Karen - they did a python kill this week, and all I could think about was how glad I was not one of the ones who had to find them! I would really freak out!!!
DonnieBrook's Subtropical Adventures!
CNN had a artical about the problems with released pets.
I had no idea there were gaiters in GA Maypop
Love the puppies, Louise.....yayyy for you!
Kiss a lissszard for me while you are there, Maypop...I love the tiny green ones.
Thinking about visiting my daughter in Lauderdale in January....might be a fun time to be there.
There are gators in S. GA Jo Ann. Have you ever heard of the Okefenokee swamp? Not as far north as Atlanta though. I'm home in Miami right now. Confusing, I know.
Sharon, You'll have beautiful weather in January. DH says lips that touch lizards...
Laurel
Sharon - if you have a way to cross the state (with your daughter perhaps?) in January, perhaps it would work out that you could join us in our mini-RU here? Or come over for a visit any old time if you are not here when the others can come!
I've done a lot of things in my day, but I can't say I've ever kissed a lizard! Now, baby Bichons are a different story!! LOL Our girls have been such fun little sweethearts! More photos soon. We have company tomorrow and after that we will be more sane here. Hank just told me that he was going to his crate to lie down for a bit. LOL Everyone is sleeping here except me. I've had so little DG time since the girls came, so I'm having to lurk a lot for a few days. I'll get back up to par when the girls go to college! he he he.
Louise---those girls are little beauties---Nothing smells as sweet as a new puppy! We usually have had 2 dogs at a time as well---they are great company for one another---Doug & I will be in FL from 12/30 to 2/2---middle of Jan. might be a nice time for an RU.
I'd love to see a photo of Hank in his crate! But I know just what he means---my 2 were wrestling just now, & I had to stop them, they were so boisterous.
Glad it works for you Louise.
Louise, I'm actually open for travel dates in Jan. and Feb., and I see that Marilyn will be there throughout the month of Jan, so I can plan my trip to arrive in mid-Jan. This will be fun! Know any DG people in FL you could invite to the RU?
Louise, I would not mind at all looking for the pythons. I have had a pet snake before, but nothing huge like the ones up there. Mine was a ball python, and they get about 5' at the largest, from what I read. I would like to have another one someday, but I just decided I did not have room for it at my Dad's house. If I got my own house someday I would get one. Nothing huge, just another ball python. They do make pretty good pets, but certainly you can't compare them to dogs. Most people don't understand those who like snakes. I have always liked catching snake since I was little. Good thing we don't have poisonous ones around here. I still catch garter snakes in my garden now and then. I like holding them for a bit and admiring them, then I let them go and do their thing. I found a lot of baby ones in my gardens this year. My ball python I gave to someone who had one of his own already, as well as a few other kinds of snakes. I certainly can't see ever getting a snake that will eventually get big enough to kill a human.
No lizard kissing for me! I wouldn't even kiss my snake! Reptiles can carry salmonella.
Karen
Kiss a lizard is an old saying, much like kissing a frog so he'll turn into a prince.
"Kiss a lizard in the spring,
He will then your true love bring."
Never heard that one before.
Okay, Louise, I checked out prices for a trip for my Dad and me for Jan. 10-15 through Priceline.com. I thought the price of $760 for the both of us, with airfare, hotel and rental car, was pretty good. I will have to get money from Dad for his share, then I can book it. I'm getting excited about this!
Karen
My sister and I are planning a trip to Maine in July'10
I'm sure we can manage that, Jo Ann---Karen, that is a good price---it's costing us over 800 just to fly, but we had to choose nonstop because of Doug, & times in the middle of the day to coordinate with the shuttle that goes from Orlando to the Villages. Plus I think fares are more costly from Bradley.
Well, I booked the trip this morning. Yeah, the flight is not non-stop. We have to switch planes in OH. But a small price to pay for such a cheap cost, and Dad doesn't mind. I have to go the cheapest way possible. We are staying at the Candlewood Suites Fort Meyers-Sanibel Gateway, and have a rental car for the week. Oh, I can't wait! This will be fun. I have a friend in Marco Island, and will probably go there for a day while we are down there. Oh, and trip included travelers insurance, which was $63. You can't beat that price! I highly recommend Priceline for booking trips if you need to go economy.
