Morning, ooohhh so much I would like to respond to, running a bit late this am-going to work, 1st time in 2 weeks so out of schedule...
On the good side I'll have lots of time to gab today so will check in when I arrive...
Can you tell me why it is that in 2 weeks I'm up before 5 and today, the day I have to go to work I could have snuggled in and stayed in bed all morning????
The Orillia hospital called me yesterday morning, I've an appt. for Jan 20th for test on this 'ticker'..Greg my eldest who lives in town kept calling to make sure I was resting...Kyle called to see if he could come over and help me do something...so it's nice to know someone would be around should I need them...
gab later
What's happening in your neighborhood?
Betty, so nice to see your post, albeit a hurried one :-)
I fer sure hear ya on the 'sleep in factor' when going back to work after time off. I am positive it happens to us all.
Good luck with you appt later this month.
Carol .. If I have Lorna's heavy wheelchair with me, and can't find close parking, I do deposit her at the front doors. But, if she just uses her walker .. I will park and run into the hospital and bring out one of their 'transport chairs' .. kind of like a much lighter wchair .. she can't wheel it herself, I push it .. have to say the condition of the prads and walk ways at our ONLY acute care hospital is atrocious .. feel bad for anyone having to navigate along with a walker or crutches.
Nice to hear all went well at the Open House Ann .. have still to make one of these 'ice candles' ..
I am finding that ONE benefit of my 'forgetfullness' this past fall is paying off. I had moved some solar lights from along the back sidewalk to the top of the chainlink fence, I had every intention of gathering them up and putting them away, but, Lorna ran into her wallop of trouble and the lights remained . WELL .. they still glow as dusk falls and, they are the first thing to greet me when I look out the window in the morning .. like 12 tall shining soldiers ^_^
Not 100% sure what's on todays agenda .. Smokey is still not eating, can't seem to tantalize him with anything.
I do know the VON nurse is due for Lorna's dressing change .. early I hope.
The Xmas trees are coming down today (that should take all of 5 minutes) .. LOVE those fiber optic trees!!
Take care everyone
~M~
Quiet days .. hope everyone is well.
Off to the vet with Smokey today, he is still not eating, but is spunky. Here's hoping it's nothing major. Mind you .. the visit itself is $70. + and a senior blood screen (last year) was worth $90. Not saying he isn't worth the cost, but, I often wonder how some folks can afford the ever increasing vet costs. Have looked into 'Pet Insurance' but have found the services covered are simply not sufficient for the premium paid.
Still a bit cool here .. -8F ..I am hearing a few Provinces are going back into the 'DEEP FREEZE'
Take care
~M~
Went to the Dr yesterday.I've had a terrible cough for some time.He said I have Bronchial pneumonia.I don't feel too bad as long as I just sit or lay down but get short of breath when I exert myself. He gave me broad spectrum antibiotic which I will take for 5 days.JOY
Ohhh Joy, that doesn't sound good..best you put your feet up and rest..is this something you get on an ongoing basis????
"M" waiting to hear on how Smokey is doing..
Well it's cold but no snow..can handle that...
I've been busy/busy purging myself of things that I keep for what purpose...I should do it then have someone come in and go through it again..lol..after hearing my SIL's going on about all that mom has and their working to clean and yet she wants to keep everything thought I'd better organize myself...bought 2 large cabinets, already full..going to Canadian Tire at lunch to see the cabinet that is on sale, need a smaller unit for my woodworking room...
Was busy up till now at work, now I'll be able to get my crochet out..need 5 more rows of grannie squares to complete my 'around the world' quilt design like the afghan I made for Darlene
ooops telephone ringing
Joy Hope you are feeling better soon - dont fool around with penumonia!
Guess others have the reorg bug?
Heres my newly organized Xmas storage and other things cupboard The stuff bagged on the top shelf are oversized angels that wont fit in boxes. Someday I will measure them and see what I can find.
Not much room for the other things any more!

And then this!
The large shelf section used to be loaded with paperbacks - the shelves are only deep enough to hold them. Now it is partly craft and partly sewing stuff . The smaller unit next holds music, games and puzzles. Now the music (piano and organ) has been carried around for more years than I should admit- dates from the 50's! - so truly I can get rid of it. Some of the really ld song books I had went to Lougheed House.
For many years, when I still lived in an apartment I used to buy a jig saw puzzle every Xmas and then work them all during the winter - had not touched them for years, some very difficult. I gave some away last year although I cant remember where they went!
Same with the games - have not used them for years, time to pass them along to somebody elses family!

WOW, lot's of organization going on..wonder why January always brings organizing to mind..new year, new month, new start?
