Here is my Big Mac, which has decided to bloom yet again for me. If you look closely you can see snow through the window.

There are more buds forming. This plant just keeps on giving. It flowered in October, November, December, and by the looks of all the new buds forming will bloom in January as well.

Here is H. heuschkeliana pink and yellow, which looks like a candy plant. I can't really get a great picture of it, but it smells and looks delicious.

Good growing Doug! Your plants sure look happy inside looking out at that frosty weather!

My DS-70 is still hanging out by the pool, but it seems as if Fall is just now arriving in Florida! The Hickory trees are now totally bare but the one Maple still has it's foliage ... it's a bit slow to drop it's leaves this year. We've had temp's in the mid 80's the past two days and it's supposed to be 83º again tomorrow before cooling down a bit again. My H. australis is still full of blooms and DS-70 has a few as well.

This is a picture of my EA H. australis, taken day before yesterday

Doug...great growing on the mac!!!! Are you treating it like anyother hoya and watering it during the winter...or growing it dry. I can't get mine to bloom!!!!

Beautiful plants and flowers, Doug!

Great photos everyone.

Doug, I want your secret too. How do you get the Mac to flower?
I can't wait for mine to bloom one of these days.

Thanks everyone for your compliments! I really think that the Big Mac's flowering is probably mostly attributable to the high quality plant light that gives it exactly 12 hours of Light, and 12 hours of Dark. I have also taken Carol's advice and since it started flowering in October, I try to never let it dry out. I am really putting the water to it - soaking it twice a week. Ordinarily in the winter I don't think that would be the thing to do, but with the artificial light, it doesn't know it is winter.

Beautiful australis Lin, wish it would grow for me, but alas it won't.

Pdoyle, The lobbi came as one of those really late arriving DL cuttings from this year. I ordered the orange, because I already had the red one. To tell you the truth, I can barely discern a difference in the color. I don't know if there has been a mistake in labeling or the two varieties are almost the same. Anyhow, if I had to recommend a really easy Hoya for people who live in my neck of the woods it would be H. lobbi. It grows like a weed, propagates easily, is almost always in flower, and is just plain hardy - no special treatment.

Can anyone tell me that if some of the leaves fall off on lobbii will it grow new leaves. I have one that is about 12 inches long and only has leaves on the end, it just lookes nekked.

Thanks,

Dee

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Great point, Doug. I will try that come spring time!!!

Waterville, VT(Zone 4b)

Dee,

Here is what I would do with that plant if it was mine: I would cut it in half just above one of the old leaf nodes; take the six inch cutting with leaves on the end and insert it into the pot with the green stick that is remaining. Make sure the soil is moist and put the pot into a plastc bag in good light with no direct sun unil the new cutting roots. The old leafless green stem should grow a new stem and leaves from the top of the node. Then you will have a fuller plant, and should soon begin to have blooms, which will form at the end of the new leaf nodes. Hope this makes sense.

You could always cut the bare stem further back nearer the base after taking a cutting from the end, that way, when it re shoots, it will be from a shorter stem. It could just re shoot from where you cut and you would have the same problem

Dominic

Waterville, VT(Zone 4b)

Dominic is correct. Cut it back even further for a reshoot closer to the base.

OK, sounds good to me. Will give it a try.

Thanks,

Great Doug, thanks. Sounds like I made good choice in picking Lobbi. Can't wait to see mine bloom. It is one of the last one I rec'd from Mr Liddle also.

H. lobbi is so pretty. I don't have that one but it's on my list, along with about a hundred others! Oh how I wish I had a lot more space! ^_^

This isn't the greatest picture but I was just out on the deck and knew I was smelling a Hoya ... found DS-70 blooming. It's almost dark but I grabbed the camera and took the picture anyway!

Great picture of DS 70 Lin! The smell must be wonderful.

My H. walliniana has flowered again. Managed to get this photo before the torrential rain from the build up of Tropical Cyclone Lawrence knocked all the flowers off. H. "Kapit Borneo" is ready to flower again but I'll be away when it does. The Hoya labelled H. golamcoana "Los Banos" (but is really something else) is also lining up to flower again shortly. All the others are growing well in the rain and humidity, but no signs of flowering any time soon.

Very Nice Carol! I really like the photo of H. lamingtoniae.

I like 'em all!!
Lots with buds here but no blooms yet.

Teguise, Spain

Is that DL's H aff pubifera Carol? I have it growing really strong here....no flowers yet, but it seems a v strong grower ?

Dom

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

It IS a strong grower, Dom....and the peduncles are quite long which makes it interesting. Yes...it is DL's.... it is one of my favorite small leafed hoyas...

(Zone 1)

Very nice indeed Carol! I especially love the color of that lamintgoniae! The only Hoya's blooming here are DS-70 and australis.

We have an unexpected cold front heading our way with low temp's due Sunday night in the mid 30's and possible FROST! I've moved the Orchids and Hoya's inside and have a bunch of old blankets handy to cover everything else!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

OH dear.... and we are having a drought...after over 36" of rain from Sept - November....none for 10 days!!!!

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Beautiful flowers! I really like that lamintonaie, I hope mine bloom soon.
We are lucky down here, no freeze.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

My experience is that lamingtoniae takes its time to start blooming...but once it starts it is reliable.....

I love that H. hollrungii Carol - you know how I love those eriostemma's - Looks like there is another one I need to get., LOL.

I have a small H. lamingtoniae, at least that is what it is labeled. Is this a slow grower? My has not grown much since I got it this summer. It is growing mind you just not alot and hopefully my H aff pubifera will bloom this summer.

Dee

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

H. lamingtoniae is not a speedy grower, that is for sure. But the deep green leaves and the blossoms make it a winner!!!

noonamah, Australia

This is my 'one time H. golamcoana "Los Banos" now NOID' flowering again. It seems unperturbed by the loss of it's name. There's a number of umbels lining up for an opening.

Apologies...the bloom I posted as H. pubifera is really H. revoluta!!!

Now I am not so sure...I think it IS H. pubifera.

Do I sound confused? I am.
