I just placed a Merricrismis to me order with LeeVally
Trench spade for digging in small places.
Longhandles grass sheers
Long handled weeder.
What have you ordered for 2009_Part 10-likely the last part!
Thanks for sharing Onewish. : ) They are very cute. I have tried annual snaps a couple times and have never had great results so far. Maybe I'll have better luck with the perennial ones. I did get some annual ones too. I think my problem in the past was not direct sowing them, which I am going to try and do this year. I had okay results with some I tried this year, but they were floppy and not quite what I thought they would be. They had reddish foliage - which I noticed a different hybrid had advertised as having. The ones I ordered were suposed to red, but looked more burgundy red to me.
My daughters love picking flowers and I always see snaps listed as a kid fave.
Actually...I had those growing and reseeding here, til a new manager took over and yanked all the flowers and forbid me from gardening--she's gone now...
Nice snaps everyone. I need a new transplant shovel and link to LeeValley reminded me. Bookmarked and will order next year. I also have a long list working on the saved orders at Bluestone. Only order I have actually sent so far is for echinacea 'Marmalade','Maui Sunshine', and 'Tangerine Dream', ordered from great garden plants. Never ordered from them before, hope it works out okay.
I've never ordered from them either---let us know how they are! Jo Ann, I do the same thing---order the garden stuff, a present to me---although my brother did say he had garden stuff in mind for me---he's the only one in the family who knows what I want!
If they get garden stuff its usually sheers, pruners or trowel,I am overloaded with those.
This way I get what I really want.
I have a wish to convert the air tires on my garden cart to solid ones, the tires are always flat when I wnt to use the thing.I wonder if they come solid?
I like the thin spade. Its really versitle I might be adding more Lilies and this is a good hole digger.

Ge, are your snaps perennial for you? Or do they reseed themselves?
I think they reseed. They arent very tall, none grow taller than 20 inches
JoAnn those snaps are perennial... and some of my annual ones have returned but only many... mostly re-seeds .. but once in a while I spot last years plant that came back.. I love Lee Valley & Bluestone ordered from both quite a few times
Now the ground is trying to freeze & never got the 5 bulbs of pernnial glads planted. Oh well, they were free.
Allison! Do the perennials re seed then? They come up in the flagstones and the lawn.
Ours puts out little plants everyspring.I transplanted the colors I want to areas where they look best, hope I see them bigger and better in May.
they should reseed ... I usually find snaps popping up here and there.. spread around by the critters .. they were one of the first things I planted when we bought the house I always let the plants be in fall... collect some seed and leave the rest
me too
I'm glad they reseed, that was something I am trying to add to my garden. : ) I figure that the reseeders will fill in the bed. The only hard part will be, not mulching so they can reseed. I always mulched my beds heavy in the beginning.
Iris are those the byzantinus? Mine took 3 years before I saw 3 plants bloom out of the 50I had planted. I don't even think all 50 grew foliage? They haven't been very impressive for me. I have a picture of one.
I chose this picture so you you could see how puny they were. lol
You have to play where's waldow and look up in the right hand corner. ; )
ha ha thats funny Meridith
That type only bloomed one yr for us. These are yellow & named Boone. Schafer/ Sacks have good luck with them, Jan says. Just didn't get to them unfortunatly. 'Waldo' not as spectacular is it. What is the dark leafed plant at the front on the picture?
Ha ha they are so tiny but I was still happy to see them after waiting 3 years (and thinking they weren't there).
The purple plants are Heuchera, I'm not sure which exactly because I bought them at HD on sale a while back. I looked up my journalentry on them and I have them entered as Palace Purple. But I just guessed http://davesgarden.com/community/journals/viewentry/109138/
Never tried per. glads, but I'm not going to buy so many annual glads this year---I ran out of room to plant them---of course, if I had known how awful my veggie garden was going to be, I would have ripped out the veggies, & planted flowers.
I felt the same way about my veggie garden this year. Bad year for them.
FYI Lee Valley has free shipping until Jan. 3. If Christmas cash is burning a whole in your pocket and you need garden tools, you can save on the shipping. I ordered my transplant spade, border fork and long handle bulb planter. http://www.leevalley.com/garden/page.aspx?c=2&p=56798&cat=2,44813,56834&pb=1#pb
Nice. Wish they would suspend the NY tax!
I ordered the narrow spade, figured it could double as a bulb planter.
I also got the standup grass sheers and the grampas weeder. The family thinks I'm nuts.Santa gave them to me.
I got a gift certificate to Bluestone but haven't ordered yet..........
I didnt get certificates this year.
How can you keep yourself from going nuts.
I'm saving some mad money and heaping it all together with the certificates.
Use your new lens yet, Celeste?? I bought a new wide-angle one but have not opened it yet.
JoAnn that sounds like a great idea. I need some of those shears too. Maybe next year Santa will bring some here.
I got a gift cert. for the local nursery. Usually use it for planting mix and a big bag of Rosetone. Also a few pretty plants jump in the wagon too.
Nice to get one for Bluestone. You have good control, I just sent my order to them. I was worried if I waited much longer I would just add more and more stuff. It is already too long even after some editing. LOL
Here is the list:
agastache 'Black Adder'
helenium 'Mardi Gras'
siberian iris 'Caesar's Brother'
nepeta 'Snowflake'
lavender 'Lavance Purple'
sedum 'Angelina'
echinacea 'Prairie Spendor'
geum 'Totally Tangerine'
viola 'Chantreyland'
sambuca 'Southerland Gold'
I will be interested in hearing about all the goodies you order. What fun, a shopping spree with no bill at the end, nice!
Victor we are looking forward to some panoramic shots. It will be terrific. Start practicing okay.
I will use the sheers for cutting dead plants in the fall.
No bending is what sounds great to me.
i received some certificates and making a list:) davidsans and topiary gardens
I was given a 'hori hori' knife. could use one for a friend. does anyone know who carries them?
Yes, yes.
hi iris - i got one similar from gardeners edge
http://www.gardenersedge.com/item.cgi?item=4750com&cat=Gardening&subcat=Hand%20Tools
FW has a new redbud called 'Little Woody'. Not sure I would want to tell people I had just gotten one.
Thank you both for the knife infornmation investigating for Jumper 2's birthday. she has a nasty grass which she wants to get rid of.
I believe a friend gave Holly one of the gardner's knives a couple of years ago. We found it so useful we bought another that looks very much like the one from Gardners Edge. Ric
If we are ignoring Victor, please excuse the muffled chortle in the background. Hope you can find a knife for your friend Ric, looks vicious enough to take care of any nasty weed or grass.
So btw Victor, did you? Hmmmm?
joann i did not see the link before i had posted - i almost bought my japanese lanterns from them until i found another place that had better pricing with similiar quality