You are well on your way Carol...I can appreciate the amount of energy it's taking but what a feeling when you open the doors and areas and everything doesn't come tumbling down ..lol..
It's lunch so off I go to Canadian Tire to see what the smaller shelf unit looks like that I want for woodworking room..wish me luck
Carol .. I applaud you on your resourcefullness with your re organizing. I, too, have the 'bug' but have yet to give in to it as the task at hand seems so daunting to me .. I definitely will go to the dollar store first and buy some containers to store all the flotsam and jetsom I have bobbling around in the 2 closets I HAVE to do.
Joy .. be wise and be restful .. the antibiotic will work better, and, lots of rest does a body nothing but GOOD!! :-)
Feel better soon.
Well .. took Smokey in for his appt. Why is it the vets are SO nice .. there are 6 in this clinic .. have dealt with 5 of them and can honestly say they are SO dang charismatic !!! Anyway .. Smokey got the full body examination, along with the EVER popular rectal temp .. physically he is well on the outside .. he has lost a pound since August .. he's 9.4lbs now .. so .. left him for bloodwork and xrays .. picked him up at 1230 .. $400. !!!!!!!!!!!! I about passed out ON the spot !!!!
Am awaiting the call from the vet at the end of the day with the results. Brought him home .. he trotted out of the carrier .. walked up to Lilly who was SO excited to see him, whacked her on the snout with his paw .. jumped up to his feeding station and ATE ~~~~~ ARGggggggggggggggggggggggHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!
Whatcha gonna do ?? Gotta laugh I guess .. .. hope the news is good later in the day ..
Keep on re organizing ladies .. the pictures prove how nice it looks after ^_^
~M~
You have me soooo laughing "M"..no wonder the vets are wonderful, with the fees they get why not be happy...all kidding aside let's hope you've good news by the end of the day..maybe it's the after Christmas blues that is causing the problem...
Canadian tire does have a good deal until Friday on a cupboard that is 52" high and 24 " wide...forgot the measurement, wrote it down and left it on the counter...24" JUST might fit..crossing my fingers it does...
Was also at Dollarama but the line up would have made me late had I picked up totes so will go Friday aft. after work..
Tomorrow evening have a floorman coming to give me ideas for the kitchen and the little cafe area..am excited about so have to head home quick/quick..only way he won't come is if we have a blizzard..let's hope NOT!
I think I have to blame Cdn Tire for the organising issue - the Xmas stuff all disappeared and all the shelves are full of a variety of storage containers= great selection but you better know what size your sheles are before you buy anything!
Actually I have bought over the past few years bought a lot of plastic shoe boxes = they fit nicely on my shallow craft shelves, can see whats inside and stack them 3 high! That is where I am heading now, might need to go out and buy more !
You are so right about vet fees M. In October I took my cat Chelsea in, she seemed very ill - 6 hours and 900 dollars later I had a little box of ashes! The blood panel alone was over 200.00 - way more than I pay for my dogs.
I'll say like "M" you wonder what people who cannot afford to pay such vet bills do for their animals...
Carol, I had TimBrr mart cut me more shelves for the cabinets I bought over the holidays, so much wasted space having only 4..girls were at the house painting and said they'd do some organizing in the craft room today..I would imagine by the time I get home there won't be an inch not filled...lol
Looks great Betty
Did they label everything so you can find it? LOL!
Carol .. am sending you this link to look at from our daily paper today ...
http://www.chroniclejournal.com/stories_local.php?id=234883
This is one of my cousins dogs .. As well .. Betty .. your sister might be interested in the article as she may recognize the young handler.
The vet called re Smokey .. ALL blood work and Xrays were good .. has one test result due in this morning .. so .. it seems the little minx just wanted to get out of the house for a change of scenery !! Animals .. whatcha gonna do !!!
Off and running here the next 2 mornings for early appts with Lorna ..
Enjoy your day everyone
~M~
Actually .. this link shows the pic .. duh !!! ( I hope)
:-)

"M" know she'll be interested so I'll link her to the site...thanks...young lady for such an honor.. wonderful news about Smokey, next time a change of scenery is needed head for a hotel for a few days...be cheaper..lol
Checking in, making sure you are all ok...
Handsome dog M.
Just fine here Betty. Pretty cold this morning in fact my dog walker cancelled but it did warm up enough to walk the dogs this afternoon .Had to go to doctors appointment anyway so since I was bundled up......... Just needed a prescription renewal and my annual mammogram req. Usually get that done before Xmas but forgot about it this year.
I am having some elective surgery in a couple of weeks and getting it done out in Canmore - faster that way - and they just phoned me to say I have to be there at 6AM!
