Think Spring! Seed Swap Party Feb 27

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Carolyn, thanks for spotting my columbine request.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

With the swap fast approaching, let's try to keep the thread on topic from this point on please. Thanks!

Could I please have a volunteer to collect the $ for the lunch? It's really helpful if I don't have to keep track of that. All you have to do is collect the $, check off names, and give me the envelope at the end... I will take care of the bill.

If you think you might be coming, please make sure your name is on the list at the top of the thread. I'll be Dmailing everybody with my cell phone number and with any last-minute details on Friday.

Thanks!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Critter, I'll do the money thing for you.

Athens, PA

Aspen -

the digitalis seeds are all gone. Ladygardener got the last of them....another time.

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Chantell and I being there all depends on the weather & how much weather we get ^_^ Looking at the forecast I'd say more yea than nay, but....

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Thank you very much, Sally!

OK everybody -- give your money to Sally when you get there!

I'm keeping my eye on the weather, but it looks like the worst of it might miss us (both in time & distance)... hopefully it'll miss enough that travel won't be a problem for anybody.

Obviously, everybody should check on road conditions before they head out. Stay safe!

DH is going to work from home tomorrow afternoon so I can run a few party errands... I'll do my best to get over to DPF, as it's been entirely too long since I've been there and I want to check thinks out. And Terri (thank you, Terri!) is going to come over Friday afternoon to help me get things together. Yay!

Falls Church, VA(Zone 7a)

Sorry for the late message -I will be coming on Saturday. Looking forward to seeing everyone again and of course pigging out at the buffet. I don't have much in the way of seeds but I do have 2 door prizes-little shoe planters that I make. See picture for sample planters. Don't know yet which ones I'll bring.

Hi,
As you can tell, it's been a while since I've stopped in to see what is going on here. I have lots of Daylily cross seeds that I can swap. I will try my best to be there by 12:30ish.

Thanks for keeping me on your invite list. Look forward to seeing you and meeting everyone.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Yippee! Nancy, it'll be so good to see you! You know I'll be standing in line for DLs... :-)

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Bonjour Froggy! , and hi donnerville and Nancy. Great crowd we have going.

cambridge md, MD(Zone 7a)

Critterologist : My trip is postponed untill next Monday this mean I will be coming to the seed swap. I am looking forward to it. If anyone wants to share a ride with me let me know I live about a block off the beltway in College Park. I have been going frantically throught all the seeds that I gathered last year, so I will post my seed list later today . If someone is interested in sharing a ride e-mail me .

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Yay orchid-- !
who was it in Brookville that needed a ride~ tho I don't really know where that is. so I knew it was not near me.
I'm coming from upper - central Anne Arundel Co (me, Gita, Catbird) and have one more seat in the van~~~~~

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Hooray! Were you able to get in touch with the other DGer who was originally going to ride with you, Orchid?

It is really blowing out there, but I've only seen a few flurries. Hopefully it'll blow through before tomorrow, without messing up anybody's travel! I don't think the whole MA region will be hit in any case, so as long as the roads are halfway reasonable around here I have no plans to cancel or postpone the party (in case anybody was wondering, LOL).

^_^

Brunswick, MD(Zone 6b)

Critter, did the Italian seed order come in? If so, I owe you 20 bucks tomorrow, right?

Marshall, VA(Zone 7b)

Lordy, it's 3:45 PM and I'm still packaging seeds! I have listed the packets of seeds, ready to go, on the seed swap site. I'll be adding to the list this evening. Should anyone want some of these seeds, D-mail me and I'll set it aside for you!

Yes, Miata, I've got your seeds... sorry, thought I'd mentioned it a couple weeks back (just before the Big Snow). They're in your goodie bag.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

MAN!!!!
I thought I was done a couple of days ago! Nada!!!!

I am still streamlining everything--as I like to be totally FREE of the actual act of "swapping" while i am at the Swap.
Sounds contradictory--but I prefer it that way. I am super organized--so this works best for me--but in the long run--I still get involved with all the "swapping" with other people...and meeting them and getting acquainted.

There will be a box with envelopes--each containing seed packets of the plant ID on the envelope. Easy to see!
Each envelope will have pictures (and a short description of the plant on the outside) so you can see what it looks like.
This is a "Help Yourself" to what you want set-up. Look through them all--take what you want!

Of course--I will be there for any questions--that I will gladly answer.

Here's the way I like to do it!

Sorry I won't be able to be there tomorrow but I will be thinking of all of you. Hope there is a good turn out. Is anybody else in our region planning one for a later time of the year? I keep hearing about a great one out in Burtonsville..when is that one held?

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Critter I have your Pinetree order to bring along.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

LOL... I done clean forgot about that! How much do I owe you?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

We only got the barest dusting of snow flurries last night, and I'm hoping the snow won't amount to much for anybody else planning to come either.

*fingers crossed* for safe travels, and I can't wait to see everybody!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

THIS JUST IN

Dutch Plant Farms will be giving us a 15% discount on all non-sale items today!!!

