And Dischidia ruscifolia's in bud and bloom along with the mealies I had to remove when I saw this pic!!

ooh, very nice boojum! Please remember to post a photo when those buds open. I have a small plant and I look forward to the day I spot a peduncle or two and buds!

Here's a blurry pic so you can see how tiny these flowers are and why I'm always happy that I didn't miss them.

How cool. My D. ruscifolia bloomed a couple of months ago ... such cute little blooms! I better check mine for mealies. We've had a couple of nights in the mid 30's so my Florida room is cram packed with plants that I really need to water and inspect for pests! I had a mild problem with aphids on the hoyas this fall.

Carol, outstanding photos of those very exotic looking Hoyas - I can only dream about seeing such things in real life. Boojum, nice photo of the Dischidia; I've turned into a real fan of the plant, and good luck on getting rid of the mealies. I can honestly say (knock on wood) that I have never seen a mealie other than in a photo. I have always been paranoid about insects on my plants. In the past if I even suspected an infestation, I threw out the plant. Now that I apply BATTS annually the only thing I have seen is an occasional Spider Mite, which I immediately knock out with neem sprays.

Thanks for all the BD wishes! These pics are beautiful. Happy New Year everyone. I gotta go check all mine and see if anything is even trying to sprout a peduncle.

What is BATTS? I use Bayer Rose and Flower spray.

Waterville, VT(Zone 4b)

BATS is Bayer Advanced Tree and Shrub. It is mixed at a rate of one ounce per gallon of water and is poured into the soil not sprayed on. It is a systemic insecticide that is drawn up into the plant tissues so when a mealie bites the plant it dies. It does not get drawn up into the peduncle so those areas still may have to be treated with alcohol. It is an off label use of the product, but it really works well. I have now used it for three years and have not found a mealie.

Cool, Doug!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Actually the Rose and Flower spray is the same mixed main ingredient applied foliarly, but it does not last as long as the 'drench' does. I let my plants sit IN the water I have poured thru containing the BATS and often I put fertilizer in it too so the plant gets a good drenching.

You know...we take acronyms for granted...thinking everyone knows what we are talking about. I once suggested BATS to someone asking me what to do about mealies and they wrote back that bats might be hard to find and would ladybugs work just as well? I simply assumed.... Poor woman thinking about bats flying around her house!!!! I felt so badly!

LOL Carol!

ROFL! I thought I was pretty naive but that really makes me grin!
