Thank You Donna, For posting that sale list. I have recently been reading about and dreaming about Lilies and having missed all the Lily sales for the year, I was badly in need of a "Lily Fix".

I saw the word "Lilium" on your list and my finger just clicked right on that link ;^)

It worked, I ordered "Red Hot" and "Touching", 5 bulbs each. Whew.... I am feeling so much better now. Also on the Dave's Marketplace I found "American Journey" this week. So I have a nice group of big showy lilies to look forward to, for next summer.

Thanks again for staying on top of those Sale Dates, I probably would have missed it, if it hadn't been for you.

Diana,

How sweet of you to let me know. I'll keep forwarding the info. I got my very first lilies from Brent and Becky years ago and they are still thriving in my gardens.

Donna

Madison, AL(Zone 7b)

Well, I had to go and look. Now I have ordered:

5 Lilium - regale Album'
5 Lilium - Red Hot
5 Lilium - Muscadet
100 Iris-Dwarf - Mixture

Should be interesting.

Winston-Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

Oh how I wish I could order more! I would get lots more. Never can have enough bulbs.

somewhere, PA

I m u s t r e s i s t ... I m u s t r e s i s t ....

I just got 550 bulbs delivered today from the Van Engelen sale!
But I've had my eye on those Red Hot lilies for a while...

I m u s t r e s i s t .... I m u s t r e s i s t ....

Winston-Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

LOL

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Give in!

Edited to say I did. 100 reticulata Harmony. On top of the order for WP Milner and Vie en Rose daffs earlier in the year.

OK... I can visit there just for research purposes

Tam

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Tammy, it's always good to be well informed. The cool part is, there is no $35 minimum. All three of my orders were under it.

somewhere, PA

ohh... I just love those little iris reticulata and my DH is bugging me to dig out
a section of my garden where they are now so that he can build up the
stone wall edging. (My cats and chickens are both digging in the earth and
dirt is getting pushed onto the steps adjacent to the planting bed).

Hmmm... I also think that lily 'garden party' would look lovely in a bed by
the road. This research is very beneficial... (to B&B 's business, I suspect)

Tam

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

I think they are very smart - and very good! I couldn't believe Harmony wasn't sold out, since mine have persisted for years and you can tuck them in everywhere. But that's how we get into trouble, isn't it "oh, I can find some little spot to tuck these..."

Dallas, GA(Zone 7b)

Tammy, I have a Garden Party. It's gorgeous.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

I know that I planted several Garden Party, but I think only one made it. I'll have to check my photos. Darn voles!!!

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Rude little cretins.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Yes, they are Donna!!! Where's you shovel???

Florence, MS(Zone 7b)

want a kingsnake? Just found one wintering near our water faucet....

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Do they eat voles?

I m u s t r e s i s t ... I m u s t r e s i s t ...

I tried but I couldn't resist! LOL Thanks for the heads up DonnaMack :) I was only going to order an Iris my DH had been looking for but slipped in a few others for the new area I'm planting :) I was tempted to order even more but I was trying to limit myself - ordered two Dutch Iris: Casablanca, Sky Beauty and three Lilies: Garden Party, Red Hot and Touching!! :) LOL Now I just have to get the soil ready so I can slip them in the ground when they arrive on Monday before DH knows! LOL

Florence, MS(Zone 7b)

Wow- I thought I was the only one hiding how many plants I bought from my DH... lol....

Kingsnakes are great vole killers; I flushed one out of a vole hole when tilling this summer. Unfortunately, they are only summer hunters. Our cats also bring up pieces-parts of vile voles, but there doesn't seem to be that much of a dent in their population, darn it....

Susan Mc, aka zonkel

Southeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Doesn't Brent & Becky's usually do a half price sale around Thanksgiving?

P.S. I love kingsnakes! They got rid of the ground squirrels that were tunneling under our patio.

somewhere, PA

Well... I just finished planting the 550 35% off Van Engelen bulbs.
Since those are planted, I think I can order more guilt free - right?

Tam

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

I am drooling over the 50 iris reticulata that just arrived via Fed Ex. They are at 50% bigger than any I've seen, and I've ordered them from three companies. Fabulously wrapped.

Rcn, I'm happy your happy. Instead of gloomy gardeners bemoaning the approach to winter, we have these wicked activities that make us smile.

Tammy, I think you CERTAINLY should be rewarded for being so diligent! You are an inspiration and model to us all. And what better way than to buy more bulbs?

McGlory I'll bet you are right about the 50% off sale. I normally don't buy bulbs from them this late in the year, but I put myself on their email list, resulting in the delicious info with which I tempt others. So I don't know whether this is in addition to or instead of the 50%. I'll bet they are being smart business people and getting us to buy as many as possible before dicounting them further. We'll see.

And Susan, I could pretend to be grossed out by vole bits but, after al, I'm the one who went over them with a shovel (100% batting average, let me tell you!)