This does include statuary, supplies, etc., not just plants... and they have a lot of neat stuff.

Tell them you are with Dave's Garden and ask for the discount when you check out

(Terri, bring your receipt for that peacock, maybe they'll give you some $ back.)

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

Jill,
I'll be running late--got 2 pups coming into rescue, I pick them up at noon in Hagerstown. As soon as they are settled, I will be there with my seeds!

See you soon.

Wow!

That was just a spectacularly fun afternoon! I got to reconnect with some old friends and make some new ones... Thanks to all who came and participated!

I have no idea how many packets of seed changed hands today, but it was an awful lot! I didn't intend to add to my stash today, but I still came away with a bunch of thing I just couldn't resist. LOL We had a lot of fun with the gift table this year; I think everybody found a little something to enjoy on it!

Thank you!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

THANK YOU, Jill! You always go all out to make this a fun day! And you put so much time and effort and money into making this a successful Party. Kudos!!!!!

You also think of everything........a sign of an organized person....takes one to know one.....:o)

I second that Jill - excellent as always - looking forward to next swap - thanks to everyone!

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 6b)

Sorry I had to miss the swap today; but there's always another one, right? How many showed up? Will you be posting any pictures and a summary of it? My cousin's Memorial Service was real nice..was good to see a lot of relatives I hadn't seen in a few years. I'm anxious to hear all about the swap.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

What a fun day Thank You Critter and your helpers.

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

I couldn't sleep, so I've been up since the wee hours (03:30). I went thru my seeds from yesterday, and really got a stash! Thanks all. I had a great time, and enjoyed seeing everyone. Will start some winter sowing today. Terri

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Thanks Jill! You were an outstanding organizer and host/MC. We had a great time and are looking forward to next year.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Critter, Your and Terri's efforts really made for a wonderful and fun party. It was really nice to see old friends and great to make some new ones.

It seemed that everyone went out of their way to bring wonderful gifts, great seed and cutting selections and plenty of good advice.

Chef Lin is a great venu for a seed swap. Great food and friendly help. The directions were great and easy to follow.

Pippi, Our next swaps will be for plants.

Carlisle, PA(Zone 6b)

It was wonderful to hug & see you all again & meet new faces & new handles. I wish I had felt better but I was just about done getting over a bug & I was so medicated & doped up I couldn't tell my right from my left. Thank Heavens Ric was driving. Had I driven, I might have ended up in Maine! Thanks everybody for the great seeds you brought. Hopefully next year, I will be in tip top shape & have more seeds to share. As always, Chef Lin's food is wonderful and Jill, you overdid yourself but you always do a nice job. Your baby Joyanna is a blessing and will turn out to be a lovely young lady someday. Take care & I'll try to keep up with the mid Atlantic group more than before. Judy Showers (Buttoneer)

Thank you so much for hosting such a wonderful event! I really enjoyed myself; meeting so many new friends, receiving great advice on new gardens to visit and of course, collecting new seeds to plant.

Thank you again, it was nice to meet everyone.

I had a fantastic time! The food was amazing, I pigged out on shrimp-yummy! Was great meeting new people and reconnecting with older ones.
Jill, you did a wonderful job setting it all up, thank you. Joyanna lived up to her name too!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I'm glad it worked out so well! I loved seeing everybody, and I know I didn't get to chat & visit with everybody I wanted to -- so you'll all just have to come to another DG event, LOL.

3rd year in a row for this swap... starting to sound like an annual event, isn't it? ;-)

Brunswick, MD(Zone 6b)

Great time and great job again Critter! Loved the door prize questions. Wish I could have chatted with everybody more. Anyone else besides Becky, Chantell and me go to Dutch Plant Farm?

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Yes, Ric and I stopped and we had Buttoneer with us. Got a bag of HollyTone and something for the pests as well as a variegated rubber plant, Rabbits Foot Fern and so other variegated fern that I need IDed. I'll post pics.
Buttoneer also got a few things.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Nice that some were able to take advantage of the discount that Critter wrangled for us. Last year I bought a novel looking tropical there from the #2 table, that has grown great. Its a Ctenanthe. Related to Maranta, Prayer plant. 'Supposed' to NEED humidity but has been fine this winter, even grown, and I'm hoping I can root some cuttings or divide it,
DPF is very nice but I have other places here that tempt me every day of the week, and we decided to head home after Chef Lin. Robin knows---Homestead Gardens and Main's Greenhouse. The former beyond huge, the latter small with some really neat uncommon items last time I went (wildflowers, fabulous elephant ears...).

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

One thing that I don't like at DPF is that many of their plants aren't marked with the names. Not even common names and twice now when I was there they couldn't give me a name of the plant. They had several Philo there was a Prince of Orange, Moonlight and the dark colored one that I can't remember the name of. They were all sitting together with a sign that said something generic like Philodendron Cultivators. That was it and when asked they couldn't name the dark one either. I bet you guys would just love Ashcombes. It is just off Rt 15 North of Dillsburg. Maybe some afternoon I could meet you for an afternoon of shopping .