Hope the weather is OK - a neighbor is driving me out. We will have to leave about 430!
HAhahahhahahh .. er right Betty .. taking him to a hotel would have been MUCH cheaper !!!! LoL
Been a quiet day here .. had some correspondence to get to .. the price of stamps is atrocious ... especially to the US
Have to be at the hosp by 7am tomorrow .. Lorna has an appt .
Off to have supper .. good luck Carol !!
~M~
Carol, glad someone will be going with you...are you concerned about it?
had my mammogram done the week before Christmas...when she asked how long since my last one I quickly replied 'oh a few years ago' she went and checked and it had been almost a decade...yikes..reminded me of the importance...
"M" it's not the price of the stamps that gets me but the service..mailed out a few kits to the girls who saw me post instructions for the thread/scrap bag holder and some wanted the instructions for the afghan that looks like the around the world quilt done in crochet, mailed over a week ago and they've still not gotten them..no reason to be stopped at customs so I don't know why, maybe because of the holidays...
Canadian Tire didn't let me down..picked up another cabinet like the other 2 just a bit smaller..going to organize my tools..lol..
Mark, guy who will do my kitchen and French cafe room just left, gave him a tour as I've known him since he was just young, couldn't believe the tools I have..he said I'd make some man a good wife..lol..only if he can cook!
He'll be here Monday he says to do the floor..I'm excited about that...
Well, seeing as I was up at 4:30am I'm thinking it's bedtime, so bath here I come..any of you know of how to put me back on schedule..I've my days/nights mixed up...need help...
These early morning are tough, but, hopefully they will be ending soon ..
Death in the family, 26 year old second cousin (through marriage). Tamara was 26, had fought liver cancer for 3 years.
Her sister is married to Eric Staal (a fairly well known hockey player) .. at any rate .. having only met Tamara MAYBE 3 times, I can't imagine how difficult it is for the families involved. She truly was 'one of a kind'.
We've dipped back into the deep freeze .. just for a few days though :-)
Betty .. good luck with the flooring and OH YES, Canada Post is certainly living up to the descriptor .. 'SNAIL MAIL' !!
Off n running
~M~
Best of luck "M" with Lorna..nothing like getting outside in brisk cold weather..with wind chill -22 this a.m.
Tamara was so young...how devastating for the family, will keep them in my prayers...wonder if in our day they'll ever find a cure for cancer..guess if they do there will be another disease to take it's place..
Drive safe..
Don't read this if it may be depressing, but I have to tell someone & my husband just shuts this kind of thing out......
Sitting here thinking about my sister - she has lung cancer, and is scheduled for her third surgery on Jan 18th...... she's had it for 11 years. Started out being one of only 5 people in Canada to have it, so no meds available. Got them through the states, for $2k per month. No one would pay for it through any Health programs cuz it wasn't recognized in Canada. She's off that med now, and taking regular ones.
Sorry to be a "downer" today - I'm worried about her - she's so tired and this will take alot out of her, I know. She's 67, and lives a healthy lifestyle, but at this point she can't walk on a windy day, and can't walk and talk at the same time because of her decreased lung power from the other 2 operations.
talk to you later.
Susan
Oh Susan hugs to you, no wonder you are worried..67 in this day and age is still so very young...what I don't understand is when the quality of life is all but over, even if meds are tested to meet our requirements isn't it still providing the patient agrees worth taking and monitoring for further use...
Don't understand the process at hall...
Prayers for you and yours!
thank you, Betty
Carol and Susan
Thinking of you both as health is a topic close to my heart!!
Carol have a safe drive and I think early is better than rush hour!
Susan may all your worry be for naught!
Ann
Susan .. all the best with regards to your sister .. I do have faith in the Canadian Health system, albeit it is, at times, pretty convoluted.
Tamara, the young woman who just died, had to leave ON for treatment in Edmonton .. she had a few bumpy roads to travel, but, in the end all worked out well .. like your sister, Tam's type of cancer was rare .. and she did end up in the US for treatment.
Kindest thoughts for all going through some rather stressy times ..
~M~
Thanks Ann
Well I was kind of hoping for 9-10 am since that would mean my neighbor would not have to get up so early Figured the cases that are day surgery would be first but apparently not. Of course that would make it that much longer with no food or drink!
Just keeping fingers crossed that the weather will be OK since if it is bad we will probably cancel.
Temps today are above freezing. Loading up the car this afternoon with dog beds and other things that need to go out to the Rescue agility trial this weekend.
Visitor Tugs mom returns tomorrow morning- It will be a busy morning - drive out to trial site, unload dog beds, help set up, go to airport with Tug to pick up Brenda then back to the trial to help at the table. A friend in Lethbridge who has been looking after 2 of her dogs is in the trial and will bring them with her so it will be a grand reunion - she has been away a month. She will stay here overnight and leave for home on Sunday picking up the 4th dog in Canmore as she passes thru!
