SW - you mean come around August/Sept? Great idea.
Yes it's winter even in California!
Well I have a few rounded up in one of the critter pens if you want to do it now. But August sounds more fitting somehow . . .
Still laughing at the person who "hung" the snowman in effigy.

I tried making a tumbleweed (Russian thistle, I think?) snowman one year. Ended up with a car full of seeds, and stickers in my hands. One of those things it's better for me to see in someone else's yard...LOL!!
I've seen nice snowmen made of painted tumbleweeds....pretty neat, too.
I see a lot of that going on lately.....people reach a certain age and they 'go back home'...whether it's a reaching for memories, family, security, I don't know. I keep wishing that I had somewhere to go back home to...this is home. But, it doesn't fit my image of what I want 'home' to be anymore. Wish I were from somewhere else. That's probably a longing for our world to be 'not what it is' now.
And, in closing...the Olympics! WOW! I'm speechless. I don't care for sports at all, but love the Winter Olympics. What a tribute to the human spirit.
I have had those thoughts before of taking 3 descending sized tumbleweeds and stacking them with a fence post down through the middle, then spraying with white paint. But, com to think of it leaving them au natural IS more indicative of the area. AND doing it in late summer early fall is more appropriate too as our 'dormant' season is with our extreme heat (similar to during snowy periods in the north). Even the horses worming meds seasons are reversed here.
Then, after the brown tumbleweed 'snowman' has been here for a month or so, he can be hanged as an expression of our being 'so over' our heat.
You guys crack me up. Did you ever think about flocking the tumbleweeds with the spray sno flock you can buy in cans (we buy it in big bags for the Christmas Trees)?
QG, you got it right, let's do it just because we can. I'll find us those tumble weeds so no need for messing up the car, and we'll drive it into the ground using a stake and let it get good and dusty, then we can hang it in effigy, maybe out by the Kite eating Tree? Yup, that'd be a good place, or the picnic area, Nah! Not there. The older I get the more creative in play I get. Or maybe I'm more easily amused. LOL!
My favorite yard decoration is in Sun City, where they've placed an old out house in their front yard and strung a clothesline across the back of it sporting a faded pair of long johns. Too funny! I love the unconventional!
wcgypsy, I am very impressed with what I've been able to see of the Winter Olympics. Truly some great athletes. I'm not into sports myself, but I've always loved watching the Olympics. So many gold medals last night for the USA. : - )

Yes, the Olympics last night was just phenomenal!
I'm a baaaad girl - I was watching dogs instead!
SW-How about setting up Tumble-man where it can be seen from Scott Rd? Even illuminated at night. Suppose April RU is too soon for tumbleweeds (or I hope so).
Apparently to homeowners association where that house is in Sun City.
I don't know QG, seems to me that I corralled some tumblers in one of the empty critter pens. The big deal right now is to ask DH about flock and getting the machine from storage. LMA.
DH says we have flock, he did not answer about the flocking machine. He's thinking it over.
I told him would could sort of paper machete it first. He's still thinking about it.
I'll let you know what he decides. LOL~

IDK. Paper mache would loose the desert snowman effect, so might flocking. Maybe spray gold glitter? With yesterday's winds, we did doge a couple tumbleweeds. Family wondered about my muttering "they ARE out already".
LOL!
