HG Great Job!!! I'm going to work on mine this weekend, I'm just too busy doing other things
Betty I hope you won't mind me mentioning this on your thread... maybe you or someone could tell me where this should be posted. I thought maybe fancyfan might know since she has worked with rescuing dogs.
Listening to everyone's chitter chatter about our precious little pets from time to time... I can tell we are all pet lovers, so thought maybe together we can get the word out and find these poor little doggies a home.
You ladies may have already heard about this...but for those of you.. like myself.. that didn't know...
I received a email from a friend today saying that they are closing Dairyland Greyhound Racetrack in Kenosha, Wisconsin on December 31, 2009.
900 Greyhounds need to be adopted or they will be euthanized. Please help me get the word out; there is only 6 weeks to get this task done.

Jane thanks for posting this - I heard about it last week and I'm sure all the greyhound rescues are busy finding homes for these dogs. The greyhound rescue group here just brought 14 dogs up from Florida last month. I dont know if they are all adopted yet.
Not sure about the number - I thought it was 500.
I only follow sheltie rescue groups but I expect this will go out all over North America -these things get around pretty quickly within the rescue community.
You could post in the Pet forum here. Wondering if there is email - will check for a greyhound rescue site.
Oh my, how terrible, surely they make nice pets...thanks for posting...my sister Sharon does the rescue for American eskimo dogs..guess there are agencies for each type of breed...let's hope homes are found..
Getting back on track..... Betty my project still sits on the craft table as it was posted in my first pic! Haven't touched it! Well it started snowing a bit ago and apparently will snow most of the day, blowing too so I guess my plans for the day which involved driving to several places are on hold and I can get back to the snowmen! Maybe!
Just a few flurries here Carol..thank goodness...
Looking forward to seeing your works of art..
Heres whats in store courtesy of a local TV station weather watchers:
Friday: Winter Storm Warning. Snow, blowing snow, high wind chill through most of the day. 5-20 cm of snow, temperature falling to -7
Saturday: Light snow, drifting snow, high -12
Sunday: Flurries, high -16
Monday: Clearing, high -17
Tuesday: Sunny, high -17
I was going to walk the dogs but changed my mind. !
Just went to lunch and drove to pick up Jeff's birthday cake at Sobey's...winds up and just starting to snow..a client who works in Parry Sound, about 100 miles north of us just called and said they had blizzard conditions all day...
Mock up.......
Looks dreadful outside, snowing and blowing something fierce. Dogs keep wanting to go out but I expect they won't stay long. Glad Fancy's vet trip was yesterday!
Betty what color do you have on the edges of the hat/brim? Looks like maybe grey or white? I realise it maybe doesn't matter - one can be creative, but I tend to want to follow the pattern!
I might redo the face on the left it is a bit scrunched up!

Actually it was entirely black, think what makes it look like another color was because in many of the areas I sanded down to raw wood to give it the primitive look..
Your pieces will be adorable once they are decorated...blizzard like temps make you want to play with Christmas decorating right..always wondered how it felt in Florida to decorate for Christmas without the snow and cold...we should be so lucky right?
Hey you girls keep warm and safe,it finally got cold here 26 windy, not as cold as you canadians!!! we might get some flurries !!
OK so next 2 questions
1. what kind of glue do you use - just white glue?
2. How have you attached the greenery and other decs? I am thinking to staple them in place.
Hey somebody tell me...how did you attach the greenery/decorations? Glue gun? staples?
Sorry, finally got back to computer..
Carol, if you've a stapler then that's perfect for the greenery..Wood pieces I use wood glue you find at any hardware store ..I prefer using the 'no nails' glue in a tube just because it's so durable...
glue gun works as well

