Brent and Becky sale continues

Dallas, GA(Zone 7b)

Check again, vossner.

I checked earlier this morning and didn't see it either. But it's there now when you check out.

I just ordered some (more than I had intended or have room for, but not as many as I had feared I'd order!)

There are some beauties left. Have fun, everyone.

jo

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

TY Jo, indeed 50% off shows now. I noticed amaryllis and paperwhite are not disc. but there's still many bargains to be had. nice way to experiment with plants which you are not sure will make it but if lost, well, not so painful on the pocketbook.

Southeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Yay! Off to do more bulb shopping! Beautiful here today - no sign of ground freezing. :-)

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Ah! Just got home to find this in my email. It was left hours ago. They are really making it (sinfully) easy!

Dear Customers and Gardening Friends,

THey have a lot of great options left! I'm afraid I went a little overboard.
Surprise surprise.

I did not resist lol
Tam

Dallas, GA(Zone 7b)

Way too hard to resist, Tam.

I intended only to get two lots of tulips, but would up with 3 lots of tulips, 2 lots ofdaffs, and one lot of hyacinths. I did manage to resist any lilies but thats just because I have been bad with lillies at BuggyCrazy's.

But ain't it glorious?

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

OK Donna, you are an enabler...

I broke down and ordered a few things from the 50% off sale. Actually if I were smart I'd order the majority of my bulbs from this sale every year, as I am fortunately able to plant here well into December for most things and lilies year-round. I still might have to do another Buggy order, however. Unfortunately I am usually impatient and so start ordering bulbs s soon as they become available in the summer (for fall delivery), partially because I am always worried if I don't get early they'll be "gone", but I must say that B&B still has a really nice selection left for those able to plant this late.

Also I ordered a 25-daylily collection (mixed) from Oakes - well I screwed up and put "2" in my shopping cart so now have 50 coming. Anyone who has ordered from Oakes before knows their daylilies are huge with 3-5 fans minimum on most and they also throw in bonuses on top of it. Normally I buy named varieties but those are much more expensive and Oakes claims these are as large as their regular divisions, just unnamed seedlings. I guess the second box will go to the neighbors' garden since they just put in some new beds :-)

All I have left to plant aside from this stuff are tulips, which are still in the refrigerator.

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Fantastic Steve! I figured that our southern friends still had numerous opportunities to succumb. I also tend to order early with some concern about availability. So i just placed my fourth order from B&B last week. It's amazing what's still out there.

There are worse additions...party on!

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

Steve, what a regrettable mistake, 50 instead of 25, lol.

From the 50% sale I got iris reticulata Harmony, lily Garden Party, Ipheon, daffs Dutch Master & Monal, which are supposed to be good for southern gardens.

What I have left to plant is my B&B stuff and whatever daffs I find locally, but they'll have to be dirt cheap.

somewhere, PA

I got three other iris reticulata (I forget already.) and 10 Garden Party lilies, and 10 ea of
another 4 tulip varieties and maybe 2-3 types of daff's.

Steve - of anything to goof on, that wasn't too bad. I once ordered 3 of each book I was
buying. I have no idea how I managed it but that was totally useless.

Tam

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Love that reticulata Harmony. Grabbed some at 25% off. I still can't believe they are still there. Great plants!

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

OK, That's it. Gonna have to unwatch this thread!!! The last of the bulb planting will be done tomorrow. Have other projects to do before the ground freezes!!!! I am weak. So weak.

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

I admire your discipline.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

LOL Donna, It's not often that I exercize it!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I was happy to pick up a bunch of Narcissus that were on the expensive side when not on sale as well as some crocus, tulips, muscari, iris and a few other things. Nice list of things still available. I hope they still have the ones that I ordered, but I couldn't do the order until tonight. So the 400 bulbs we still have to plant has just doubled. Oops. Patti

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Way to go!

