New server problems on Nov 23rd

Last night around midnight the database server again stopped responding. This was the exact same day and time as the crash from last week.

I have identified the culprit (it's related to the newsletter) and will be fixing it. The site might be iffy this morning while I'm working but we shouldn't have any long outages again.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

thanks for the info... and come to think of it... i didn't get the newsletter either monday.

Yep, the newsletter hasn't gone out yet. I'll be sending it shortly.

North Augusta, ON

wow...panic attack on my end. Dave, this has got to stop happening!! I quit smoking Sat. night...was insane enough as it is without my "safe zone" vanishing!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Thanks, Dave. Sometimes many of us fear it's just our computer so it's a relief to know the real story.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Whew! DG addiction withdrawal....it isn't pretty.

Thanks for the info Dave. It's amazing how "lost" I feel, when I can't get my DG fix first thing in the morning!

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

its the first thing i do too when i get up at 6 am is look at Daves.

Now I know how an alcoholic must feel! LOL

Thanks to you and the staff for staying on top of things, so we can all have our fix.

Dave,

There seems to be a problem trying to get to the "Purchase from" links in Plantfiles. I've tried three and get an error message each time. Here is the message from one but all are similar.

Database error: Invalid SQL: insert into ps_clicks (date, compid, referer, ip, rid, pdbpid) values (now(), '35', 'http://davesgarden.com/products/ps/go/1884/','162.40.141.109','','1884')
MySQL Error: 145 (Table './gardening/ps_clicks' is marked as crashed and should be repaired)

Session halted.

Thanks; this is fixed.

Mountlake Terrace, WA(Zone 8a)

I am usually a nighttime DGer from the PNW, and I saw a MySQL error everytime I hit the page. Noted that the DG Newsletter was late, too. Thanks for working so hard Dave. I love this site.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wars, recession, national debt, political divisions - who cares!! Dave's is down! ^_^

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Darn straight! We was gettin' ready to take up arms and come to his defense! 8 )

Valdosta, GA(Zone 8b)

LOL. We were the panic stricken masses. :)

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

yes we were! LOL
=^..^=

Valdosta, GA(Zone 8b)

We were also having DT's (Dave's Tremors) :)

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

LOL! Panic stricken masses!!! DT's !!!!! So funny but true!

I was looking at something and suddenly got that awful message........Soooooo sad..... I knew immediately what it meant: no Dave's until sometime in the morning, eastern standard time......

Still having trouble - immediately went back to a post to edit; clicked on edit, after a minute or two of looking at a blank screen, I went back to the thread another way and added a comment to the thread.

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

Well, I clicked on back to Dave's Garden Forum and ended up looking at a blank page again... Something is still wrong.

Phoenix, AZ

It's Sunday, Nov. 29, noon (Mtn. time) and the site has not worked right all day. Takes forever to load and when it does, it's not the page I usually see. When it finally does come up, it treats me like a stranger, not a member! What's up????

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Is it working OK for you now? I haven't been on in the last few hours but it was working fine earlier (~9 AM Pacific) and it's working fine now.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

I've been off and on all day, no issues on my end.

Looking at the logs, our traffic has been consistent all day long with no interruptions...

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

Might be that you need to turn your computer off for a few minutes and then reboot. That will fix a lot of little problems.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I had a bit of a problem earlier this evening, but could have just as easily been on my end. We are on broadband and it was taking much longer than normal for photos to enlarge and return to thumb-nail and the various threads to load....went away for a while and all seems normal now.

...and this a.m., all is great & wonderful! Thank you...

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Hear hear Podster. I agree, Thanks to Dave and the whole crew.

I was a little nervous last night and I rushed in to check DG this morning. The past two downtimes were Monday mornings so this morning was the real test.

Having the site not go down means I did indeed fix the problem last week. ^_^

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

Yippee! That was such a weird problem to track down and fix too. Glad that the fix was permanent!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Yea! Dave. Perhaps a bit of the problem comes from being such a great place to play....with success, headaches. Grin

Hope you know how happy this Garden Playground makes nearly half a million folks, and how truly grateful so many of them are for your time and good care.

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

Well said!

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

I too was glad to see it up and running early this morning... I was up earlier than normal -- so i was able to enjoy Daves with my coffee. Got my Newsletter to boot. ;-)

What in the world would I do if I couldn't garden in the winter on DG? Thank you Dave!

...
And thanks to those who work behind the scene and go unnoticed! We love you, too!

Hugs&blessings ... ~Susan

OK, I'm still having problems. For as long as I can remember, I've logged on by clicking a bookmark on my toolbar that takes me right to the Southwest Forum. Now I get a page that doesn't recognize me as a member and I have to login and go through several hoops to get where I want to go. And I have the problem someone else mentioned: photos take quite a while to load, even in the thumbnails.

Any thoughts as to why this is happening?

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

What browser are you using? (maybe IE8?)

Do you have another one that you can switch to?

It would be interesting to try Firefox (if you're not already) and just see if it works out. IE used to be good, but nowadays it is an extremely buggy web browser.

Phoenix, AZ

Dave, I do use Firefox. I like it although it has it's own quirks, it's not a 'buggy' - as you say - as IE. I just noticed that our masthead changed, too, and wondered if that's a part of whatever happened to change things up. ??

No, that wouldn't have any effect at all.

I might suggest you check your preferences and make sure that your cookies are not set to expire when you close the browser. Your login is stored as a cookie and as long as that cookie is present, you remain logged in.

So if it's showing that you're not logged in, that means the cookie was removed somehow.

Phoenix, AZ

Checked the cookies. They're there for DG, about 6 in fact and they're set "save till they expire" or something to that effect. Should I erase the old cookies and start over? This is puzzling - and annoying.

Erasing the cookies and starting again wouldn't be a bad thing to try (although I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't solve the problem).

Question: What is the exact address of the link that you're going to in that bookmark?