Thanks
I used white glue and it seems fine.
I may need both staplesand glue gun for my decorations!
Almost finished!
I just used a clear glue made for all kinds of crafts that I got at the hard wood store and it is holding all of my stuff the wood and decorations good. Susan
I used a glue gun for the greenery, bradnailer and wood glue (elmers) We have a small portable air tank,dh brought it down w/nailer for me.i felt empowered for a few minits while using the nailer, boo ya,woo woo !!!!
Thanks folks, I think it will be a combo of glue and staples as some of the bits I want to add are a touch heavy. Tried to glue the greetings board on last night but it was not entirely flat and discovered I did not have enough clamps the right size to I removed it and cleared off all the glue. If I get out in the next few days ( have just had a huge winter storm and it is EXTREMELY cold here) I will get some more and finish it off.
I dont know what my fingers think they are doing but the past while I find I am typing all the letters but in the wrong order. Oddly enough I recall my mother having the same problem with her typewriter( remember those things? LOL!) And I quite persistently put a 't' on the end of enough!
lol..you be careful out there Carol..snow has stopped here, seems it's getting milder...it's a preview of what is to come though...
yes, some of the thinner boards for greetings might have cured a bit and bent..if you have some small (short) finishing nails it would work 100%...
I keep forgetting that not everyone has brad nails/nailer...
Sorry
Ok I've got snow too so you must have know I needed to stay close to the house and basically in the house for the next week and sent it with my snow men.lol We haven't had this much snow in 10 years, its so neat. Well everyone have a Wonderful Day and stay warm, I need to get off and get all the Christmas gifts I got started finished. Susan
So glad we could share some of our snow...just be careful driving if you are not used to it....could be dangerous..
Never thought about nailing Betty!
Just might have some finishing nails somewhere!
Edit: no nails, got some good clamps at Cdn Tire and that seemed to work fine. Handy to have a selection of those clamps anyway, the ones I already had were too small.

Done!
Where are they going? Had to think about that cause I could not remember my original idea.
So one is going to my dog groomer Wendy who has been coming to my house for 10 years . She sets up in the back porch and is here about 3 hours doing 2 shelties! We had to cancel 2 appointments in the past 2 weeks because of snowstormes so I hope she makes it on Friday cause the dogs are getting hairy and stinky.
The other is going to my friend nurse Sally who has been coming over every 6-8 weeks for at least 10 years to clip my cats front toe nails, sadly now only 1 to do.
They are so cute, I have to wait to finish mine till I get to town tomorrow and get another bottle of stain. Then I will have one for each of the daughter in laws and will have to find some thing else to make for the daughter, she has been wanting a barb wire wreath so that may be what she gets this year. Everyone have a good night better get back to sewing two aprons down and three more to go. Love it when they change my mind on bought gifts to home mades. Susan
They are just adorable Carol..sounds as though they are going to good homes, always nice to give hand made gifts that will be appreciated...
Doesn't the glitter just finish them off...I especially like the greenery how you've done it...were you able to find finishing nails...you must have...
Just finished sewing a quilt block that I was behind in Susan..one thing about blizzards, they give you inhouse time to play..
enjoy your evening everyone..
No finishing nails Betty! I thought it looked secure enough without - I clamped it securely for 24 hours.
The glitter adds a nice touch, somebody further up the thread gave me the idea. and I happened to have some that already was mixed with glue -( another little unfinshed project!)
The greenery stuff came from some other project that I took apart!
Thanks for doing this!
Love all the snowmen so far. I will try to start mine this week-end.
I am part way through mine...hope to finish it soon...
fancy, nice job, they will make great gifts, cute ,cute.Iam ready to see more done projects how about you ?? hope its soon !!!!
too cute...
Storming here, guess it's to be expected as it's mid December..not liking it though...lol
So keep working girls, santa's needs creative elves...
Good morning everyone, well I'm off today to town and a garden club Christmas meeting and to get the rest of the items I need to finish my Christmas projects, I just wish the kids had decided I needed to make theirs a little earlier in the year, lol. Now Santa's helper is having late nights and early mornings. I still haven't gotten any decorations out except my snow man with the cardinal on the door, so that's for this weekend along with getting a horse ready to run barrels on, hope it warm and not snowing, but this is our fun one and we've decided no matter what we're going to have it and the party. So better get off and make sure all the gifts for the battered
women's home is loaded, and everyone have a wonderful day, we are finely getting warm and all that strange white stuff is going away. Susan