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Being as I always want practically everything, there's always plenty available when the big sale rolls around for me to go overboard. Having to get them in the ground so late is a problem some years, so I try to use restraint for that reason too. Geez, if I lived further south, I'd definitely wait till the sale every year! I tried to concentrate on small, easy to plant bulbs, but still had to pic up some Daffs, Hyacinths, and Eremurus.

Patti, I like to pick up a few pricier selections during the sale too. This year my treats that I've been eying for a few years are Narcissus 'By George' and 'Pineapple Prince'. I've also drooled for some time for Corydalis - solida 'Beth Evans' and finally broke down and ordered some- sure hope they still have some!

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

rats! I just got an email saying the iris reticulata Harmony was sold out. Oh well, will have to wait til next T/giving.

somewhere, PA

I just checked on my order (placed Sat night) 'cause I hadn't gotten confirmation.
They ran out of the iris reticulata 'harmony' for me too. :-(

Here's what I did get: (mostly small numbers 5, 10 except tulip
praestans 'shogun'. That one just is such a glorious orangey red
I couldn't resist.

N.'Bridal Crown'
N.'Double Smiles'
1T.'Angelique'
T.praestans 'Shogun'
Erythr.rev.'White
Hyacin orient. 'Miss Saigon'
Iris hist.'Lady Beatrix Stanley'
Iris reticulata 'Alida'
L.'Grand Cru' - Asiatic
L.'Garden Party' - Oriental

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Gemini_sage, You will love Pineapple Prince. I had it last year for the first time and it was lovely. I adore any reverse bi-color ones. I ordered By George at full price this summer as I HAD to have it. I picked up in the Sale these pricey ones: Dallas which was originally 5 for 23.50 as well as Riot that was 5 for 21.90, plus Sentinel at 5 for 25.45 As well as a few others. I envy your Beth Evans. I haven't had so much luck with corydalis.

Donnamack, I should have ordered more Iris reticulata as they are almost my favorite thing in the early spring. I have many different ones. My new favorite last year was Lady Beatrix Stanley, so Tammy you will love that one.

I did try Scilla - peruviana (originally 5/ $20.00) that I have been wanting to see if I could get it to come back in a warm spot. but not testing the water at full price. And I added more Tulipa - acuminata( originally 5 $15.00) which is my favorite little tulip, that is way too pricey so I add 3 to 5 a year if I can find them on sale. I want an army of them someday!

Here are some lousy pictures of Pineapple Prince and Tulipa Acuminata. Patti

Here is Iris hist.'Lady Beatrix Stanley' last year 03-22-09 -04-03-09.... It is a lovely thing. The best blue as far as I am concerned. Patti

It's wonderful to hear about all of the treasures that you are all buying. I was so tempted to get Hyacinth Chestnut Flower, but it's getting a bit late here. Spring and summer are going to be gorgeous for the people on this thread.

patti, your posting reminded me i got scilla peruviana also, just to try it out. I should have gotten another dwarf iris, but I guess too late now.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Nery, I think they've still got some other I.reticulata varieties, still worth a try.

Patti, are Pineapple Prince's blooms as big as they say? I'm a sucker for reverse bicolors too!

Donna, its a chance here too, I've often had to pot my sale bulbs and put them in the basement- really hoping I don't have to this year, but the pots of Hyacinths and Daffs were fantastic on the deck last spring.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

They had a nice proportion to height and bloom size. They lasted a nice long time, but I don't recall them being "huge" at all, but maybe mine were small for the first year, though I doubt that. But they were lovely. They seemed just right. Patti

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Ah, I'm sure I'm going to love them regardless :-) I love those with good substance that last and last.

Dallas, GA(Zone 7b)

I ordered my bulbs last Saturday (I was probably the 1st person to order once the 1/2 price showed up in Check Out)

They arrived today. Beautiful as always...

