We managed to get the Christmas pyramid we bought in Germany onto yet another flight carry-on though it exceeded all allowed dimensions. Took some fast talking and I heard some muttering on the part of the crew. The fact that we got in on carry-on coming back from Germany - even on a Dash 8, played an important part in the check-in agent letting us take it to the gate.

The afghan which I finished up for Leila. It was mostly sewed together when we went to BC, but not completely and it had hundreds of loose ends to tie in and the border to crochet.

Baby Leila is gorgeous. That picture reminds me of me shovelling in my Christmas Dinner, LOL. The Christmas Pyramid is fabulous; such a lovely piece of art. You did a wondeful job on the afghan, Ann. It will be a cherished keepsake, I'm sure.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Wonderful pics Ann .. love 'cherishables' .. no doubt lovely little Leila has 2 wonderful ones now ..

Saddened to hear about the stabbing of the police officer in Ottawa .. that paired with the other high profile events of the day .. most especially the attempted airline explosion with its resultant domino effects at airports across the country have most assuredly given me pause for thought .. and, I would imagine, anyone who travels by any means.

It is COLD here -27C .. and .. it's the first day Lorna HAS to go out to a clinic that does NOT have a wheelchair we can use .. ergo .. we use hers and THAT is difficult on a warmer day .. it's heavy !!!!! Her brand new one is due for delivery in early January .. it'll be 5 pounds lighter ..

Best get a shuffle on ..

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Cold here too and I'm smiling. Have a major open house on Sunday and I need my screened porch as a freezer for a couple of days.

Yes - the stabbing of the local police officer seems to have been a random thing - he/she (they aren't saying who yet) wasn't involved with the stabber, just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

We are grateful that we flew on Boxing Day before all the security measures got put into place. I knitted my way across the continent but likely wouldn't be able to take it on now.

I'd saw we were cold here too, but I'd risk being snickered at.
Overcast, 4*C with a damp wind. Walked the dog, now about to make pie dough for turkey pie.
We're hosting a party here tomorrow, 10 coming for games and dinner. We're making Pavlova for desert, I'm drooling over it already!! It's one of my all time favourite deserts, that and creme caramel.

I was saddened to hear about the police officer murdered today as well.
I know the Dad of the most recent soldier killed. So sad.

Linda and Ann, It's that 7degrees of separation that we all have and don't know till something pops into our world from theirs. I am humbled by the folks who spend their lives protecting ours.

Lovely Baby, Family and Pet(family) photos.

We have done the nice weather and are going back to -20's for New Years so our outside sledding will be curtailed depending on the wind. Our days are getting longer by 4 minutes each day so soon spring will be here. Yippie.

Theres a small farm down the road from us, they have sheep. Yesterday we saw the first lamb of the season. Daffodils are up anywhere from 1" to 4", depending where they are. I'm looking forward to Spring, it's probably my favourite season.

Morning all, brrrr is it cold, in fact at 10am yesterday was going shopping with friend Rita and we couldn't open the back doors, they were frozen..much the same today..I'd still rather have cold than snow...

We travelle dto Meaford, about 90 mile one way trip, passed collingwood ski hills, although at that point we had blizzard conditions many were enjoying skiing...

OMG what deal they had at the Warehouse....
I bought what I didn't need, an 8 piece nativity scene..most are at least 12" high and are dressed in cloth..original cost 249.99, reduced to $140 and then reduced to clear (about 9 sets in all they had to choose from) for $31. and change..knew I didn't need them but couldn't resist the sale, if nothing else somebody will get a nice nativity scene for Christmas...and when I got to the counter it was further reduced by 25%...

Tragic about the police officer...Rita who was with me called to talk to her hubby, he's an OPP officer and was on duty...said she's terrified these days having him go out to work..one never knows...

Ann I just love that afghan..wow, that's sooo much work..am sure it will be cherished...

Just sent out a pattern for this afghan, to a few DG friends, made it and gave it to a friend, now 1/2 way through the one for ME....if you'd like the pattern I could send one..

Linda, how blessed you are to be seeing signs of spring already..I'm thrilled having winter start late and knowing there is only 3 months left before I get to enjoy my gardens...

Best I get busy, want to head out this morning and look at different types of flooring for my kitchen, check out zinc's/counter top and taps, visit MIL/SIL and be home by noon...so can't tally...

Hope you enjoy your day...