Out to pop in my bulbs before my husband get home! Good thing he shops a lot too and this box is so small.

Donna

Southeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Oh, Tam, if you're done planting your 550 bulbs, the only possible reward for your labor is to order more bulbs! DonnaMack, where did you get your good-looking I. reticulata?

somewhere, PA

lol ... you ARE good at this enabling stuff Donna. :-)

somewhere, PA

McGlory - I cross posted with you. I guess its unanimous then, I'll need to
order those bulbs I was contemplating. I put them in my shopping cart but
didn't hit the checkout button, realizing I had 550 to plant. But now...I'm all
done planting. Its been just a glorious fall and I need a good reason to be
outside to enjoy it. :-)

Tam

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

McGlory, I got them from Brent and Becky's 25% sale going on this week on selected bulbs. I followed the link (see above or go through Garden Watchdog) and couldn't believe the drarf iris Harmony was still available. I've always felt I didn't put in enough, and when I saw the price for 50, I bit. They are very, very nice. I find that B&B sales mean sales on first rate bulbs, not seconds, not dried out nubbins.

Just put them in. Fabulous. Those little guys go in so quickly.

Tammy dear, there are worse vices!

D

Southeast, NE(Zone 5a)

I love Brent and Becky's! Was disappointed one time with a few summer bulbs, but they made it right and I've not hesitated to order again. I've gotten hundreds of tulips from them, and plenty o' daffs too.

I looked on their site for the ones you got since I've never gotten iris from them. Very pretty! In fact, have never tried Dutch Iris or the dwarf kind like you got either! I'd hate to think I'm missing out on something. Wondering if they'll have their 50% off sale....

Also wondering if Tammy has succumbed to our urging yet. :-)

somewhere, PA

aaaahhhh noooooo... the special only ran to yesterday. Rats.
Tam

Southeast, NE(Zone 5a)

There is hope if you and your weather can hang in there! I found this thread from 2007: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/793988/

And this one from 2008: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/926196/

2007 was the year I ordered $60 worth after the 50% discount, and while they shipped them immediately we got snow and ice in the meantime. Gamble, gamble, gamble. I'll probably gamble again this year.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Tammy, you are too funny. I still have about 600 yet to plant. I did plant some of those Harmony Iris. Mostly working on Tulips and Daff's now.

If B & B does a 50% off sale, I will get some more lilies. Always have more time for lilies.

somewhere, PA

You have beautiful weather to do the planting Stormyla.

I have a number of pots of tulips in the spare refrigerator.
(I actually bought it for all the seeds I scarify as well as to
force bulbs.) But I haven't done bulbs (except amaryllis) in
a few years.

Yeah - you never can have enough lilies.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I too am Chomping at the Bit for the final big sales, if they have them this year. We have less than 500 bulbs still to plant in Nantucket of around 3000, but I did just happen to neeeeeeeeeed some more for up here in Vt. We are having some lovely mild weather, just a tiny frost this morning, so I will plant the hundred or so I got yesterday as soon as it warms up a bit.

Good thing we are leaving today or I might neeeeeed more as we lost a huge tree this fall which has created a nice new spot for lots more bulbs here in Vt. The selection was not great at the nurseries as they had pretty much sold out. I did pick up a little pile of tulips on the floor and will plant them in an orphan's bed and she sold them to me at 1/2 off. I couldn't leave them behind to get tossed in the compost heap.

I now have a list of where I still could use a some big drifts of bulbs in Nantucket that can be gotten cheaper than 35% off. I would love some more crocus and reticulated iris as as well as a mass of one narcissus for a special spot. I will be watching Touch of Nature, Brent and Becky and Van Engelen like a hawk as well as here on DG for any news of the final sales.

I hope we have someone willing to do a bulb coop this winter as they have been great for my bulb addiction. Though my ground is pretty saturated with bulbs. Patti

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

Ok, I'm ready for the after Thanksgiving sale....

I went to Brent & Beckys page to see if there is any news of it....

Can't see anything posted there.

By the way, what do those little red hearts mean? They are next to some of the bulb listings. I don't see anything down at the bottom that explains it.

Anyone know?

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Yes , they are the staff favorites. It doesn't look like they have much left for a sale. Sad, but watching. Happy t-day all. Patt

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

The red hearts mean they're B&B personal favorites, and I pay attention to those when choosing. If they give 'em high marks, I usually am very pleased.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

They've typically got their 50%off sale up the day after Thanksgiving, but I'm not even seeing a sale of any kind noted. I hope they're going to do it this year!

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

I suspect that they are pretty happy with the response to 25%, but let's cross our fingers. And yes, I pay attention to the ones they love too. They usually have the combination of beauty and staying power.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

I just clicked at there is a posting in their masthead that says 50% off remaining but when I got my two items and tried to c/o, it didn't calculate a 50% off. Their office is closed
