what's a male pig called?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

a boar....female is a sow.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

how about a female that hasn't had babies yet?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

A baby female pig is called a gilt. A young male not used for breeding is called a porker. The generic term for any baby pig is piglet

Venice, I have a 1st edition of the 1910 copy. I love that book, didn't have any trouble with the syntax.

'that munnot waste no time' is one of my favorite lines Dicken says it to Mary. I say it all the time and my kids have stopped looking at me weird.

Well, I just stopped by to say 'hi'. Had to go to a coworkers mom's wake, now the darned dog keeps 'nosing me' to play.

Rachel - I didn't sing along to Journey, would have scared my coworkers, but I thought of you!

We had 'farm day' in school when I was in 3rd grade. We lived across from the school. A farmer brought in a cow, sheep, pig & some piglets. After school a piglet got loose, so us neighbor kids chased it & flagged it down. It was fun, but not for the farmer.

Lynnie, I check out Barnes & Noble. Now I am even more confused!!!! They have editions: 1998 (368 p), 2004 (248 p), 2005 (160 p), 2008 (272 p), 2009 (272 p).
She is 10 years old but she reads at a VERY excelled level. She skipped 1st grade.

Someone help and tell me which one is best for her!!!

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

the 1998 edition is the original unabridged as the author wrote it, everything else after has been messed with because the original copyright ran out. so do you want her to read the original classic version as the author intended or what some freak editor tried to take out or add, personally I would go with the 98 version

(Zone 5b)

lol Venice I felt the same way trying to pick out Little Women for my daughter. Check which one is listed as young adult.....

(Zone 5b)

if Smiley & Trina read the early one as kids, I'm sure it's ok for your granddaughter, you could always go to a bookstore & flip through the pages. That's one book I never read, although I was thinking of getting it for the kids.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Venice. Part of the reason for different numbers of pages depends on the size of the book and the font it is printed in and whether it has illustrations or not. Give her the original edition, children have been reading it for decades.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

yeah well while you all go to GW and other thrift shops if you find OLD books, or any really long flowy skirts for dirt cheap let me know, yes I am a dork I like the really long ankle length skirts, think kinda hippy, although I do wish one of you ladies lived close enough to help me go through my closet, I ask butthead and the kids and they all have a programmed response of that looks great, everything looks good on you...I hate that!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Moon, you mean the 1910 version?

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I might have 2 copies of that Book Venice, same edition, why buy it if I have it, if I do I'll dmail you and send it to you tomorrow, then you could use the money to get something else she also wanted, or more pots for plants....LOL

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Trina, I don't want to take what you have. You bought it for a reason so just hang on to it!

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

not that you know people who might randomly send you plants or something....LOL

(Zone 5b)

Trina I thought maybe you were collecting pigs now.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Trina, are you talking about the 1998 one? If you are, I can get that next to nothing on this site!

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I think with that many copies I can afford to give one up, besides My mom gets me a new copy of that book every year for my birthday, giving up one won't kill me...I've given several copies away and she knows that, I got my son to read it and now amanda who thought I was stupid when I handed it to her is on her third run through it, amanda has serious reading issues and if she can understand it then your grand daughter should enjoy it immensly

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

My grandfather raise Hamshire pigs.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Trina is it the 1998 one???

(Zone 5b)

oh yeah? and where does he live Venice? (she asks innocently).......
*grin*

(Zone 5b)

I think the 1998 version is the original unabridged version, Venice, I was just looking at that B&N site.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

He lives in the ground now!

(Zone 5b)

good for pig roasting

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

yes I have a few copies of the 1998 edition, IF she truly loves the book though let me know....wink... beside I have something I am sending to you tomorrow anyway, wouldn't be no trouble to put an extra copy in the box...

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

hey the dryer is finally fixed! yeah laundry can be finished tomorrow! LOL

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Trina, did you see this? $5 off and free shipping!!! on a $6.55 book!!!

https://www.discountbooksale.com/p42989/The-Secret-Garden.html?ec=1

It is cheaper if I get it here than if you send it. BUT I can't find if that is a new or used book!!!

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

well that is a good deal....I must not bookmark that site or I will be in trouble....LOL

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Trina, my GD has her birthday on Dec. 29th. So I always have to plan on double gifts.

On Craigslist I found a gardening tote with tools for $5 and I know they run closer to $30. The Secret Garden would go well with that along with Forget Me Not seeds, both suggested from our girls. I don't think she can have indoor place because of her dog, boxer but thinks he is a lap dog. I would have to find out for sure she hasn't read it yet. I will try to get hold of my son.

Then for her birthday, I got a little $.49 GW dish she can put her earrings or necklace in. Also, since she is playing the cello now, I am giving her my hummel, Little Cellist. She chose that instrument because my son told her that I played it.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Trina, the $5 was already taken off the $6.55 but there is still no shipping.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

aaawwww....she sounds like a very well rounded little girl Carol!

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

then that's still pretty darn good! I'm trying to think of the other place I get books from that's pretty good on price

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

She doesn't garden yet. But given the tools, she might garden!!!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Sometimes you can find really low prices, but the shipping rate is high. So in the long run, it gets to be more expensive than you thought.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I left a message with my daughter-in-law, but she is always so busy that I doubt she will call back. But I will go ahead and order that book. I haven't read it so if she has, it will be a gift to myself.