Tulips:
Mickey Mouse (I have always loved these)
Abba (because I'm a sucker for double tulips)
Yellow Babies (ditto above... but have never seen any small ones like this)
Princes Irena (I love the color and aroma; as with Mickey, I just have a special fondness for these)

Daffs:
Tapolino (easier to find room for little ones.. I have never tried these but they sound lovely)
Double Smiles (ditto above re small size; and I couldn't resist the promise of 'wonderful fragrance and multi-flowers'; the bulbs are really big; I'm surprised that these will be small)

Hyacinth
Sky Jacket (They didn't hae many blue ones left at 1/2 price and these look sort of interesting)

Anyway - I don't really have any place to plant these so will be sticking them in big pots here and there and everywhere - mostly where other bulbs and lilies and stuff already live. (DH warns the dogs and any human visitors 'don't bend over or she'll stick a bulb in your butt' :)

Also am using the unused refrigerator next door in the little mother-in-law apartment we built for my beloved mother-in-law who died October 3 at almost 89 years.. peacefully in her sleep... at home. She loved flowers and would be happy to know that Mickey and Irena and Double Smiles et al are coming to life in her little house.

Way to go, Jo. You know how to LIVE!

I just got my box today too. Of course its supposed to snow tomorrow... hopefully
I can get them in quickly. I'll be forcing some of the hyacinth so have about 100 to
plant.

Jo - sounds like she was loved.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Georgia Jo, I love sky Jacket. Here is is. I also love all your other choices too. I don't have Yellow smiles so I hope you post a picture of it in bloom. We pre-drilled about 400 holes as mine won't be here until Monday or Tues. That will be the last of them to plant this year. Patti

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

good morning all, Patti I love that "tight" look. It'll be a gazillion years b4 I accomplish that. My bulbs arrived Thurs & Fri and it will be Monday b4 I plant. Not many, 300 or so. Today, I'm enjoying the last of our once in a blue moon snowstorm. Looks like powdered sugar; ohhh, the tropicals I'm gonna have to replace....

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Patti, that is just beautiful. I love seeing your show each year.

I ordered quite a few bulbs from B & B this year. About two weeks ago my husband asked where i put the hyacinths. Oh, oh, forgot the hyacinths. I always like to have some in just a patch for cutting for the house. So I got a mixed group from Netherland Bulbs. Ended up being 50 for 30.00, then there was 20% off. The bulbs were really nice. 15/16 cm.

Dallas, GA(Zone 7b)

Patti - those Sky Jackets really are lovely. Glad I ordered them!

somewhere, PA

I got half of my B&B 50% off bulbs planted - the daffodils, hyacinth and
erythronium. I have 30 species tulips, 20 iris reticulata and 15 lilies to go.
I can't believe its snowing!

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Tammy, It's snowing like crazy down here too. OK, I didn't unwatch this thread and still have not ordered. Last of the bulbs got planted Wednesday. Now I'm trying to top dress the beds.

somewhere, PA

I can't believe what a storm we got! I almost didn't make it
home from my trip to town. Its right around freezing and we have
maybe 3" of snow. Yep... I should have started earlier! Maybe
it'll melt so I can finish tomorrow.

The sale runs 'til 12/7 folks! hahaha or should that be bwahahaha
(evil laugh)

Tam

Divernon, IL(Zone 5b)

I received 115 bulbs from there a couple of days ago and put them all in pots to force.

Divernon, IL(Zone 5b)

These are my haul from the half off sale, 18 pots. They'll be covered and wrapped in old comforters then placed in a covered stairwell connecting basement to outside.

Thumbnail by jmorth
Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Jmorth, how wonderful!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

jmorth, I should do that. What is the routine and timing on forcing them?

I will not order more online, but I might check at the garden shop to see if they have put their left overs on sale and pick up some tulips and hyacinth for forcing. I did a few a couple of years ago, but didn't know what I was doing, but they did bloom. I would love to know the proper way. I am thinking I could put them in a big ice cooler so they got cold for a few weeks ( how many?), but didn't freeze, but do you water them? Thanks Patti
