What did you get....

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

You are a true romantic.Bill

Thomaston, CT

And his wife is such a pretty girl---patient, too, apparently!

North Augusta, ON

Bill...I sure hope your DW realizes just how lucky she is! My DH has never given me anything...not even a dinner out!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

can i give you her number at work? :)

If my husband got me a card, cut flowers or candy, I would roll my eyes and call him names. The card even if I liked it or would remember it in 10 years would go into the fireplace. I wouldnt remember a box of candy in 10 years or cut flowers.

Dinner out would be fine. I would rather have something that would appreciate in value. Fine china, crystal or some type of antique thing that is not gawdy to look at. I am not a material girl. The more you own the more you have to clean. Baaa

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

different strokes for different folks - ring was not gawdy at all - she gets dinner out for her birthday the end of next month with another present - probably perfume

Jewlery is not gawdy and it is needed. Perfume is fine also. Este Lauder White Linen please.

North Augusta, ON

nice!!
If that's what she likes Bill you're a good man for seeing that it happens for her.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Some men just "dont get it" There are simple things that impress a woman,Bill is going to write a handbook right Bill?

North Augusta, ON

It's a perspective thing I think. All I got for Christmas was my car insurance canceled, and I ran out of oil for the furnace. The oil company won't come out unless I have the cash ($500) so I got a couple of gas cans full of diesel from the farmer down the road to get us through.

What I really got, and most important as far as I'm concerned, is a roof over my head, food in the fridge and everybody is healthy.

I got my Mom a set of polar fleece jammies because she's always cold, got by Brother the new Rush CD he's been begging me for and DH got a couple of used X-Box games to keep him busy (hence the canceled insurance, but I can deal with that later).

I don't care that Mom and Brother didn't get me anything since they help me when needed all throughout the year (some cash here, coffee or creamer there, assorted food goods when I'm out) which is far more important than them giving me something I might not need on a pre-determined day of giving (Christmas).

Thom - have you seen or heard anything freaky yourself, as opposed to viewing or hearing later on the recordings??

Last night's episode of The Haunted was good. Family in CT with a haunted house and barn. It kills me in all these episodes that it takes so many weird and scary things to prompt the owners just to look into the house's history, let alone call someone in to investigate!

(Zone 5b)

My birthday is coming up, I need new gym shoes :)
also, I do believe my mother's house is haunted. It creeped me out the whole time growing up there.

North Augusta, ON

Has anybody ever been visited by something unusual? I was alone in the house once, sleeping, when I woke up and there was a shadow at the foot of the bed.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - more details, please. Maybe Thom can check it out!

(Zone 5b)

threegardeners there's a thread on DG somewhere about stuff like that...

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Only my MIL. ^_^

What did it look like, LA? How long did it stay?

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I had precognetive dreams.

(Zone 5b)

Victor I get that here too =0
hahaha

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

What did it foreshadow, Jo??

North Augusta, ON

It isn't scary at all like you'd think it would be. My Aunt in CA, who is very into spirits, ghosts, etc., tells me that it is deceased family members checking up on me.
Same thing as when you see that dark shadow out of the corner of your eye when you're doing something...makes you actually turn around and look it is so real.

(Zone 5b)

my mother's was flat out creepy...noises, water turning on & off, I came home to an empty house after school, the water in the bathroom was running full blast into the tub. That just happened a few months ago too.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow. In the show last night, the horses were being switched in their stalls overnight! All were securely locked.

(Zone 5b)

I would think that would freak the HORSES out lol never mind the owners.
my mother was in a car accident some years ago, we took turns staying at her house and I swore NEVER AGAIN! Now we make the grandkids stay there lol

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Victor
I honestly believed in a guide of sorts.
I began to trust the images and events. I had a lot of deja-vu experiences. Must have been the stress I was under at the time.
The episodes and dreams dissapeared gradually so now that I am a crusty old Cynic they dont come.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

the best present i got for her might be the fleece pj's from costco - she has had them on three days running :) they look nice enough to wear to the store.

