OK, Stupid question time

Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

How do I get into my journal to put some stuff in there? I've got the Plant database figured out, but I just sit on my page and don't go anywhere when I try to get started.

By the way, I still go to GW, but I never signed on - it just seemed like a lot of hard work and hassle and Trudi, with whom I have traded and gotten some lovely seeds, annoys me. Come on, call yourself a "New gardener" and then tell us all how to do it??

I seem to be in the spouting off mood today. I'll try to behave hence forward.

Okay, Kathleen - this is my last post of the day, and I've been in a spouting off mood, too, so I'll throw in my two cents' worth (grin!!!)

Here's how to get your journal started: Start by adding one or more categories. There are many ways to do this - you're welcome to take a look at my journal or any of the other "public" journals for ideas.

I made my categories things like flowers, vegetables, herbs, etc. Then I used "manage categories" to set up sub-categories (perennials, annuals, bulbs, etc.) You can drill down further (still using my example, under perennials I have early-blooming, mid-season, and late-blooming.) Again, this is a personal journal so look around for other ideas...there are a lot of good journals set up.

Once you've set up even one category, you can start adding plants. And if you just want to set up a few (or one) category/ies, you can always go back in later and tweak your journal with subcategories, and move things around into more specific groups.

Status is another important component to your journal - I set mine up to help me keep straight what I've started from seed, from cuttings, and seeds that still need to be started. But again, others have used status differently, and you'd probably be best served to take a look around before deciding on how to do yours.

Hope this helps, and now I'm outta here - gotta get my family fed and ready for mid-week services at church. As Tigger says, "TTFN" (ta ta for now!!!!)

ROFL - Not at you Kathleen, but at myself. I also had a go at this and thought I was doing pretty well - but I'm not....LOL Made a complete mess of it! Go to my journal and see the chaos. Haven't time to mess with it right now but will do some more 'trial and error'.

GoVols:- I read what you are saying and your pages are great - but you will see many posts from me declaring my ineptitude at computer stuff - maybe it comes easier to younger folk!

Louisa - LOL I haven't even dared try yet!!!!!!
I do very well with what I know, and after awhile, this will come, but right now>>>>>>>>>>>>
maybe later, when I'm feeling calm and collected and recovered from grocery shopping and granddaughter sitting and, well, you get the picture!

I feel the same way Kathleen. Too much going on right now -I had a meeting the builder this morning and I definitely need to calm down.......LOL

Don't feel so all alone-I'm still trying to figure out how to get involved in the chats they have here! I posted seeds to trade, now it's time to explore this site and meet the challenge! Maybe its something in the name- I'm a Kathleen too but go by "Kat":)

Hi Kat - I think I must have a lazy mind when it comes to computers, or that I just have so much going on right now that I can't spare the time to sort out my journal and stuff. I thought I was doing really well with the subjects I entered but when I wanted to enter under the subjects re progress I would be making on my new garden, I just could not do it!! OK I give up - once I move into our house I will never have the time to figure it out :-)

Hey Kat,
I'm Grandma Kat. My mother called me Kathy, my brothers called me K and my grandchildren call me G. Kat. I'm also Kath, Kathleen and hey you!

I've about given up on the journal for now. We're having some family traumas and I don't need to think any harder than I have to. It will come, I'm sure. Maybe in the spring.

Kathleen, traumas come and go. I have had my fair share and it passed, your's will too. Bless you!