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

SPRING .. DAFFODILS .. be still my heart Linda :-) I am sitting in the glow of the FULL BLUE MOON right now that is lighting up the MOUNDS of snow outside .. sparkels like diamonds . 2 full moons in one month will not occur again until 2012 ..
Sheesh talk about a soldier having connections far and wide .. am related, through marriage, to a 'Nuttall' family .. it has been explained to me several times, but, each and everytime I get lost LoL too many ships arriving from England it seems . Both deaths tragic. Have a nephew with OPP and another a Colonel in the Canadian Armed Forces .. worrisome to say the least.

LINDA.. hokey doodle .. good luck with the Pavlova .. here's a link for anyone who was sorta stumped on that one
http://www.joyofbaking.com/Pavlova.html are you going to MAKE it yourself .. if so .. good luck .. seems it;d be kinda tricky re the meringue .. sure sounds good though !!!

Quite the deal on the Nativity scene Betty .. very pretty :-)

Using 2 of my '365 day stuck on the patio tables' as stand in freezers here Ann .. works well !! Good luck with your party on the weekend.

Heading into town later .. appts each day this week EXCEPT Friday ..

Take care all

Edited to correct bad grammer that would make my HS English teacher turn over in her grave.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

That's weird! I edited some grammar in my post and, at least on my screen, all those following it disappeared. Didn't show that it was edited either except for my note and when editing, it showed my whole post in quotes.

LOVE the Nativity set, Betty. What a Deal!!!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Betty at that price I think I would have bought every nativity set they had in the store!
It is lovely

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - I was wondering about that - did you buy just one, or the whole lot of them?

brrrrrrrrr it's cold here -17 with windchill of -25!!
Linda - could you send some daffodil weather here, please?

~Susan~

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Wow, Betty. That sure was a heck of a deal on the nativity set.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

It started snowing lightly last evening and has continued off and all all day. Not much but enough apparently to make the streets pretty slippery. My housecleaner arrived unexpectedly this morning ( I thought she was not coming until next week) and said driving was dicey on some streets.
So I have stayed home all day other than walking the dogs instead of going out to do some errands. Maybe tomorrow!

Victoria Harbour, ON

LOL...don't tempt me girls..should have purchased more than one set!

Just got off the telephone, old family friend called...he worked with Roger all our married life..was with us New Year's Eve and New Year's Day (the day Roger passed on)..amazing how he always knows I could use a call..we gab, remember Roger, fun times and at the end of our conversation I feel so much better...

Dropped into Roger's mom this aft. - hmmm she had pants to be hemmed, maybe that's why she was pleasant..not nice but probably hit it on the nail...hard time for her as well so I make the effort...

Then hit every building supply store in town..think I found the vanity zinc/countertop (built into one) - need to do some measuring..also brought home a 16" tile to see if it's what I can live with before having it put down..much the same color scheme as the present flooring, we'll see..decisions/decisions...I'd rather someone come and say, 'this is what you get'..lol...

Cold today but not as bad as yesterday..great weather really for everyone travelling...imagine, already tomorrow is New Year's Eve day...do you all go out? what do you have planned? Me, I try to keep extremely busy so I don't think or feel, can almost tell you each New Year/New Year's Eve what projects I've undertaken...lol..soon the holidays will be over and life can get back to normal...that's nice in itself isn't it? we'll all be wishing for spring before you know it...planning our gardens...

Do enjoy your evening...

What do you think of this tile? too busy?

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Betty looks lovely! Where is it going?
Is that grey or blue in it?

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

I like the tile .. sure will not show messes .. that MIGHT be a drawback .. if you're like me .. I tend to NOT see a spill until I step in it or Lilly decides to wash up for me LoL

Those are my favorite colors!
Here are my stairs which are a similar tile, maybe a tiny bit lighter.
Is it slate?

Thumbnail by annabell52

Then I used the same tile under my cabnets and put one behind my stove in the middle of my backsplash to tie in the colors. How fun it is to pick colors.

I love that tile - it's one I would choose!

We have accepted an invite to a friend's for New Year's.Eve.
Bob's not sure he wants to be driving after midnight, though.
Kind of a toss-up.......

Morning all...

Had a bit of snow last night, just enough to need shovelling..wouldn't you know..oh well, with being off this week I can use the excersize..hate to get on the scales....lost 20 lbs. these past months and just know I've put some back on...

Annabell omg the stairs are to die for..are they slippery?

My tile will replace the flooring you see under it in the kitchen cupboards are maroon antiqued with a touch of baby blue and those colors are in the tile, faint but there..

Susan, get that hubby of yours out for New Years' Eve...you deserve to party up..

I've an appt. to get my hair done at 8:30, don't know why as I'll be in bed by 8 or 9 tonight..as Recreation co-ordinator for the township for all those years, Roger and I put on the New Year's Eve dances at the facility in Port Severn, although we were exhausted we enjoyed the evening as well...

