Does H golomcoina have the same scent as H cummingiana?
November Flowers
Tropic, that is a very nice plant. I think I have H golomcoina, but without the "Los Banos" name attached. Is it the same plant that Christina talks about here:
http://www.myhoyas.com/golamcoana.htm
Is the flower really yellow or white like she describes. Also, does the spelling of the plant curently have an "i" in it? I bought mine from David Liddle in 2008 and it has done really well, but has not flowered as of yet. The my Hoyas site calls it "one of the most boring Hoyas" she has ever grown, but I really like mine and can't wait for it to flower - hope the flower looks half as good as your picture.

Doug, I bought mine at the markets with the label "Hoya Los Banos". It was here on DG that it was identified as Hoya golamcoina "Los Banos". A discussion ensued:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1010497/
Just checked IPNI and the current name is Hoya golamcoana with a reference to it having been called Hoya golamcoiana. I'm adjusting my records now.
"one of the most boring Hoyas" I've no idea of what she means by that.
Here's a close up, the peduncle has 12 flowers which is pretty average.
Just took a photo of the whole plant. Because mine are outdoors it's a bit hard to get it against a neutral background. This one has been flowering frequently with several peduncles since I bought it. In this flowering event the earlier flowers are falling but new peduncles are still forming. Maybe because we're in our hottest time it going to flower constantly, we'll see. During the winter there were gaps between flowering events.
Looking at the photo on the Myhoyas site the leaves are rounded whereas mine are pointier. I'm no expert so can't say which is golamcoana, or whether both are. But the growing conditions for the Myhoyas plant and mine are vastly different. Don't know if that has any impact.
Oh Wow! Tropic, that close up shot is stunning! That's the perfect bloom to be called "Porcelain Flower" because it really does look like porcelain! Another photo worthy of framing!
I just googled for Hoya golamcoana and this site popped up: http://hoyaworld.com/My%20Hoya%20Collection-new.html# Scroll down the page, it looks like Christine's with white blooms.
Also found a photo at this site: http://www.mypos.se/hoya/g.html
They both look like MyHoyas golamcoana
Just a beautiful plant Tropic, and you are right the leaves are much more pointed on yours. It clearly looks like a different plant than mine or the one on Christina's site. The flower is like Lin said "porcelain" - very nice.

Oh no!! Not another NOID in my garden!!!!!!
Oooh, Oooh ... if you don't like that Noid, you can ship it to Florida, U.S.A. ^_^
LOL, I would love to have a noid like that in my garden, as I'm sure everybody here would! It is stunning!
Oh Lin, I couldn't take advantage of you like that. You're just too nice a person. No, I'll just have to keep it and suffer in silence. ;O)
^_^
Don't suffer, its your puzzle for now! What Hoya is it? Humm.... But that is such a lovely flower....
Lovely!
Thanks Lin. This is the plant I got from DL earlier this year. It's never grown at all, except for putting out these flowers every few weeks. The flowers only last one day, and I've never noticed any fragrance. Not even with a flower half up my nostril, LOL.
Nice looking flower. But seriously, "half way up your nostril"? Why not go all the way down the Eustachian Tube?
Do you think it might help? I could check if it's making any sounds as well.
You guys are funny!!! Here in NZ with not a hoya in sight!!!! Alas.
My sp. Kapit 'borneo' blooms alot too. I love it.
The only person who could call any hoya boring is Ms. Burton. She must grow a lot of exciting ones to make that judgement. When I visited her, her plants were pathetic.
.... cheers.
So do tell Carol, whereabouts in NZ?
Always wanted to visit NZ. Geologically amazing from what Ive read and seen
Looks like H. imperialis var. rauchii. They can bloom all shades of red/burgundy -
Located in NZ on The Bay of Plenty in an area called Welcome Bay just inland from Tauranga. Last weekend we were on the Coromandal Penn. where Capt. Cook landed...and where the first polynesians first landed in NZ... BOP is very mild climate...Kiwis (fruit) are grown here...all kinds of fruit grown here (stawberries in season, as well as Avos, etc.(). It is early spring....weather in the lower to mid 70s... NZ is wonderful: NO SNAKES...fields covered with fuzzy white lambs and dairy cows... very innovative in the food world... can't be happier!!! Beginning to miss my hoyas....
:~)
I was in that area of NZ some years back, liked it as well. But I spent more time to the north of Auckland. The Land of the Long White Cloud is a very nice part of the planet.
Australia & New Zealand are places I'd love to see, for sure! Want to trade seasons, tropicbreeze? LOL
Enjoy, Carol. Your Hoyas will be fine until you get back. Sheesh, you're lucky going to one paradise and returning to another...
actually, i think i bought this one from you carol. LOL thanks for the id! have fun in nz. it's a beautiful place and the people are quite pleasurable.
thanks christine...hoping you have blooms beyond belief! : )
well then, yours should be on its way to blooming happily C. : ) we do have lots more heat here though that helps push the plants and a greenhouse extends the growing season...
Yes...I love this gentle land! I find older people are not invisible here... I feel older people totally invisible in the US...
That reminds me. I've got to get myself organised and go out and find H australis ssp oramicola. DL told me they're about 50 kms from here.
This wekend's gone, next weekend I have to work, hopefully the weekend after. Afterall, how difficult can it be to find a Hoya in the jungle? Carol!!!!!
The two of them...oramicola and rupicola have the MOST devine fragrance...one of them is like gently baby powder...the best of all of them, I think.
Just hope I have more luck finding it than I did on that 'wild goose chase' you sent me on looking for Hoya gigas in the mountain jungles of Papua New Guinea earlier this year ;O)
HO HO!!! But I did give you the 'bug'...didn't I?
For sure, but thankfully it wasn't malaria, LOL.
