No fragrance on this one :0(
The green is so pretty and I cannot wait to see my pink one bloom.
I'm sure yours will surprise you on the end of that 'mad' growth!

Minneapolis, MN(Zone 5a)

Beautiful flower and an incredible photograph!
Mike

Very lovely Joni. And there's two versions of it then? A green and a pink? My spring list is getting longer by the day...

Christine

Ive had trouble getting either of those 2 varieties to survive after rooting them...not sure why

That chlorantha sure is a pretty one ... and I bet pink is really gorgeous as well!

I had a first bloom on my little obscura plant, it was so pretty and smelled really sweet. The bloom was still there this morning and now it's gone. The winds have really been kicking up this afternoon ... strong weather system heading our way so I'm thinking the wind blew the flower off. The only other Hoya blooming for me right now is the large EA australis. I was out of town for a little over a week and came back to find this one full of blooms. The fragrance is really nice.

Boy, I hope you guys don't get the weather we had up here this morning, some high winds tornado warnings all morning with a couple of tornado's to go with it. Lots of rain as well. I am just wondering how much rain I have gotten since yesterday afternoon when the rain started. Was raining to hard to check the rain gage when I left the house this morning. Be curious to see just how much when I get home.

Christine,
I have actually 3 version of H. chlorantha...green with pink center, green with greenish center and pink.
I cannot wait to see them all in bloom someday!
I will share with everyone when they finally bloom.

Dee,
The storms are on their way!...It's gonna be a long noisy night tonight!?

Joni

(Zone 1)

Dee, is Chipley up in the Panhandle? I heard on the news that areas around Tallahassee and in other parts of the panhandle got 5" - 6" of rain today with those storms! We are under severe storm warnings, and the wind picked up this afternoon but no rain or thunderstorms yet ... expect it to hit here on the east coast during the overnight hours. All the weather is to the west of us now, a lot of it still out over the gulf, and looking impressive on radar! News folks have been saying we need to have our weather alert radios on during the night because of the threat of Tornado's. I look forward to the rain because we've been so dry, but Tornado's are scary.

Joni: Look forward to seeing photo's of your other chlorantha's when they bloom!

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Hey Joni, is the pink one this one chlorantha var. tutuilensis? Of so, this is already on my wish list, LOL but I need to put the other one on it. I just need to figure which of the other 2 I have already got from you. Hope you aren't rock n' rollin to bad tonight.

Lin, yes Chipley is in the panhandle, I live abou 20 miles from the coast and about 80 miles west of Tallahassee. I just got home and my rain gauge has 5 inches of rain in it. My weather alert was going off about every hour or so last night then when I got to get ready for work we went under tornado warnings. When we left the house about 6:15 to go to work there were tornado's flying all over and a couple of waterspouts down on the coast where I work. Like you I don't mind the rain, but you can't hide from them tornado's. Hope you don't have any of those things, but this system was carrying alot of lightening and rotation in the clouds. the cold front behind the storms is what is causing the boomers. Our warm air just protesting about the cold air trying to invade.
They are saying our temps are supposed to drop down to the 30's on Friday night. Ugh I hate when it does that/

Beautiful! Just curious what kind of fertilizer do you use?

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Good Morning, how did you guys far over night?

Dee

York, PA(Zone 6b)

Morning Dee,
A lot of rain but nothing violent here in SRQ...phew!
Thanks for asking!

Glad to hear that Joni

Good morning ... or is it afternoon? LOL, I had to look and yep, it's still morning. I'm a little out of it as I've been fighting a cold since returning home from North Georgia last Saturday and I'm still a bit foggy.

We fared very well here in Daytona Beach ... some gusty winds, but no thunderstorms, no tornado's, and only a little rain. It's supposed to rain tomorrow and Saturday with another chance of severe weather - hopefully the severe stuff will pass us by as well ... but we need rain!

Deltona, FL(Zone 9b)

We sure do need the rain!

Mountlake Terrace, WA(Zone 8a)

finally, I get to post some flowers! H. 'Krinkle Kurl' finally opened buds. No giant plant, but flowers, yes! And more to come as this plant has two more penduncles.....

Nice variagation on the leaves

York, PA(Zone 6b)

Adog,
Pretty plant! but it sure looks like compacta 'Indian Rope'...similar blooms too?
My 'Krinkle 8' has similar leaves to the carnosas with 8 dimples in most leaves.

Joni

Mountlake Terrace, WA(Zone 8a)

Is H compacta 'Indian Rope' the right name, or 'Krinkle Kurl'. I thought KK was the correct name for any non varigated curled leaf form.

Sorry for being stupid.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Not stupid...you are simply the victim of jerky dealers who gives made up names to sell more plants...I think.

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

My little Odorata blooming, very faint scent, but very nice when you put your nose up to it. I thought this was supposed to be strong scented. Maybe it is because it is small.

ADog: Great growing with your H. compacta! I have a large one I bought from a former DG'er a year or so ago who was giving up a few that she didn't have room to over winter. I like the compacta but it is a mealy magnet down here in the heat and humidity! I always have my spray bottle of isopropyl alcohol handy out on the deck in case I spot those little buggers on that plant!

Dee: Very pretty odorata, I like the looks of those flowers. Maybe the fragrance will be stronger at it's next blooming? I was thinking one of mine (at least I think it was a hoya) didn't have much fragrance on it's first bloom but as it got older the fragrance was more pronounced.

I am so out of it with this cold I've been fighting ... I posted my wayettii bloom picture on the wrong thread earlier today! Anyway, I found two blooms on it ... probably the last for this particular Hoya until next summer.

Thank you so much for your kind comments on my compacta, as it was bought in a 2" pot a couple of years ago and is now in a 6 inch and about 12" long with 3 peduncles in the last 4 inches. I have no idea why it is being so good to me, but its all about it, and not me.

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Hoya australis Mrs G. Very compact growing, fragrant, seems to flower earlier then most australis IMHO.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

I really like Ms. G - she grows more compact AND blooms earlier than many others....

Teguise, Spain

Ms G being a cv?

(Zone 1)

Mrs G. is a beauty!

I had to go google it, and look what popped up! Lots of lovely Hoya's ... and if you can stop drooling enough to get past the first few, Mrs. G is at the very bottom of the page: http://www.bigislandgrowers.com/ghp/AH/HPub.htm

Analog---I love your pic! Then the "dead" santa in your front yard gave me a good laugh! Thanks!

Mountlake Terrace, WA(Zone 8a)

Yep, I never noticed 'Dead Santa;' in that pic he goes up when the lights are on, and off when they are off.

(Zone 1)

LOL, re: "Dead Santa". There must be a virus or something going around ... I've been seeing a lot of dead santa's, snowmen, and disney figures all over Florida lately! ^_^

North Augusta, ON

Is that how those Santa's work?!! I keep seeing them and thinking, "man, people sure are wasting their money buying those inflatable things that just go poof after two days" LOLOL

(Zone 1)

Yeah, apparently there is some sort of electrical air pump and when the outside lights come on at night, the pumps activate and blow up the plastic Santa's, Elves, Snowmen etc. My sister in Fort Lauderdale has the blow up things all over their yard during the holidays!

Huntington Station, NY(Zone 7a)

We had a snowman at work (INSIDE) that blew up as well.....Some idiot did something to the wiring and it caught a flame...now, no more snowman! I tried to tell them that I thought they were for outside use only...but what did I know! ha!

Waterville, VT(Zone 4b)

There are a few Hoyas blooming at my house right now in cold bleak December. Here is DS-70 from the underside.
