I'm in the same boat as Lady.
Visions of flowers & veggies for 2010
Holly, do you still have writers' forum access? I've got an article on the Feb schedule on OSPs... hope I got it right, as you know I learned much of it from you! :-)
Maybe I should bump it up to an earlier date.. I figured people wouldn't be starting them until later in the month...
Shhh don't reveal any secrets from the article if you read it early!!
No I don't think I can get into it any more, I asked to be removed from the Writers list when I couldn't bring my self to publish the one story I had written. Or come up with more than a few paragraphs on any other topic. LOL
Critter you can E-Mail it to me if you would like.
Anytime in Feb is good to start them maybe even March would probably be fine, as they grow pretty fast. I do find that some of my saved potatoes are already trying to start as they are putting up small shoots. I just like to grow a lot of them to share and by starting early I can produce a lot of them by May. I even pinch back the big ones and start those, too. Plus it helps with those Feb gardening impulses. I might have some pictures you can use. D-mail me. Holly
Pretty sure these are potatoes from the Ace of Spades that Ladyg gave me. All this growth was on them when I took them out of the bags they were stored in. Some of the others are also showing a few signs of growth but nothing this big.
Holly, that does look like Ace, nice shoots!
Holly, you are really wheting my appetite for your new thread!
Holly, you are really wheting my appetite for your new thread!
And Holly is making me feel guilty, I have not done anything with my OSPs yet.
LOL
I'll get it started in a few days. I wanted to wait a bit to let them grow and take a few more shots. But I have been thinking more about it, too. Holly
Warren has a new ad up in the Classifieds for Coreopsis, Tiarellas, Yucca & Echies. His plants all come in much larger than co-op plugs and are very healthy.

Thanks Stormy...
He says the ones in the ad are plugs from Terra Nova, so I'm not sure how they're larger than Terra Nova co-op plugs, unless maybe he plans to grow them on for a while... actually, I see he says 36 of a variety, so I'm guessing that's 72 plugs per tray (up to 2 varieties per tray)... not particularly big, but better than the ones that come 120 to a tray.
Almost afraid to click on his site, as I'm sure he has lots of great Echinacea!
Critter, Write and ask him. He gets all of them from TN, but I've found his to be bigger.
I bet he grows them on for a while to ensure their survival... plugs need a little TLC after their trip, so the co-ops that double ship right away are probably sending along smaller, stressed plants. Thanks for the heads-up!
Critter, he and Ella both generally do that.
Jill,
You would cry......
End of last Summer--at my HD--when we still had 2 large tables filled with purple Cone flowers in 10" pots that were all out of bloom--Bell Nursery threw them all away......They had already reduced them by 50% and, still, they just sat there...
I got most of my seeds I now have from these. Kept dead-heading many of them then brought the seed heads home to dry.

What a shame!
Coneflowers are easy to winter sow. :-)
