Well, 2009 is almost over, though I'm sure some are still ordering things for the remainder of this year. The last thread was getting really long, so I thought I would start and new, and perhaps final, thread. We are coming from here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1017823/
I have not ordered anything lately, though back on Oct. 13th I did get some things at a plant auction that my garden club puts on every Oct. I spent $52 and got some nice things. One item was I think a snowbell tree? I'm not sure. Also got 2 pots of deep, shiny green pacysandra, a hardy water lily, some dwarf, hardy cat tails, a Sheffield mum and some other things I can't think of right now.
The weekend prior to that I went to Kennedy's Country Gardens in Scituate, MA, one of my favorite places, to get things on sale. I got a Tomato Soup echi, a pink double anenome, a Solar Flare baptisia and something else I can't recall right now. Still have not planted anything except for the echi. Been busy getting other things done, and then I got sick. Hope I will be well enough to get stuff planted soon. I lost a lot of things in pots last winter because I didn't get them planted.

What have you ordered for 2009_Part 10-likely the last part!
You've bought some nice things, Karen! Love the Sheffield mums----mine did well this year, and are still blooming. I'm not ordering yet, but when the catalogs come in, I have some serious buying to do to fill up a fairly large bed that I dug up.
I want to do some DL buying for spring, but will have to wait on that. I have my eyes on some rather expensive ones, but can only order very few.
Karen
i have an EXCELLENT source that let me know santa bought a gift certificate for me at Davidsans Maples - even reserved a couple trees for spring delivery - what a guy!
Lucky you, Bill! I need someone to buy me some gift certificates to daylily growers. I wouldn't mind one for Davidson's, either. I could use a few new JM's. I only have two. I want that one that Jo Anne got with the green bark.

:) Karen- I am Santa
LOL! Silly me! Guess I'll have to be Santa, too!

I was looking at new tree's for the back-forty and came across this.....

Wonder if he owns it?? I wish I could, I love crepes!
Hee hee. It's one I don't have!
I am so jealous. My back forty means forty feet!
I wish I could grow some of those lovely lavender colored Crapemyrtle's . All the ones I like of any color seem to be Z6 or higher. Sigh
How about in a sheltered area? I believe the roots will survive zone 5, but you would have to cut it down like buddleia. But in a micro-climate the wood might make it.
They have one or 2 that are z5 and one z4 but the flowers are not as pretty as the z6 & 7's!! LOL
Just being picky
I would give it a shot. Can always do a pot too.
be sure to check freight costs from sooner - they are as much as the tree in many instances
Bought most of mine from a place that's no longer retail. Ecolage is good too.
I really love the color on this one!!

Stop tempting me, Pixie! I've been thinking about a crape as well---which ones are for zone 5?
Try it Robin!
OK---you talked me into it, LOL.
Robin, I started looking on this page and got very, very carried away!

You'll get to the crape's eventually!! lol
I don't like your page........z7,8,9!
Don't believe it. I have a few on there and never lost the wood.
Really?
Yes. And last year we got pretty cold. I think -5 or -6.
Thank you both for the info----I think I'm going to get Tonto, which is hardy to zone 5, & I'm liking the color.
I have it. Great color!
Ha ha, it figures you do!!
Happy to hear that!
I love Dynamite
Hardy in zone 5?
I will be waiting to hear how these do in our climate. They are very tempting, and on the ever growing long list for the future new sun location when DH gets done with his tree cutting task. I like the Dynamite too. Whitcomb is a name that runs in my family. Must be fate. A good excuse at least right?
Well I can't resist a sale, specially a local vendor. Picked up three cornus 'Arctic Sun' and one acer palmatum 'Okushimo' from Avant Gardens. Hope I can stick them in before the soil hardens up. Anyone have experience with these?

i have okushimo in a container and hope to get it in the ground next year - it is suppose to get about 10 - 12' - has interesting cupped leaves - i would try and over winter it in a container in a garage if possible - i had mine outside and buried in a container and lost some branches although that could have been due to the ice storm.
those artic sun's look nice!
btw patti the name okushimo mean's "salt and pepper" - and there are reports that it can get a large as 26'.
That might be a good idea if it is small, I could keep in the garage until next spring. I went there looking for the 'Arctic Sun' and they got me for the JM. I am a really easy mark when it is lousy weather out and it just gets worse the deeper into winter we get. Salt and Pepper, I like it. The spot I have for the JM is okay if it gets that tall. I suspect however by the time it gets that big , it will be somebody else's problem.

So they sent my order even though their last shipping day had passed . They arrived today in good shape. The dogwoods are about 18" tall and the JM is 5' tall. I think the JM will get planted tomorrow if I'm lucky. Not sure if the dogwoods will get stuck in or wait for spring. I keep changing my mind now where I want them. They have nice color too.
Lucky we had such a mild Nov.---I'll bet you can't wait to see them with leaves!
Well I did get the JM planted today. Mother nature will water it in well tomorrow. I hope it lives and you are correct Robin I can't wait to see the leaves this spring and even more so the fall color. It was a nice day to plant earlier today while the sun was still shining down giving enough warmth to the air. I was worried the soil would be too wet after all the rain and clouds, but a couple dry days was enough to make it digable.
