ebay fraud

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

Hi blomma,

There were many people trying two years ago to get Ebay to remove pictures and they were given the run around! There was no link back then for this purpose. Guess all the threats of lawsuits made them do something. Back then all Ebay would do was say they would talk to the seller and nothing would happen.

Hi Molly,
That is odd. The link is not new. I can't remember when I saved it but it was at least a few years ago. I found the link in a sellers listing under a warning not to copy her/his photos. It was meant to give info on infringement rights.

Maybe Ebay just didn't want to share that info? Lots of major daylily hybridizers were complaining cause the seller stole their pictures and changed the names of the plants to made up names. He also stole a photo of an unregistered seedling and gave it a fake name. No one knows what he actually sold his customers.

MollyD

Molly, that is pretty low to do. I think that these sellers that sell plants and are not honest in their selling are not gardeners. They just want the money. I have noticed also that many sellers have no clue about the plant they are trying to sell, yet many claim that it is theirs. If it is theirs, the information would be correct.

Unfortunately with today's economy there is bound to be much more scams on Ebay. There is one selling irises with stolen photos. She is discussed in the iris forum. How do these people live with themselves I'll never know.

Molly, I'm one of those who bought those daylillies, and had an e-mail conversation with the hybridizer whose unregistered seedling photo was stolen. He contacted me to warn me, but it was too late. Some of those photos were so very beautiful -- the auctions were so tempting. One really has to do a little research when buying such plants on eBay.

Pinetop I am so sorry you were robbed. At least you were able to learn that this had happened instead of waiting a few years for the plant to bloom and then having it be wrong. I would urge you to use the Lily Auction at www.daylily.com if you want to buy daylilies at auction. Mike Longo who runs it prides himself on protecting his customers from con artist and thieves. If a problem should arise with any plant (or just the transaction) bought through the LA Mike would go to bat for you right away.

Blomma I doubt they've got a conscience to trouble them when they try to cheat the rest of us. They're counting on the time it takes for plants to bloom before we know they have cheated us.

MollyD

Pinetop,
I am also sorry you got took. You are allowed to name that seller here so the rest of us will know who to stay away from. A link to his store or listing would be great. This is what we do at the Iris forum. Unfortunately, like Daylilies, there are also fraudulant Iris sellers with stolen photos, including phtotos from DG.

I ONLY buy from people I know from either here or other garden groups I belong to. It is not worth the loss of money or heartach to get junk. I paid over $100.00 for a brug once, it came with a very bad virus. The seller did offer to replace it with another cutting from the same plant, but it would more then likely be sick too.

I stick with those I know.We have plenty of very good sellers who post here regularly to choose from.
There are also now at least two good sellers in Canada with some increadable selections.

theraglady, what are the rules for getting plants from Canada.

You have to have proper leagl paperwork to get tem into the US from Canada. You would need to have a greenhouse, and keep them there for two years before you can move the plants closer then 10 feet from any other plants. You would have an inspector come from time to time to check to make sure the plants are healthy and that you are abbiding by the rules.

It is a lot of work and money to get to the stage where you can share the plants.

I know a few people who have gotten plants this way from Europe and Canada, I need to get in touch with them to see if they would do it again.

Postage on cuttings from Europe and Canada is also very pricey.

Thank you for the information, think I will stick to the USA *LOL*

Watertown, NY

Did you find something there you can't get in the US. Postage to and from Canada is very expensive not to mention that most of the brugs there are more money then here in the US.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

No not really I was going to look there for the brug I told you I was looking for, I will keep looking here and Google *S*

Hey, 7servant7 is now a prefered seller on ebay, go figure.

MollyD1953, thanks for the sympathy and the Daylily link. I will check it out. Later that season I did get some of the most beautiful daylily plants (Canadian Border Patrol) I had ever seen, which bloomed the same year, beautifully, from another eBay seller, so I have had some very nice experiences on eBay as well. Just a matter of doing the research, I guess.

blomma, the eBay seller name the fraudulent daylilies were sold under was "soap_and_candles," but I was told by a helpful daylily hybridizer, who had some photos stolen, that the guy also sold under the moniker "coolgreenery". No doubt there are other names by now -- this all happened February of last year.

PinetopPlanter, Thank you for posting the names of the faudulent DL seller. Eventhought he may sell under different names, it is a warning to others reading this thread.

I am very distressed to hear that Willie is a fraud. I know he was hit hard by Hurricane Katrina, but that's not excuse to be lying and cheating people. How sad that the plant world has people who will do this.
