Proposal New Forum: Adeniums

Mountlake Terrace, WA(Zone 8a)

We come from here (which started in the Caucidiforms forum: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1059989/

Hello, I'm here, but with little or no comment tonight. ??

Dandridge, TN(Zone 6a)

I'd like to see one!

Sun Lakes, AZ(Zone 9b)

If Dave takes a look at the posts in the Caudiciforms forum, he can see how it is being dominated by Adeniums. If the Adeniums had a separate forum, it would help spotlight the other lesser known caudiciforms and I think people would be more encouraged to submit posts and read through the posts. Plowing through so much on adeniums can be discouraging, not to mention time consuming, if they are not your "favorite flavor" so to speak!

Pendleton, OR

I would also like to see one.

I think it would be very educational, and would increase interest in these unusual plants. When I visit friends who have tons of houseplants, they always seem to have the same-old-same-old plants.

I am just learning about these, and am hooked!

Cheers,

Melissa

I too am interested in these type plants, not always the same Desert Rose.

Please Dave *S*

African Violet threads dominate the AV & Gesneriads forum... I don't think it discourages people from posting about "other" gessies, and it's usually pretty easy to find the non-AV threads from their subject lines. While I could make an argument for splitting off discussion of AV's, I'm not sure a forum on non-AV gessies would get enough traffic to keep it interesting... maybe that's not the case for "other" caduciforms.

Maybe Caudiciforms could go in with the cactus and succulents, and Adeniums could take over the present forum.

Sometimes all the DR talk does discourage me from visiting the forum. I mean, I like them, but surely there are other plants in this category out there?

Sun Lakes, AZ(Zone 9b)

I think lakesidecallas has a good idea! Make the current "Caudiciforms" forum "Adeniums" and make "Cacti & Succulents" forum "Cacti, Caudiciforms, Succulents." I have seen postings in the C&S forum on caudiciforms. They would fit nicely there.

I'll second Nancy's suggestion.

I'm only just beginning to see Desert Roses in the nurseries here, in the last six months or so. No other caudex forming plants, although there are a lot of them!

I think that making Adeniums from the Caudeciform group would be a loss. And to join Caudeciforms joined with the Cacti and Succulent groups would be silly. Caudiciforms are plants including bulb forming plants and semi-tuberous plants, some of which are succulent and others are not. The 3 forums should be seperate, as they are seperate plants. Adeniums are just the most prized and hybridized of the caucidiforms and taking over the group. Which is why I started the idea.

I'm not sure why the name of the C&S group has to change. I definitely am not an expert on caudiforms (I have 2 or 3), but are they not succulents? If so, why would the C&S name have to change? I would certainly encourage any caudiform growers to join the C&S forum, since we do get posts from folks that have questions about caudiforms.

Sharon

OK, I see your points.

Sun Lakes, AZ(Zone 9b)

The reason I suggested adding the word "Caudiciforms" to the Cacti & Succulents is just to help people know where to post about them. I believe they are actually succulents for the most part. I think a separate category for the Caudiciforms would be fine too if that makes more sense.

How about to just tack Caudiciforms onto the end, Cacti & Succulents & Caudiciforms, instead of changing the name so much.

And the Desert Rose forum could be just Desert Roses

Lima, OH

I still don't see the point when they are already labled by DG as Cacti & succlulents in the PF's. "Cacti and Succulents" covers such a wide range of plant types already, it doesn't seem reasonable to add more to the name when that group is already included.

I have a Cyphostemma juttae that I have never looked up in the PF's. Just for yucks I looked it up, and sure enough, It is listed in the PF's as being in the Cactus and Succulent group here at DG.

I would be thrilled to have more postings on caudiciforms to the C&S forum. I think they are fascinating plants.....something else to become addicted to!

Cyphostemma juttae is indeed a succulent cacudiciform plant and the caudiciform group knew a good bit about them. Its a wonderful thing to have individual groups on these plants as collectors are the only ones that get excited about them.
I used to find myself humbled by the cacudiciform group, but no longer as its all Adenium flowers.

Golly, Wally, this is getting complicated and confusing! Am I alone?

Hey, how about a forum titled "Weirdo Plants"?

Mountlake Terrace, WA(Zone 8a)

That could be cool.

tervherd, I need to get addicted to something else, been addicted to Brugs too long *LOL*
