I loved the movie, cos I wanted to kick "Dad' in the arse at one point, but he came around. LOL
DonnieBrook's Subtropical Adventures!
You knew he would :-) His wife had the patience of Job!
Yes she did!! Todd was an angel walking on earth, I know, I have one of them. ^_^
Yes!! He was an inspiration that changed the whole town. You said it..an angel.
Loved that movie....I think it might have been the 'movie heard round the world'...
DB, dahlin'....hope all is well at your house.
Along with a blooming rhody, I now have a miniature rose in full bloom! What is this weather coming to, my plants want to know?
my wife wanted to see that show last night - unfortunately it bumped up against dexter - only two shows left this season and the plot thickens!!
I missed the movie. :-( Was at work having the night from He__! My employers need to look up the definition of sedentary status!(still on disability from the fall I took at work)
Karen--Pork chop and the shelter thing in the movie is amazing karma! I don't know your situation, does you sister need to be in agreement before you adopt? If it were I, and I had the means, I'd be seeking to bring Pork Chop home! ^_^
No dvr, Bill??
Forgot about that movie--they will show it next yr also I bet if it got good reviews.
no dvr
Yeah, that was such a good movie. I would love to bring Pork Chop home, but I think everyone in the household has to be in agreement for me to adopt him. I'm not sure. One of the questions on the application was if everyone was in agreement. I just don't want bad feelings between us. Sometimes I don't feel like my life is my own. If I threaten to move out, the my sis puts the guilt trip on me cause she'll be left to take care of Dad on her own. Besides, I couldn't do that to Dad. I feel I have an obligation to him. Maybe I should wait till his dog passes on before I get another one. Buffy is 12, and probably won't live many more years, though his health is good right now. Lucky dog has never had Lyme disease. Patches had it.
Anyhow, maybe you guys could pray for me that my sis will change her mind. She says I shouldn't get another dog cause it will cost me more money in vet bills and I won't have as much to go on vacations. Well, it's my money, so I don't see why she cares how I spend it. She wastes a lot of money on scratch tickets. I never buy those things. A lottery ticket now and then is all. Anyhow, if I buy things like worm medicine on 1800PetMeds, then I will save a lot of money in vet expenses.
Karen
Gosh I love seeing all of you pals posting on this thread....it makes me feel like I'm still in the middle of things instead of so far away! Thanks for coming to visit and keep me in the loop of the chatting!!! (sending a smooshy smacker to you all!)
Karen - I feel so bad that you are constrained about adopting a needful dog. I will definitely say a prayer and take a walk to the River to get you in the rotation for the sunset wish!!!
We're just doing great here with the babies. My son left this morning after a week's visit, so I'm missing him, but we had such a great visit and it was terrific for him to get to know the puppies and bond with them in their youth. He adored them both and was a big help in taking them out and spending quality time with them. He was excited that he'll see his own dog, Donnie, tonight when he arrives home.
At some point I'll be posting some more pics soon.....gotta feed the pups and take them to the River now......more later........
Louise
Isn't it awful the way we miss our pets? I couldn't wait to get home from FL to see them 2 years ago...this year we'll only be gone for 5 weeks, but I know I'll be worrying about them the whole time! Glad those 2 cuties of yours are doing well, Louise, & glad that you had a nice visit with your son.
I know just what you mean, Marilyn! We'll be going to Colorado for 5 days next Thursday and I am feeling some stress about leaving the girls just when we are getting them comfortable with a routine and house-training, etc. They are at a crucial stage in their training, and I'm afraid it will be all screwed up by our being away. No option but to hope for the best. I think my niece will definitely have her hands full by herself! Two on one....pretty tough with these little customers!!! LOL She works full time, so we have a neighbor coming in mid-morning and mid-afternoon to take them out. All fingers crossed please!!!
Whaaa! I'll be leaving Shadow and the cats for 10 days over Christmas. Lucky for them, DH will be here to take care of them, but I know they'll miss me. I'll definitely miss them!
Glad you had a great time with your son, Louise. He sounds like a terrific guy. I'd love to meet him sometime.
Hi Harper! Ten days away from your fur kids is a very long time, and I know you will miss them as much as they will miss you! I hope we both can just focus on having a good time and not let missing them so ruin the vacation! Hope your holiday trip is just great!
And yes, my son is special and I'm very proud of him. I'd like for you to meet him too.
One of the women in my art class has been bringing her 10 month old toy poodle to the studio, because she can't bear for him to be home alone for the afternoon---he's the cutest little guy, reddish brown, so she named him Roux.
Marilyn - does Roux behave well during the class? How does she keep him in check?
Cool! Wish I could bring my dog everywhere. He's a poodle too. Maybe I could train him.
What art class are you taking Marilyn?
I've been taking botanical art for the past 5 years---it's very nitpicky---you are supposed to be as realistic as possible---usually there are from 5-7 women in the class---we vent a lot! Roux usually stays in his little bed with a stuffie, but then he makes the rounds, & we all pick him up & smooch him---he's really cute!