JoAnne, that trip to ME in July I'm sure will be a lot of fun. That's a good time to visit, though my preference would actually be Oct. for the foliage.
Karen
There's great fun in store for all.
JoAnn, I've never been to Maine, but would love to go.
Okay, no need for lizard kissing here. I've got my soul mate. I only know "Find a penny, pick it up and all day long you'll have good luck". BTW, this is sounding like a typical NE thread."What Are Your Favorite Sayings?" My mother had cutting boards with saying on them decorating the kitchen walls. My favorite was "No matter what I serve my guests, it seems they like my kitchen best".
Which is why most get togethers become kitchen parties MPL. I heard that found pennies are only lucky if found heads up; tails up is unlucky. To be safe I now cross the street if I see a penny.
Whether you have good luck or bad luck depends on whether you believe it.
Karen
Good advice from a coupla' nuts.
Laurel
Way to go, Karen! That's an awesome price you got for 2 people! I'll mark my calendar and Marilyn can tell us what date will work for her and Doug so we can plan our RU day! That will be fun!
I can't wait!
Karen
Karen - I don't know the Fla DG people, and I think I'll keep this more a visit than a real RU, given the demands of these two puppies! We are running in circles trying to keep them from outfoxing us! Today I was feeling pretty jangled trying to keep both of them out of trouble by myself. Tomorrow is Hank's golf league....oh dear...send good vibes my way, please! They are doing very well with their house training, but you can't let your guard down for a second....both have to go out whenever one tells you she needs to, and then one tries to go while the other attacks her in play. I'm feeling not as young as I used to be! LOL
Based on personal experience, late life children are demanding but will keep you young. Take your vitamins and prepare for the teen years. It's not all about house training as those of us with DHs know. lol
It's sooooo worth it for the joy though ^_^ I bet they make you laugh out loud DonnieB. We should all laugh out loud every day IMPO.
Yeah, I bet those 2 really keep you on your toes!
Karen
They look rather relaxed, Louise!
She drugged them! I find Quiet Moments helps lots---supposed to be for T-storms, or trips to the vet, but when we have company, Robs needs a large dose!
LOL, everyone!! These little girls alternate between wrestling and playing (as they are doing now) and then crashing for a good nap, so no drugs needed. They are also great sleepers at night. Hard to believe we've only had them one week tomorrow. Today they made life pretty easy for me, and they did very well with their first baths, so I'm not feeling as outclassed as I was yesterday. And yes, Dahlia, they do make us laugh out loud a LOT! They each have some very endearing Bichon traits that our other Bichons had. This photo was taken last night after Carli got hurt from playing too roughly. She needed a Mom moment. We think she looks a bit like Molly in the face, and she's gentle like our Max was. For now, they are still a full-time job!
Louise they are so adorable! I can't imagine not smiling/laughing with them around!!
Precisely, Celeste! Thanks....they really are endearing little ladies! One is a tomboy and the other is very feminine, but a mischievous instigator! Great little pair!
too cute Louise... glad you are enjoying them
Awwwww!!!!!! How sweet! They're just precious! I look forward to seeing them in person.
Karen
Me, too!
Thanks, Allison! And yes, Karen and Marilyn....they will be a couple months older by then and it will be fun to see what they are like then. They are both very quick learners. In only one week they've come a long way with walking on a leash and potty training, as well as riding in a car in their travel crate. Since we need them to be comfortable in a car, we take them with us often. As we speak, they are wrestling again! They have some pretty good moves! LOL
it was actually nice my two girls were a year apart.. both full of spunk to play... I could watch puppy play all day
and everyone knows my stories of Wall- and his sis, YIKES.
And airedales NEVER grow up!
Hi Liza! That would be great! The pups are herding us around nicely. Today I felt sort of old trying to keep one step ahead of them both while Hank was golfing. Looks like you had fun with your Grands! Best to John too!