Know that at midnight Jeff will call to say Happy New Year mom as will Greg, always a race to see who get's his call in..New Years is Greg's birthday...although they call for that purpose I know it's to say 'we haven't forgotten dad's death today and are you ok'...one thing the Lord sure did leave me with 2 wonderful sons when he took Roger...enough of that right?

When I was at MIL yesterday she had slacks she got for Christmas that needed shortening so best go get my coffee and do them..going to town anyway so might as well drop them off...

Happy New Year's Eve...

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Betty .. today and tomorrow will be tough for you, don't downplay the significance of the date as it is one that set a pivotal point in your life as well as your sons. It's healthy to remember, smile AND cry .. wouldn't be human if you didn't.

Snowed here as well overnight and we have to leave for the hospital at 7:30am for an appt which will, in all likelihood, be a 3 hour wait. If the Orthopedic surgeon is abrupt again this time with Lorna, I shall bop him on his wee bean !!! LOTS to be said for PROPER bedside manner and compassion towards others.

Best go out and see if I have to shovel a bit ...

HAPPY NEW YEARS EVE DAY EVERYONE !!!

Stairs are NOT slippery that is why I did my front entrance and stairs to my Living room in the slate.
It was expensive so it was my little touch of gold during my reno. LOL

Happy New Year Everyone.
Ann

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Betty if the slate is rough it is not slippery.

I have a small bath and my front entrance in slate. Heres a pic of the bath. There are actually some fossils in one of the tiles .

However what I wanted to recommend is that you put heat underneath. Slate takes on the temp of the room around it. I have a small heating 'pad' in the bathroom - I think it was only 3x3- we did not need to cover the whole floor just in front of the toilet and sink and it is wonderful. Wish I could have done same in front hall but no electrical access there. And I am sorry I did not do it under the vinyl in my kitchen just along the front of the cupboards.

(((((((((Betty))))))))))) Marilyn's so right - you need to do all you can to remember Roger, as he was/is an important part of your life, who you are and what he stood for in everyone's life that he touched and was a part of. Jeff & Greg know that, and you do, too. While you know not to let it overwhelm you, you absolutely Should share his memory. Bless you for all you are, dear lady.
Thank you for bringing his memory to us, who never knew him, because it brings you closer to us.
At some point we either have gone through what you have, or will, so don't be afraid to talk to us about your own experience and Roger.
((((((((((Betty))))))))))) another hug, just because I wanna!! ^_^

Carol - that sounds so cozy - wish I'd done that in my bathroom in Winnipeg, when we lived there. We replaced the floor with tile, too.

I love tile & hardwood - it's so elegant.

Happy New Year dear friends...hope you all enjoyed your New Year's Eve!!!

Last night I remembered as a child most going outside at the strike of midnight and setting off guns..can you imagine that happening in this day and age?

It's snowing and I've shovelling to do but have to wait till daybreak...

The boys called just after the midnight chime as well as my girlfriend in Ireland...once the calls came in I was able to snuggle in and have a good night's rest..well not quite ALL night..here I am playing and making myself a sewing area downstairs in the little area you enter before the craft room, here where I have my computer set up..will make things easier when I need tables for cutting...

Do you all have a family day planned ...rest is nice as well...

Thank you for the kind thoughts, they are appreciated more than you know...

Enjoy your day, will drop in later...

Quiet New Years so far .. Lorna had kind of a bad docs appt on Thursday .. she now has 10+ stitches in the small NON healing area on her stump .. long story not pretty, but, we press on into the new year .. fingers crossed it'll be a MUCH better year.

Bitterly cold here .. the white Snow Shoe Hare was hopping a mile a minute along the fence line .. godbless his/her little heart .. tried to see if something was chasing it .. didn't see anything about ..

Have cooked a ham with pineapple rings and cloves in the slow cooker .. am trustung it will be OK .. also made homemade dinner rolls, first time ever .. have a couple of friends dropping by ..

Hope everyone in the forum has a SPLENDIFEROUS '2010' ^_^

Cold here, didnt even walk the dogs this morning- was supposed to warm up close to )C by afternoon but that never happened - yet! So they just run out into the yard and do their business and run back in again. Howquickly they run back in tells me it wold be silly to go for a walk!
But the sky is blue and the sun s shining.
My neighbor Marie brought over a container of her split pea and ham soup. Probably save it for lunch tomorrow.
Tug's 'mum' called this morning from Ontario - she will be flying back next Saturday - I have an order to bring Tug to the airport with me.
