Red-breasted Nuthatch.
Daily pix #269
chris8796 - You said, "Here's a Dove that might have over-indulged over the holidays." I'll say, what in the world have you been feeding it? :-) And that Downy looks cold to me, doesn't look to be as puffed up as some of the "Northern" birds I seen posted on here.
Burd_Fotos - As far as I can see, your Black-capped Chickadees look like my Caroline Chickadees. And those Dark-eyed Junco pics are really good. But that Red-breasted Nuthatch.is a beauty.

Love the Nuthatch Burd!
That's one fluffed up Dove Chris!
Sweet! Looks like you've got just enough snow to make everythig bright & pretty. Ours mostly melted away in the recent rain, and I miss it!
Great to see so many birds. There are about 50 or more E. Sparrows here and they keep chasing other birds away, which is why I am try to persuade them to to move somewhere else, by not keeping my feeders full of wild bird seed.
I did see a pair of Chickadees around for awhile and hope they are still near by. All of the tree and shrub fruits got frozen mid-Oct, when temp. got down to 15 degrees, so there isn't much small fruits like crabapples, etc to draw birds in. And lots of leaves are still hanging frozen to the trees.
Keep taking photos and sending them along.
Donna
Nice photos everyone...Margaret like the Osprey BIF
Donna what is and E. Sparrow?
These threads are moving too fast for me
Nice pics burn and nanny! Very cold here today with up to 50 mph wind gusts.
Hi Met, I think Donna means a (European) House Sparrow.
Yes that is what I meant House Sparrow, They are called English sparrows as were imported from England. they are a real pest, and it is legal to shoot or otherwise get rid of them, also Starlings, also imported. Both are very sharp eyed and hard to shoot as they fly at any movement.
Nice pics nanny, chris,Julie, Hack and Dave!!
Nice shots:
JulieQ - I wouldn't mind seeing a Purple Finch. it would be a Lifer for me.
chris8796 - I'm still looking for a Dark-eyed Junco. Another Lifer, if I get one.
nanny_56 - I didn't see my usual Carolina Wren today. And I usually see it. Maybe tomorrow.
I did some snapping today. For all of the following, I had my 1.4x Tamron TC behind my 70-300mm lens. All were hand held, all were able to auto-focus, if I set the lens on the "3" of the 300 marking.
I had this female Eastern Towhee hopping all around, feeding away.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. All of your pictures are so wonderful. A special shout out to
Burd on those Starlings on the previous thread.
Duc, PLEASE get better. xoxo
I was in Grass Valley, Ca. for Christmas. I managed to get a few bird pics. My sister lives on acres and there
is a lot of wildlife.
Junco. not a great photo
Light was fading when I saw this Brown-headed Cowbird. I used Picasa to lighten it up. Still not the best pic I've made, but it'll have to do.
I wonder if Elements 7 would have done any better on it. I may give it a try.
BTW, today, I ordered a Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 AF DG OS HSM APO Autofocus Lens for my Canon 40D. Several of you have one and from all the positive reviews I read on Amazon, I figured I'd give it a try. If it is as good as folks say, I may end up selling my Canon 70-300 IS USM lens. Time will tell.

claudcat, that first bird is a White-breasted Nuthatch.
That last one beats me. I'm looking forward to being told what it is, also.

Not sure what this one is either?????
I'd guess California Towhee, tho' it's not the best of pics for telling!
Resin
First bird is white breasted nuthatch
Chris, I can't believe you have the tree sparrows. I've been looking for them, and so far nothing. Might have to leave my back yard to find some.
Hack, nice to see some of the birds that are spring birds for me up here (Towhee and Robin).
SO! Today was the first of the season visit from a Northern Flicker (yellow shafted). My word, I'm not sure if it's been a while since I had seen one of these or this one is a hefty specimen, but just seemed like a HUGE bird to me.
Here it had gotten a big chunk off the suet.
