Here's a little song, we can all join in now...Gypsies

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

morning Trina Smilely and Venice! Venice I am envious that Christmas cactus is beautiful!!! Trina maybe you can put many plants in one big planter for now until new dirt shows up in spring. Gotta go switch out gas tanks, been nice knowing yall lol

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I'm not sure I want to put elephant bush cuttings in a 'large' planter...I may never be able to move it again...LOL

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Trina, I didn't water it because my potting soil was wet!

Trina, how big is your elephant?

Smiley, here is my kiwi. About 1/4 of the leave are 90% dead.

Christmas cactus is fine. It was the aloe plant that was dying.

I water my aloes at least once a month, I was just asking that's all

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Trina, what type of potting soil do you use for an aloe?

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

same thing as I do everything else either Miracle grow or Expert Gardener, I don't get into all the soil mixing and stuff

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Sorry about that Venice, I thought you meant the Christmas Cactus.

Some of my starts are doing that too, Venice. I figure if I get one to make it through the winter, I did good.

What I did was buy 3 little pots of it in the spring and put them in this huge pot outside. They grew like crazy, so in fall I cut some off, sent to you, Trina & saved some for me. Then we had to bring the pot in so it doesn't crack over the winter, so I cut the whole thing down. But not all the way down. It's in my basement, so in spring, if it survives, the plan is to bring it back outside & grow it again.

So if yours die, hopefully I'll have more next year to share.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I can repot it again with some new soil. I will need to go and get some also. I suppose I should let the leaves die on their own.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

I wouldn't mess with anything too much at this time of year, maybe Dave or Moon can verify that, but I thought most plants are winding down for the winter.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Smiley, does my plant need darkness? I have a very small Guinea Impatiens I potted inside from the garden. The top completely died. Should I put it in the dark? Do these annuals need to be dormant for a while?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Do any of you have a problem with gnats?

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I do when I first start bringing them in but I spray everything done with some bug killer stuff

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Then they are completely gone?

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I do it when I first bring them in and then again about 10 days later, I usually don't have anyproblems after that, unless we get fruit over the winter and then no one eats it

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Venice check out my new post on Garden and Home Remedys may have a solution for your knats

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Flowers, is dried basil ok? Can't use catnip because of my cat. And about the garlic, should that be chopped up?

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

ok I might actually have enough to pot most of the small stuff up, having son call around looking for more potting soil!

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Venice, I think they might naturally go dormant, just from the difference in light & temperature. DH says all the indoor plants in our house kind of slow down for the winter. He decreases the watering schedule.

I never took care of our indoor plants - he does that. I've been taking care of the ones I brought in, and they don't need as much water like they did outside. And they are in our unheated sunroom, so don't get as much natural light as during the summer. They're not growing, but they're not dying either. Kind of just hanging out.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

yes Venice dried basil is fine but use bulb garlic I would think

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Ok, I will just them hang out!!! grin

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

uhg now I'm sneezy!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I get sneezy when I pot things also!

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

I have lots of fun remedys that I plan to post hope others will like

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Uhg! running out of dirt running out of Pots....always something to do!

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Moon told me about that picture. She posted it before, long time ago. They are Aborigine street musicians in Australia. I love that photo.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I'm starting to get peeved at my PO! argh! Hi smiley!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

it's dirt I need cause I know there are more plants coming! LOL

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Hi Trina! What is a PO? In my world, it's a purchase order. Of which I have plenty, buried deep to my elbows in them. Now is the time we place all our orders for next years pool season. That's something to look forward to!

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

PO...Post Office...I sent 21 packages on friday and 3 of them still haven't arrived at thier destinations, these people were very patient when I got sick and couldn't get them out quickly, and the one keeps saying the DC # is invalid, I thought at first maybe I typed the wrong number that I sent her, so I rechecked using the little slip the PO gave me and it still says it's an invalid number...argghh!! I am very frustrated

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

and I found more potting soil so I bought 3 bags and 2 more orchids...I have issues LOL

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

du-uh on the post office.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I still can't believe I ran out of potting soil, oh well they were starting to put out there bulbs like amaryllis and paper whites, I was sooooo tempted to get some

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

they are all over the place here. but nothing different, all the same. tulips, daffodils, muscari etc..

been there, have that!

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I didn't realize I liked the amaryllis so much, but they only had Red Lion, Apple Blossom and Minerva, the most common, so I got 2 orchids I didn't have instead....LOL

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

ok I'm back at square one again where every flat surface is covered in plantsI had them all arranged until I started potting more up....LOL

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

well if its any consulation Trina I'm losing it too. I am making lists so as not to forget lists made lol Only mine doesn't involve plants right now.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Well flowers I need a list to tell me where I put the list. LOL
