Merry Christmas and Thanks to all

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

I just wanted to say that I hope everyone is having a great holiday season, and that I hope you have a very Merry Christmas! HOHOHO!!
I also want to say thank you to all the generous people on this forum, for sharing, your brugs, and your knowledge. I started out this past growing season, as a brug newbie, with only one NOID. Now, with all the sharing that others have done, either for postage, or as swaps, I have more than I care to admit too..lol..Brug people are soo generous! I can hardly wait til Summer to see these beauties bloom.

Hi Charleen, how's it going? No, I haven't told him, but I will. I should e-mail him and tell him to come here and see his pic..lol.He would get a kick out of it.

Sometimes before I wiggle the mouse he pops
up with all my critters. I love it. He makes me smile.
Robert got me a Bromaliad for my Christmas, it is very pretty pink one.
Now, isn't this beautiful? i love it.

It is! I wanted a smaller one. Guess where i got it??/ Lowes, my favorite store. They had some new shipments come in for Spring. Oh, gir, I wanted one of each. I think DH likes them too. He loves plants, he just doesn't get as excited as I do.

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

I love lowe's.Wish we had one closer.Sounds funny to hear you say that they got new shipments for Spring. It will probably be April before our stores get Spring shipments.

I went to a Wal-mart today and was just sick at what i saw. They were receiving live "tropical Plants" in and had several plants back there that was already suffering from Frost bite. it was Disgusting. I got out of there , Someone should be made responsible for the damage. The employees are just doing what they are told, but something needs to be done.

I must say that this year, our Walmart did a good job, of caring for the plants that they had, which is unusual. I just hate it when they have plants dying from lack of care.Makes me want to grab them all and take them home with me.
How are your cuttings doing Charleen? Most of mine are growing soo quickly. I have lost a few, but mostly skinny green ones. I hate it, when I lose one!
Dee

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

I think the greener the citting, the more it would stand a change of shrivelling. I have several that didm just that. Basicially I think they are looking pretty good. Have to go thruthem and pick out the ones that look good and pullout the Dead looking ones. I did put some in an Aquarium and I CAN see roots. No wonder, Elizabeth got excited, I did too. See the roots?

I do see the roots. That is neat! Everything is looking good!! My seedlings are growing so quickly. I'll try to post a pic, tomorrow.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

looking good there RRM.. I have leaves growing on alot of my cuttings, seedlings just still growing, been baking cookies and making candies for party at work tommorrow. whew! I made up 16 baskets of goodies for the guys at my workplace.
Havn't been to lowes since fall. I did get a nice red and white mixed christmas cactus from my boss.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Oh, girl, you need to go there. they had some beautiful ones.
Come on down, I take you to Macon and show you where they are...lol
Glad you got the Christmas cactus, they are just beautiful.

Kerkdriel, Netherlands

charleen your cuttings are doing great!!! I also see the roots! Great.

Happy Hollidays to all of you too!!!

Unfortunatly I am ill again. I got a very big cold. I wish it was summer again! It froze long enough now here! LOL.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

I hope that you get much better, Jori.
I don't like the cold weather. I am ready for Spring.

Kerkdriel, Netherlands

Me too Charleen. Can't hardly wait!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Poor Jori, please get well fast... I too am ready for Spring already!

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Hope you are feeling better soon, Jori. I have a bug again, too.I am sooo ready for Spring, also. I ordered my wave petunia seeds the other day. I grow them every year. I just love wave petunias!
Dee

Kerkdriel, Netherlands

Me too Dee, but I still have to order them! I usually order them during these holidays! I normally save a lot of them by making cuttings. But this year they are froze thanks to the powerfailure we had here. I am still thinking if I should say this to the insurance of the powercompany here. A lot is dead....

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

It would not hurt to tell the insurance company, they could
reimbruse you on some of the plants. That would be great,
if they did.

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Hope everyone had a great Christmas!
Jori,I took in all of my supertunias and cut them back and put them in the basement with the geraniums.I thought that there might be a chance of wintering them over, since they are perennials in zones 10 and 11. If they don't make it, I will replace those next year with starter plants, since those are only grown from cuttings and not seed. I just don't have room under the lights this year for petunia cuttings. I love supertunias for the pots and grew 5 different colors last year. I grow the waves more as a groundcover. Last year I grew flag mix which is red, white and dark purple(blue???). This year I ordered Shock wave buzz mix(shades of pink, and white), and shock wave denim. I will probably use them as a groundcover under the brugs.