We are ready to get back to normal in this house!
Here's Tug. He is a sweetie!
Oh goodness, what a photo..Tug must be enjoying winter!!! Better frame that one..
"M" my stay in the hospital last weekend made me realize just how lucky we are..wasn't in the waiting room much more than 5 minutes when the rushed me in, had doctor check me over few minutes later, meds taken and wound for sound with all those wires bet within 1/2 hr.
Hospital was and still is closed re Norwalk virus, nurses were brought in from out of town because most of hospital staff were off ill...and yet, by 2am a room was found for me...the great part when checking out is you simply sign and off you go, no additional cost..so yes, we are indeed lucky!
Susan, all the best for your sister. I hope her surgery doesn't take too much out of her and she's quick to mend.
Carol, I hope your procedure is beneficial and you recover quick as well.
~M~, I hope those early morning visits are done on good roads, with good results.
Betty, you best not be pushing yourself...
Ann's and echoes and the rest, I hope you're all in good health.
It's wet, and windy here, typical January weather. It's done nothing to improve my mood. I've just set up one of those Day-Light lights for SAD, hoping that it'll give me a pick me up.
Linda
Linda
In reading your SAD light news wondered how well it would work for Grow light?
Maybe you could smell the soil and watch plants grow at the same time of getting all the "good" light? Oh, yes, also have Cooper sit next to you at the same time, that is my perscription for you.
Ann
Ann, the thought of sitting next to growing plants, smelling the earth and having that darn Cooper leaning against me, put a smile on my face. Plants and fur babies, good therapy by themselves. Thanks.
Thoughts and hugs being sent out to Carol and Susan who need them at this time. I guess we should never take relatively good health for granted and be thankful for every good day we have.
Have been out, recording for YouTube, some songs with the Raging Grannies. And then did an errand copying some music for the librarian of the Ottawa Symphony and stopped by a flooring store from which I brought home a stack of vinyl tile samples. Need a new floor in my kitchen and sheet flooring is not a good option because of the space.
Ann
I guess I'm not the only one on the sick list.I went to the Dr on Tuesday with a very bad cough and found I had Bronchial Pneumonia .He gave me a broad. spectrum antibiotic I am starting to feel more like myself. My oldest daughter bought groceries fo me and thi is what she wrote to her sister in Florida"
Here is the news:
1. Grammie is awesome . I got her grocs. for her tonite and the list was written in the order of the store aisles...and was all very nutritious, unusual, and delicious. One Smart Momma! She is also feeling better. "I couldn't get to sleep thats why I am ip at this hour .Goodnite all JOY
My roses bloomed overnight !!! LOL .... of course I'm kidding .. right now my roses bushes are but wee 'stumplettes' hiding under a cover of snow. The furnace and woodstove are BOTH on .. needless to say that means it's mighty chilly out ..
Hope everyone who is under the weather perks up and feels better.
Have a funeral to attend today .. and some sundry things to do following that .. am going to HAVE to get my leotards out I guess .. either that or the wind will certainly make short work of me ..
Ann .. your comment re cherishing your health rings so true .. I look at Lorna everyday and think how quickly her life changed.
Take care all, and, enjoy your day
~M~
Oh Joy, isn't that a lovely post..glad you are feeling better..takes some time to get back to normal I would imagine with having pneumonia..you are staying out of the cold I hope!!!
"M" and all, life is short, one never knows what the day will bring..we have no control, but I guess our part in it is to stay happy, eat well, exercise and befriend others...live our lives to the fullest so we'll not have regrets...my heart goes out to those you encounter who are sooo bitter, anti-friendliness, finding the worse in others..negative people, actual harmful to be around, wonder what kind of legacy they leave?
But that's not us right? lol
I've been nauseated all night so got up, finished my afghan, been into Walmart already, more wool to do another for Suzanne (SIL) who'se birthday is on the 31st so I best get at it and also a visit to Home Depot, Barb (DG member) husband Norm sent me instructions on how to build a quilt ladder, got all the supplies and home by 8:10am..
TimBrr Mart delivering flooring supplies today so have to be home until they are delivered so now I've much to keep me busy..
Linda, you'll have to update us if you think the SAD light helps..
Ann, can't wait for you to post link to Youtube..isn't it fantastic to be part of such an adventure..
Betty - I've sent it to you on Dmail but I'd be more comfortable sending it by regular email. If others want the link to the Raging Grannies' songs, please send me a Dmail with your email address.
Ann
