Think Spring! Seed Swap Party Feb 27

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I did just pick up a named philo there... trailing one, with Pearl in the name, have to look it up... much splashier variegation than 'Marble Queen' pothos, which I had in my hand before I spotted this one. There's one gal who knows all the names, but if she's not in... I agree, I'd like them to use cultivar tags! It is a fun place to browse, though.

And I found these frogs... they are going to Holly & Ric and are currently in the back of Terri's car. I am sure you all could see why we thought Holly & Ric absolutely had to have them.

Oh Critter, I don't know how I missed seeing those I just love them. Look at those feet intertwining. LOL She is just batting those eyes at that big handsome fellow.
I spent some time potting up a few of my house plants yesterday. I have a few more to do but then after tomorrow I will probably just have somemore from the Phila Show anyway. LOL

Critter, That is definitely Holly & Ric!! LOL, I'm cracking up over it. What a nice thing to do. You all have fun tomorrow.

Critter; What a great day the seed swap was I had a great time met wonderful people and I am looking forward to the next time everyone meets again. Sorry for not thanking you earlier but I am in the Carolina's where the weather is not much better than in the Washington area , it is cold 37 degre's this morning . One consolation no snow mountains anywhere.

If any of you get--or would like to pick up a copy of this month's Martha Stewart Living magazine--it has a nice spread of some 6 Tomato experts at a Tomato tasting, outdoor event.
Of course--then there is a full page of all the varieties that they were tasting. I thought of you, Jill, even though I had never heard of any of those tomatoes.

Also---further down in the magazine is a lovely section on "sight", "sound" and "smell" in the garden.
There was a full page of all the different Coreopsis, and there was a red one that looked just like my "Dwarf" red Coreopsid. Many of you took those seeds. IF it is the same one--it's nane is "caliente".....(that's HOT in Spanish)....

Orchid, I hope you're having a good trip despite the chilly NC weather! It was lovely to see you again... I'm glad you're back out in your garden, and I'm glad you're back at DG!

Gita, I wonder if that article was about TomatoFest? I think Bluekat has been to that event a couple of times, but so far I haven't been able to make it. I think I did snag a packet of that coreopsis, thought it would be nice out in the orchard area, especially if it will reseed. :-)

I sent off a package to LadyG this morning as well as a truly fat packet of seeds for SoulGardenLove... Julia, thank you, you did a great job rounding up a wonderful selection for her! I found some seeds in the "free to good home" basket as well as some additional ones from my stash that I thought she could use, and I counted as I stuffed her bubble envelope... altogether we had 89 packets of seed for her. I think she'll be very busy, even if she direct-sows a lot of them! LOL

I love being part of such a thoughtful, generous group of people. Thank you for the lovely seeds I brought home (despite thinking I didn't need more seeds, I still found some I couldn't resist!), and thank you for all the sharing of seeds and selves that happened at the party. Garden friends are the best!

Orchid, It was great to finally get to meet you too. We're glad to hear that your trip is going well even if the weather is not cooperating. Let's hope that when you return, most of the snow will be gone. Looking forward to more photos of your lovely gardens.

Julia did a wonderful job of putting together a cottage garden collection for SGL! She's going to jump up & down, I know it. :-)

Jill,

Whether this Coreopsis self-seeds or not---I will only know when, and IF, any of the seeds that dropped come up.
I only had this plant in my small, round bed on my front lawn--where the KK Hibiscus is in the middle of.
Picture below...If you want more seeds of this, Jill, I will be glad to mail them to you.
What I like best about this Coreopsis is that you really do not see the stems--just the red flowers. Nice filler-in.

The Tomato tasting thing was, in my observation from the article, a very "elite" get-together hosted by Amy Goldman author of: "The Heirloom Tomato: From Garden to Table" and attended by only 5 experts plus Martha, of course.
It is on page 123 of the March issue. You can just take a look and browse through this. This Magazine is sold everywhere--even HD. $4.95. Nice issue this time!

SoulGardenLove got almost 3/4 of all the seeds I brought. Julia was just picking and picking....Many of the seeds I have are very suited to a cottage garden...

"Gardening Tills the Soul"--a saying I have on a small pillow....How true--how true! All hard work aside--there is no more peaceful work I can imagine.

Gita,
The seeds you have are suited not only to a cottage garden but any other type of garden a person might dream. Because of your wonderful seeds, and more importantly, your generosity, SoulGardenLove is going to have a wonderful spring!

P.S. I love Martha

Julie--

Yes! Martha's magazine is one of the best bargains around! SO reasonable to subscribe to--or to buy at newsstands.
I LOVE the photography in this magazine--especially of all the foods.

So many enticing recipes and ideas. Now--all I need is another lifetime to try it all out!

Gita....:o)

I do like Martha's ideas - she sure knows A Good Thing when she see one.
Well except for picking stock advisors...

Heya! I just wanted to post my thanks here for all who contributed so generously to SoulGardenLove's garden replanting efforts. (She is rebuilding both house and garden after a devastating fire.) Extra thanks to Julie for putting together such a great collection for her at the swap. She *loved* the big packet of seeds we sent out.

Here's a link to a thank-you post in her thread in the cottage gardening forum: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=7641480
