Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

I remember that neighbor's maple from last year!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, it's hard to forget!

South Hamilton, MA

Tulip tree is full of yellow leaves at the moment. Gives a glow through the upstairs windows.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

nice stuff Victor

Thanks, Allison.

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

Can a wayfaring wanderer cut in on the fun?

Here's some color still hanging in there - anybody recognize this part of the world?

Cornus kousa, 'Satomi' I think.

Great colors as usual Victor

ViburnumValley, you can cut in whenever you like, all are welcome.
Great color on that cornus kousa Satomi...or whatever it is ☺

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

V.V I know that birdhouse! It is a planted next to a Wha wonder house. Lucky birds. Patti

Some folks here know that I'm trespassing in your part of the world.

Just finished a week on Martha's Vineyard (national Holly Society of America annual meeting - what a blast!), and am now wending my way westward, with a fetch to the north.

Here's (again, not mine) Cercis chinensis 'Don Egolf' willing itself to turn golden prior to freezing...

OK, I've been busted by my hostess.

More pics from the wild wonderful way to Williamsville...there's Ilex verticillata, a Vaccinium I think (V. corymbosum, maybe?), with some willow in between, possibly.

lol..... hope your hosts are treating you well.

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

That was just one intense shrub - the kind you slam on the brakes for while the spouse is swearing and wondering what the *%^$#%#& you are doing.

I poured her some nice wine this evening, as restitution...

Yes, jen, New England has been all this southerner could ask for, and then some.

If I could only have been in the maelstrom Monday morning of the three tractor trailers that wrecked with meat carcasses, tomatoes, and paper products at the MASSpike Weston tollbooth - I could slip silently into that dark night knowing that my life would have been complete.

Absent that, I'm settling for the great roadside views of Vermont! Here's what I call heaven: larches, white pines, birch, all presented upon a drift of winterberries. Monet is still wishing he had lived around here...

Saw pictures of that wreck on TV. Winterberries are better.

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

I have had a soft spot for them since meeting the late Bob Simpson in the mid '80s, and seeing the plant in its native haunts along ponds in Maine in 1988. I look for them every time I can...

More from the nice people who took in a weary traveler...this is a 'Crimson Queen' illustrated in the earlier thread, looking quite grand still.

But enough of these youngsters! Here are some time-tested true talents, first from the Arnold.

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

OK, that was sad - almost heartbreaking - but even cut up and neatly stacked, there's better color there than a lot of folks bother to plant in their gardens.

Very near by (probably somewhat shocked to have witnessed that carnage) are more pleasant specimens...

The Arnold Arboretum is just an embarrassment of botanical riches, now these 137 odd years old. FLO and Dr. Sargent were quite the visionaries of their time.

More color in the maple persuasion...

Some sassy Stu(ew)artia - long and leggy...

Thumbnail by ViburnumValley
Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

Another screaming maple - this is Acer triflorum.

A whole 'nother different Stu(ew)artia pseudocamellia (same species as above), from an interior angle.

Cercidiphyllum japonicum giving good account for the genus...

VV--that last photo takes my breath away! I used to have trails like that right outside my door....sigh...
Thanks for posting it and I so glad you are enjoying New England!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

lovely shots VV

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Thanks for your NE appreciation. I used to travel south to see the redbuds and dogwoods in spring.
We have winterberries in my neighborhood. Love them too.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Beautiful shots VV, you have indeed captured N. E. is it's royal attire!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Nice shots, VV! Glad you got the chance to enjoy the northeast at the best time of the year. That stewartia is spectacular. Mine is only about 6 1/2 to 7 feet tall. Will be quite a long time before it resembles that beauty.

Here's another from the other day.

Nice, my kind of beach, deserted!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, this time of year. In the summer, if I took that same shot on a weekend, you would not see any sand! Gets packed with NYC people.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Just like any other beach does im sure! lol
