We had rain starting last night about 10:30 pm here. I didn't get a chance to check the rain gauge yet. The wind has been cruelly cold.
Hope everyone enjoyed the winter solstice yesterday, and finds some consolation that the days will be getting longer now.
Was so beautiful and clear this afternoon. Finally finished with the shopping. I always forget the stocking stuffers.
I do hope everyone has a safe and Happy Holiday.

Yippee! It's raining!
It rained here today for about 30 seconds.
The days get one minute longer now...slowly but surely...
The area where I had New Guinea Impatiens planted looks like a crime scene...black slime and "body parts" scattered around. It aint pretty. lol
My Christmas Cactus bloom got beat up pretty bad. Sigh! We have some downed branches, knocked over trees in the lot, and on my patio at home, but most things are just fine. Except they say it's going to get really cold here tonight. Already down to 48. Supposed to be about 33 degrees here tonight. Brrr!
Sorry to hear about your NG Impatiens, JD. It's kind of hard to laugh at that kind of damage, but what else can you do? Will they be coming back from the damage or will you have to start all over again?
I hope they come back and grow into healthy plants for you.

They'll get yanked tomorrow. The Cineraria's will take up their former spot.
It's 46* here right now.
I'm just 'singing' away here...I LOVE winter. Rain and wind are just the thing for me.....fire going in the woodstove, listening to the rain while in bed...beautiful!
edited to add that all of my trees and plants are singin' and dancin' also...they LOVE the rain...lol...

...until ya have to work in it !
Give me the heat any day.
Work?
When I took my Mom the $4 potted "Christmas Tree" w/lights, this morning. The stars I put on there for decorations were blowing off . . .
wc, don't give me that, I know you work all the time. But do enjoy your brief and cozy interlude, and keep on singing!
I love the way the earth and plants smell after the rain, and how clear the sky is, and how much you can see on a really clear day. I like the way it nourishes the plants. Do I want to be out in it? Nope. I agree with wc. A snuggly blanket, some good music of rain falling, a warm fire burning in the woodstove and a good book to read is my favorite way to spend a rainy day.
JD, I'm with you, give me warmth. It's 7:15, I've been out to cover the frost sensitive plants, and wondering why that rogue tomato plant is still alive. The temp has now dropped to 46. Looks like we get the same temps for now. LOL!
Sorry about the bed of flowers, JD, but the Cinerarias will like it. Keep me posted. I'm trying to figure out where to plant mine. : - )
Sorry, Buddy Holly, is trying to help me. Claws were involved, along with his eviction from the room. LOL!

I'm with you Mike. It sucks working in the cold. I can handle the heat. Wind and rain and working outside is for the birds.....or something....just not me!!!
My (and DH) idea of hot and cold seems to change every year. Saturday was too hot - today was too cold. I don't mind getting older except for all the changes one has to go through. :-(
The older I get the smaller my comfort zone gets. LOL Sounds like you are going to have one of my kind of nights, but we'll be this way til February. 33 right now, we'll be below freezing for the next few nights. Darn, makes for icy roads on Christmas. We don't need to go out, but it will cause wrecks on the highway again.
Everyone have a have a wonderful Holiday, stay safe and warm.
Had frost on the ground this morning, but it's sunny.
Was sunny here too, and should be as warm as it's gonna get for awhile, for the next two days, then more rain! Yippee! We don't have to work, or go any where, or do anything except for watch the wildflowers grow. : - )
Hope you get some more sunshine, Sally.

The sun was out today a little SW, but it never hit 40, so there was no warmth to it. Does make it more cheerful though.
We're back down to the 30s this morning----35 at the moment. I hear hummers chirping, but they're staying in their nests because they know the feeders are frozen.
Pigeon, I went through Gilroy yesterday...and yes, I smelled the garlic ( I love garlic) I waved, did you see me? After all of these trips back and forth, I needed to go down 101 where it's prettier...we left a day early, on Christmas Day, and so didn't go to the Aquarium, but we'll be back and forth, so perhaps next time we'll have time to make it down 1. I'm not sure how long this will be going on, but all I wanted to do yesterday was get home.....
I wondered who that was waving----you were probably smelling the sourdough-garlic croutons for my Vampire Salad! Glad you're home safe and sound~~
