LOL, Thanks, Susie. I guess there are mental blocks against pruning, sort of like how my brain couldn't process geometry! But, I do think it would be a worthwhile course. Gosh, Susie, it's a shame you missed our seed swap on Saturday. It wouldn't have been a very far drive for you.

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Maybe next time Stormy! I looked it up and I don't think It would have been far. We go to an Antique Tractor show up in that area and it takes about an hour or so.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Susie, I've added you to my mailing list for swaps. Be sure to check your Dmail from time to time.

Here's another item for fun, Critter!!

Right now---orchid blooms and history and culture exhibit going on at the U.S. Botanic Gardens on Independence Avenue, SW. (Federal Center Metro) Free

I was there in December and saw a few in bloom at that time. Lovely colors!! Visitors should be able to see much more in bloom now through March!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

That does sound nice. I'd love to go to that. I think it would be the day after we go to the Phila Show so I doubt I would make it but it does sound good. Holly

MD Home and Garden Show in Timonium, March 6-7 and 12-14

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Sally!

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Critter. Does anyone have any good events in PA or DE that should be included?

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Best I can do with DE is this nearby
Native Plant sale at Adkins Arboretum in May
http://www.adkinsarboretum.org/programs_events/plant_sales.html

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

We have a couple of local shows Hbg and York but I don't think anyone would want to travel to see them.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

If you know about them, Holly might as well mention them. You never know who's lurking.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Pennsylvania Garden Expo Harrisburg, Pa.
Friday Feb 26th thru Sunday Feb 28th
http://www.pagardenexpo.org/
When this show first opened several years ago I was moderately impressed and thought it was a pretty nice show for a first show but I expected it to get better each year which it didn't. The largest and nicest displays were from landscapers that mostly were promoting hard-scape and were a bit lite on the plant material. There was a really beautiful pond display. There weren't a lot of vendors and about half of them didn't have anything to do with gardening. Then last year they didn't open at all and now this year it is run by a different promoter so I don't really know what it might be like.

Mid-Atlantic Garden Show York, Pa.
March 4th thru 7th
http://www.midatlanticgardenshow.com/
A nice little show the largest displays aren't real big but they do have some nice plant material, displays from local garden clubs and interesting vendors that are mostly plant related.
I wouldn't travel very far to see either of these shows but if you live in the area they would make a nice evening or afternoon activity.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Those may be very appealing to local people, or anyone visiting the area on those dates. Your comments are quite helpful too. Thanks, Holly.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Thanks! I've added those to our growing list... :-)

Leesburg is such a neat place and we've always heard this is an incredible festival! Unfortunately we've never been able to go because we're always in Alexandria that weekend :( Which reminds me, Critter I need to post the dates of the plant sales for everyone. There are several in the DC area which are close for some of you!

Just realized I miised their native plant sale, it was today :-(

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 6b)

Jill, don't you need to add the seed swap May 8th at Henrietta's in Burtonsville? Maybe double check with her on date and time.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Pippi, I would add it if I knew about it... do you have a link to a thread here for it? Burtonsville, MD? Did I miss a post on this thread? Who is Henrietta? (I'm not good at remembering "real" names.)

Also, the last I knew, jfleming was planning to host a spring plant swap (for the more southern Mid-Atlantic folks) and Becky was going to give her a hand... but as far as I know we don't yet have a date for that, maybe mid-May?

Greenthumb, thanks for those links! I'll get them added to the top of the thread. :-)

Cherry Blossoms on the Tidal Basin

Forecast for later this week is great too! sunny 70's on Thursday
We attempted to go as few years go and accidentally went on the day of the biggest parades and street festival and a Saturday or Sunday--it was beyond mobbed, and we didn't know where to go....but what little we saw were beautiful. This Friday being Good Friday, it may be crowded too.
