, then, especially in a long Dmail thread where you are trying to get back to an earlier topic.
HEY -- I just noticed that quotes were no longer in blue text!
Yeah, I was playing with it a bit this morning. Your earlier comment about the blue was a good point. I think it looks much cleaner and easier on the eyes now.
I must be in the minority who find the blue quote text distracting...
Ah... i always like the blue... sorta jumps out at ya.
but the "quote" is a nice touch, as i used the quote a lot, at least now i dont have to worry about typo'ing it.
Thanks, Dave!
Now, I really love the new "quote" button! ^_^
LOL, I noticed the teeny little "Quote" on the left under each persons post earlier this afternoon and wondered what it was for ... but, with my attention span I got sidetracked even before I had a chance to check it out! ^_^
Thanks Dave, you are always making things much easier for those of us who can never remember how to do some of these things! I always have good intentions of looking up the directions, but again ... there goes my brain off to something else.
I LOVE THIS GARDEN!
I noticed the addition of the "quote" button a few days ago. It does work very well. Unfortunately, with each addition the left box gets bigger and bigger, so now each response takes up at least 10 lines no matter how short the response is.
Is there any way to make the left box smaller? I suggest removing the space between the person's info and the date. Other possiblities could be removing the spacing between the "post" and "quote" buttons, or putting the "quote" button next to the post" button instead of two lines below it. What do y'all think?
I'm not sure a few extra lines of white space bother me... but then, I'm not logging on with anything smaller than a laptop. :-)
Dave, I just used the "quote" button and noticed that there is no way to use it and still upload a photo with the post that has the quote...
Of course, I can just make another post to add an image, but I wondered if that was tweak-able. ?
Great feature Dave!! Like the omission of the blue too.