Hey, nothing from Elizabeth yet?? Durn. Got me a new little Gh at Lowes.
Got the last one they had. Put it in living room and took that coffee table I was using out.
How Wonderful. Made the room look larger but I am always amazed at all the clutter I have to move
to get it set up. I love it.

Charleen you got a great husband! Mine wouldn't alowe it inside the house! And I don't think I would like it either. I need everything tidy and in order or I go crazy and I make a even bigger mesh of it. Thankfully I have a greenhouse. I hope to build a insulated room onto the house one day where I can put my plants in. With big windows for sunlight. And where it doesn't freeze.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Thanks. Yes, Jori, he is wonderful, Sometimes. Men are like Children, they have good days and Bad days.
He carried this in and the Coffee table out. Yes, he is very good fellow. All I had to do was Put it all back together after first
moving everything so he would have room. I had plants sitting everywhere. This also puts more light in that room. I love it.
Wish I were a neater person. But I guess I'll just have to be me. This is much better.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

love it Charlene!

Kerkdriel, Netherlands

Charleen but that is my problem too. I am also not a neat person. So if I don't keep it neat I make an absolutely mess of it and that grows worse and worse and then it takes a lot of time for me to clean everything. I am realy chaotic and I don't know where to start then and I start at 10 different things and don't finish one! I know that for myself. I allow myself to put everything I sow in front of the window in february or so. Not earlier. I have some plants in my husbands office but he doesn't use that much often so he doesn't mind.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Thank you, Debra. It will be covered in plants before long, I'm sure.
Jori, That's what happened yesterday. I am still changing locastions to get the short one to where I will not forget them. I am so forgetful. I know I don't keep things dust free, I would rather be in the soil puttering around. How are your plants doing since the Freeze. Have you figure out which ones may have made it? Spring is only Three month or so away. We will be o.k.

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Very nice, Charleen.
Dee

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Hi! Dee. How are you doing?? You should see the leave on my Brugs.
They are telling me Spring is not far ahead...☺
Got some seed I have to see if they will grow Have a feeling they won't-too old. Maple seed.
Hope I got some cming up outside in pots, know I got some Zelkova (what ever those are) I'm thinking they are like an Elm tree.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Happy New Years Girls.
Where ever you are.
Miss not hearing from you
Charleen.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Happy New Year to all of us here at DG. Miss you all, I have been working in the basement garden..

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

It is beautiful as ever, Debra. Maybe even greener.

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Debra, I wouldn't leave that basement. I'd have a daybed, coffee pot, and tv, set up down there, and be in hog heaven all winter. It's 11 here today, and I am about to go stir crazy.Wish I could twitch my nose and it would be the end of March.
Hey, Charleen, how's it going? I've been sick or busy...lol...every since before Christmas. Hopefully, I'm back to posting for a while!
Dee

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Good, I hope you are better. Got lonesome here.
Debra has her own little Paradise there in her basment. Doesn't she???
I love it.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

It is 14 degrees here today.. the bird bath is frozen solid!

Kerkdriel, Netherlands

Debra, you have a great indoor garden!!!! Looks wonderful! It is freezing here also for a few days. And it is even going to be much colder than it is already. brrrr.

Mulberry, FL

Don't feel bad its going to 30 tonight and hold it for hours and i am in Fla. So much for sunny florida lol It doesn't last long just enough to make you go thru the motions

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

If you are able to go thru any motions. I lock up when I am cold. the older I get te worse I guess. Think of the poor plants that are going to freeze. So sad. We got 30 right now. supposed to drop to the teens.

Mulberry, FL

Mine aren't going to freeze I put up 2 green houses with heat had one up already full of plumeria and the other has everything else. I grow alot of tropical fruits vines you name it its in there. I know no one wants to do it in the cold but we have to do what we have to do. I hate to see anything die for no reason

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Dana, I like your thinking. If I had the money for a green house, I wouldn't have a vegetable garden out back that is for sure.
Charlene, at the slight backside of 60 here, I feel like I should be 90 when I am cold.
I have been taking inventory of "lost" brug cuttings.
Naughty Nick, Wild Thing, dream cycle, to name the first three. *sniff*
I put the old dirt in a tub from those pots and took it outside to freeeze off any fungus and bugs. Been harvesting snow when it is easy enough to get without freezing my fingerz off.
