The birding has been great lately, but it's just too cloudy and cold to take pictures of the real birds. I've been enjoying the birds on my x-mas tree. Thought some of you might have an x-mas tree full of birds too. I'll start with just one and if you share yours, I'll share more of mine.
A woodpecker - a downy or a hairy. I don't know the difference other than size. This ornament is 5" so I'm going with Downy!
Share your bird ornaments!
Thats a beautiful one Elphaba!
I'll post some after we get the ornaments out.
After I posted this, I realized that most people probably don't put their tree up in November! I'll wait patiently.
Love that ornament, Elphaba...where did you get it? My tree won't be up for a couple of weeks but I will post pics...I have a LOT of bird ornaments. My family thinks that I am nuts......
My family thinks that I'm nuts too, but truthfully, they have a lot of reasons! I bought that ornament at a local nursery called Another Place in Time, but that was a couple of years ago. They have cute garden and nature ornaments every x-mas. I really liked how realistic the woodpecker was, and I love how you can clip him any way you want on the branch and he looks natural!
I got this gold finch at the same place. He's kind of floppy though, and just like the real birds, he's refusing to look at me!
Elphaba, your ornaments are just beautiful.
I have only seen the old victorian ones made from feathers - yours are great and I will be on the look-out for some too.
Thanks y'all. I can't wait to see your ornaments! Most of mine aren't as realistic as those two. That's what I'm going to look for from now on though. Next year, I want a hummingbird. Maybe a Rufous since I've seen them here in the winter 4 times and this year, one is just hanging out in my yard.
Here's a spotted owl.
We have a lot of bird ornaments. I took pics of them a couple of days ago to respond to this thread, but can't get my camera to download to my computer. If I get things figured out, I'll post.
That happened to me a while ago and it spelled the end of that camera. Hope your problem isn't as serious. Mrs. Ed gave me a tip that helped for a while. I didn't have an SD Card reader on my laptop. I was able to buy one for only $10 and then I just took the memory card out of the camera and uploaded the images directly from the card.
This is so cool! I only have a tiny Christmas tree but I made a wreath a couple years ago that I drove all over town looking for bird ornaments to put on it! i finally found a Cardinal, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Hummingbird, Blue Jay, CHickadee and a BLuebird but I have it hung at my office... I'll try and take a pic of it soon and post it to this thread
Elphaba - I got to keep my eyes open for bird ornaments. I never even thought about that, course, I've only been a birder for less that a year.
reddirtretiree - You blew me away, WOW, so many. I don't think I have any bird ornies.
Hack
Oh yeah, Elphaba, I think your male WP ornament is a Hairy WP, because I can't see any black spots on the sides of it's tail feathers (Downy's have the black spots along the edge of their tail feathers - Hairy WPs are all white, like yours.)
Hack
LOL Hack! I love it that you're new to birding and can already ID a bird ornament! Good to know that it's actually a Hairy.
Nice ornaments guys!
Elphaba - don't give me too much credit, Resin taught me the difference.
Hack
I like that one.
OMG! That is so amazing reddirt. Why can't I get birds like that? I'm so jealous!
That really is quite a collection, red.
