The Tufted Titmouse has also been eating the seeds I have been putting up at the brush pile.

The Northern Mockingbird still thinks he is in charge and just watches all the action!

There are more White-throated Sparrows than I have seen in previous years.

Nanny, I feel so sorry for your little birds. Both pictures sure show how cold and nasty it is there. Stay warm and safe.
Hack, that term "sunny California" doesn't mean it's actually warm all year. We've been in the 20's and 30's the past 4 days.
Sacar, your bb's and wp are just plain beautiful!! Hope you stay warm and safe too.
Pelle, excellent capture of the ss! Those little guys sure are brave. I guess they think they're safe with all the vines around them.
Rose, I'm drooling over your beautiful cardinals. Love all the others too. That Harris' is really interesting. Too bad they won't come west for a visit. What a beautiful photo the Blue Jay too! By the way, I asked for just a 400mm lens and got the same reaction!! I thought if I'd been good, santa would send one to me-HA! LOL

Beautiful shots Rose! I'm glad the Harris Sparrow is still there.

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

sacarvounis - nice capture of the bluebirds and Hairy WP. I don't get any of those WP's. Sure looks cold there.

pelletory - no one ever said that Titmice and Chickadees weren't daring - but teasing a hawk may have been a little reckless.

Mrs_Ed - thanks for the link, that tells a lot!

dellrose - nice pics you made. If all my birds were gone and I only had one hanging around, it would be a Northern Cardinal - got them everywhere.

ducbucln - I didn't know it got that cold over there. In fact, right now it may be colder there than here in Ga.

I looked outside and right now I eat up with House Sparrows. They are at a feeder on the side of my wheelchair ramp. There's a lot of bird activity out by my yard feeders and I'll ease out there later, hum maybe not - Good Lord its 50 degrees outside, this good ole boy, red-neck birder is staying inside and gonna make another pot of coffee.

Here's one of my House Sparrow gals at one of my porch feeders. I inside shooting out through the glass of the door. I didn't do a Hack job (enlarge within the photo) on this one, it was close to me.

Now let me tell you, I'm sitting behind a door, shooting through the glass. If you look hard you can see the open blinds in the image. 'm thinking maybe this guy is trying to figure out what I am.

But I wonder, do birds like this male House Sparrow (eyes on the sides of their head) see an object better when looking dead-on or when looking at it from the side?

Hack

Edited to fix some stupid spelling errors - I have to slow down.

Nice ones Hack! My guess would be looking from the side.

From down the shore Monday. Male American Wigeon on the right and what might be a juvenile or female A. Wigeon on the left. I'm almost clueless on ducks. Need to start studying!

Hack I think our House Sparrows have eyes in their backside!!

Duc...Santa is still laughing!

The sunlight is so nice today so I did some shooting through the kitchen window. The Starlings are such pretty birds...but such oinkers!

Oh...nice one Pelle!

Same with the Red-winged Blackbirds!

The smaller birds really have to fight for their food. Here is a sweet female Purple Finch waiting in the tree for the big birds to leave.

Great shots Rose! Love the Starling pic!

I think my female Purple Finch left, I haven't seen her lately. Who could blame her with the Hawk activity.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thanks Pelle...we have several of the Purple Finch but they are very camera shy and all the Blackbirds don't help!

The Bluebirds were here earlier and posed nicely.

Hack, I think our birds are smarter than we think. Your sparrows are so cute!
Pelle, gorgeous photo of the wigeons-wow!
Rose, I'd want to frame that Starling!! Great job with the red wing and sparrow too! Your little bluebirds are so crystal sharp-wonderful job on them!!
Bsharf, what a beautiful shot of that hawk. Nice job!!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thanks Duc!

Bsharf...beautiful Hawk!

Another window shot of a male Purple Finch a little bit ago.

Gorgeous Hawk shot bsharf!

Wonderful pictures Rose!

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

pelletory - I think you have a male and a female American Wideon. Go to
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wigeon
and look at the Am Wigeons, they look like the ones you photoed.
Oh, and seeing best from the side makes sense to me.

dellrose - you said you thought your House Sparrows have eyes in their backside!! Once my wife and I, and our two sons (when they were real young) were driving to Florida. As brothers will do, they were passing licks in the backseat. My youngest is Tim. I was driving and at one point my wife, without turning around, said, "Tim! If you mess with Robby one more time, daddy is stopping this car!" Robby asked, "Mama how did you know?" and my wife said "I got eyes in the back of my head." The next thing I knew young Tim had leaned forward, was parting his mother's hair on the back of her head and - asked her "Where?". Now, is that gullible or not.
Oh and Tim graduates from Columbus State University this month with a BA in Business, bless his heart.

bsharf - oh, wow, your hawk is super. I've had one that's been teasing me, I never have my camera, when it appears - but one day . . . . .

That is funny Hack...I have 3 younger brothers and I can certainly relate!! Congrats on Tim graduating...you must me very proud, and should be!

Here is a not too great shot of an American Kestrel, the smallest Falcon in North America. They are so beautiful and have been trying to get a good shot for 2 years!!

Dellrose, great looking birds on your farm.
Wow that's a nice shot of the RS Hawk.
Very nice everyone.

I manage to get a few shots of the Ring-necked Pheasant, I have been seeing some, when I went to visit my Sons out in Moncton, but was never able to get something worthwhile. There were 3 males and one female.
One of the handsome male.

2DCOUSINDAVE Your pictures are stunning! May I ask which make and model camera you are using?

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Nice Robin Claudcat. Some do spend the winter with us. In the middle of a winter storm, last year, I saw one in the tree behind my house. They feed on berries and crabapples here. I feed them some grapes last year. And they loved them.

Welcome to the friendliest forum, claudcat.

I'm just being plain mean posting this shot of Silver Gulls and Feral Pigeons at the beach yesterday.

I finally took some time to check out everyones photos. Afterall, this thread is getting long too. LOL
I have to say a majority of the pictures are better then so-called professional photos. So many, hard to pick a fav.
I love the Flicker. I used to live in Humboldt County in N.Ca. and I had so many Flickers. I miss them. In fact,
I just plain had more birds!!

Love this forum.