Chanel #5 is what she is running out of - rotates between that, Joy, and j lo - gave her j lo in the stocking (had one stored from buy one get one free purchased a few years ago) and she wanted to exchange it :) had to come clean with my frugal ways.

no ghosts here although my mother has threatened to haunt me when her time comes

someone is moving those horses victor - do not believe it.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Lots of unexplainable stories in my family! (both living and dead! lol!)

(Zone 5b)

those ghost shows only show the minute after something happens, I bet they didn't show the horses being switched.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No - a cop stayed all night and watched from outside.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Ghost is on tv right now! How spooky is that...lol.

(Zone 5b)

lol my husband had one of those shows on last night, I fell asleep.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

i liked the movie Ghost, but not every other month.

South Hamilton, MA

Not into the ghost beliefs at all.

SIL gave use a flexible basket with garden tools (including the Horri Horri knife.) It also had a sharp hand prunner which I had asked DH for. He said that he saw it was there so got me something bigger. That turned out to be a portable DVD player. (Our TV doesn't have the port to set one up). Not really into movies etc. but we can now play the one given out at the British Iris Society convention in 2007. That has been sitting in a drawer.

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

We've heard and have seen a few things that we couldn't explain. And I do caution that I've never seen a ghost, per se, but have been witness to many things that are paranormal. At prospect place, for instance, I went my own way (we were in groups of 2-3), and was sitting on a bed that used to be the upstairs (ladies parlor) and was doing the typical ghost hunting thing (asking questions, looking around, snapping stills, etc) I just set the digital voice recorder down on the bed, and simply said, "If there is anyone here, please let me know, or let yourself be known." A few seconds later, on the tape, you heard a small child's voice yell, "HEY!" Again, I was the only person in the room. At the same time, my ankle and left wrist/arm area (that were exposed) got exceedingly cold, almost as if I dipped them into a sink full of ice. I mention this, and it's picked up on the digital audio, and then another investigator came down the steps to where I was at, and my hand went back to feeling normal.
The other thing that we had happen: Debbie, myself and another investigator were at my parents church. They have claimed that there are several ghosts/spirits that people over the years have seen and heard, and have named one active spirit, Ernie. Ernie, at the turn of the century, was one of the churches organists. Deb and the other investigator were at the back of the church near the baptismal fount (sp?) and I was sitting up at the organ, just asking questions. You hear me on their voice recorders say, "How do you turn this (expletive) on?" followed very quickly by a very angry males voice saying, "GET OUT NOW." This was all heard after we were listening to the digital audio later on. Right before we left, this was on my audio recorder and Debbies, I (being the sarcastic smarty pants I am) said, "Thanks for making yourself known to us Ernie," which was followed by a strange male voice stating, "THANKS." The 3 of us went down into the churches undercroft, and heard, at 3 different instance someone trying to "sneak" down the stairs after us...to which there was no one down there. The church lights a candle and lets it burn through the week (can't remember the religious significance of this candle...Eucharistic candle?) It winked out, and back on twice while we were there.
Again, no spirits/ghosts, but definitely several things that were/are paranormal.

I like some of these gift ideas. I used to drive my siblings nuts when I was in the Navy, and they were still in high school/middle school. I would buy a smaller present (CD player, gift cards to favorite stores, etc) and box them into a larger box, and larger box, and larger box, until they were going through several boxes to get to the actual gift. I've also been known to wrap gifts and tape with packaging/mailing tape :-) Haven't done that in awhile....

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Serves you right for cussin' in Church, Thom!

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

I know, I usually fall asleep :-)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee! We had a priest in my parish as a kid who would SCREAM every tenth word or so! Nobody slept and my mostly deaf grandfather said it was the only priest he could hear. This guy was old school and would scare the living daylights out of you, or any ghost!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Thom I also did that for my sons and his girlfriends gifts as I only gave them each 1 gift besides a $2 bag of Cadbury chocolate. The first box was to David, the next inside was to Lindsey, back to David, back to Lindsey. It was so we would have something to do!

Interesting ghost stories.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

What a trickster, Deb!

(Zone 5b)

a nice little twist on the box trick! you also reminded me I have a bag of chocolate under my tree...

North Augusta, ON

OMG!! How could you forget a box of chocolate???!