Oh boy! Oh boy! Oh boy!! I'm enrolling in a Botanical Art and Illustration certificate program! I'm used to tightly detailed stuff from doing carpet renderings for 12 years. I'd love to see your stuff! Roux sounds like a great classroom companion.
Louise, oh, I just want to hug that little fluff!
Louise, thanks for your prayers. I'll pray for you, too, that things will be well with your 2 sweeties while you're gone for those 5 days. I know just how you feel. I tell you, when I go on a trip, I miss my Patches something awful, but I just can't take her places when I'm flying. If I was driving it'd be a different story. She is a good traveler. I traveled cross country with her back in 2002, when she was almost a year old. We were on the road for 2 wks, and she did great. Was really quiet at the hotels, too. She's always been quiet.
What a cutie that little fur ball is! Glad to hear you had a such a good visit with your son.
Marilyn, that's so nice that lady in your class gets to bring her dog with her. I wish I could bring Patches to work with me, but it just wouldn't work out. Fortunately, Patches is just fine alone in the house while my sister and I and niece are at work and Dad's at his day program. Both her and Dad's dog Buffy are great in the house alone. We never have to worry about them.
Karen
I used to take Phoebe to work....We both loved that! She never took the course, but she was definitely a therapy dog. Louise, I wanna SQU-weeeeze that fluffball! Prolly good for her that she's several states away from me-LOL!
Isn't she sweet---oh, I just want to squeeze her, too! Harper, you get to see some of my botanicals tomorrow!
PV, Marilyn and Harper.......Squeezable she is!!! And her sister, Carli, is just as much so! They love to be cuddled. The first order of business every morning when I get up is some face time and cuddling one on one. I take one and Hank takes the other and they are so snuggly before they are fully awake. Then we switch and they are just great for most of the day. And then....they have a "wild hour" late in the afternoon when they want to just run in circles, even with the 2 walks they already get! Today was quite a scene in the front yard again. Hank was napping and so I decided to take them both out so their play barking wouldn't wake him up. Well, they proceeded to wrap me in their leashes again - one flying around me one way and the other flying the other way. Too bad that one of the neighbors who has volunteered to let them out twice a day happened to be passing by during the scene, along with some other neighbors. She said, "Are you sure you can't take them with you on the plane?" LOL! I appreciate your prayers for them, Karen, as I really am worried about them and wish I weren't going just now. But....those grandkids are a pretty important reason to keep our commitment. Prayers for all who are caring for them as well, please.
Harper, I'm excited for you with the botanical art and illustration cert. program. That sounds like so much fun. You and Marilyn will have a good time comparing your work. Maybe Shadow can join your class!
I can't wait Marilyn!!! Thanks Louise! I dunno about Shadow. When he's at a party with me around strangers, he's well behaved and quiet, but wants to be in my lap.
Phoebe, when I first got Patches I had a job delivering auto parts. I used to take Patches with me, which was great, as she didn't have to stay at home by herself all day. She really loved coming along, and I loved having her with me.
Louise, I will surely pray also for the people who will be taking care of your 'kids' while your away.
Karen
Thank you so much, Karen. The wild children are quite mellow today....maybe they'll postpone their puppy pranks tendencies and act like big girls while the sitters are here. Frankly though, I love their boisterous side, because it shows how healthy and full of fun they are, and it is more than balanced by their sweetness and smarts. But it is difficult to go it alone when both of them are roaring for a bit, especially if you are getting drenched in the rain and unable to hold an umbrella! LOL
Here's a close-up shot of the stromanthe plants in my new shade garden. I really love them
These are the new climbing purple bougainvillea my son bought us. The purple isn't as faded as it looks in this shot. They are actually a very deep, rich purple. We moved the yellow mandevilla vines from this trellis because those took over the whole garden area while we were away in the summer. These will grow at a slower rate and remain manageable while we are away.
NICE!
Guess Hank is feeling better since he's juicing oranges.
very nice!
I like the colors on that phoebe! What is it?
Louise I have major zone envy not to mention how magnificent that bougainvillea is!!
Very cool, PV!!! Celeste, it is the same stromanthe that I have planted in my Cavendish Banana shade garden. Yowzer! I didn't know mine would get that tall! They may not make it through the hot summer here though. And yes, the bougainvillea are really pretty!
Jen - Yes, Hank is finally feeling back to normal. I'm very happy about that. We celebrated our 21st anniversary yesterday. We had planned a nice lunch outing on Boca Grande (Gasparilla Island), but it was too steamy and humid to risk leaving the girls in the car, so we just did a local place for supper with the girls in the car. Hank gave me some really pretty peach roses too. It was fun driving through downtown with the beautiful white lights on the way there and home.
3G - no juicing yet.....but soon!! They aren't quite ripe yet, and that tree is not doing well this year. The oranges are pretty small still. We need to plant another tangelo soon, because it will take a few years until it has a lot of fruit.
Gasparilla??! Sounds like one scary animal!
Victor - that island is now over-run with large iguanas. That's where the coast guard checkpoint used to be that checked all boats and confiscated the iguanas brought illegally into the country. It appears they just let them go and they have now infested the area.
