That pineapple sage sounds great. Maybe y'all should try Mr. Seive on them. He really has a way with salvia/sage seeds! 'Course if there just aren't any seeds in there, even Mr. Seive is woefully unsuccessful! I'll be watching for someone to post some of those seeds, sure want to try that poundcake recipe!
Cottage Garden Seed Swap & Chat #43
Mine are blooming so late that there are very few pods on there to get seeds from and we have had frost a couple of times because the foliage keeps getting damaged afraid I won't have a whole lot, it's raining again today and we are getting hard rains tonite, I may have a few left from last year if you don't find any that I didn't get to sow, I've been avoiding the seeds in the crisper so far, pretty scary it's full LOL That will be an end of the swap thing :)
Star, forgot to tell you your son is a nice looking man and very manly looking ;-) NICE!
So handsome and so Young. Bless his Heart.
Tell him we all say Thanks for our Freedom.
Charleen
I have Pineapple Sage plants out in gh that in bloom, til the codl came that been outside and I just am not findign the seed this year on them. Becaus e of so much rain and cold here they flowere d real late.
Folks her e tell me when foliage is rubebd that it smells like pinepple. Wish I coudl smell, cuz I sur e do love to eat pineapple.
Thanks. he a typicla teen. Will lend a hand to help anybody but mom. LOL naw, he use d to help me all the time. he would us e pick ax to turn the groudns and dig all the really big holes when I had to landscape shrubs in for folks.
I gettign ready to start on Dianthus and snapdragon seeds and found in fridge Sweet Pea Seed. Did anybody who got fromswap last year , did they get any to grow. I haven't grown any this year and haven't doe germ test on thes e yet , figured if somebody ha d some bloom wouldn't worry abotu it. Sinc e they have 96% germination rate.
Starlight, spend all the time you can with your boy -- you must be proud as punch. :-)
I don't know if my pineapple sage will set seeds yet before it gets cold again... but I'm thinking of trying to bring it inside in a pot... PF notes say you can do that & it will keep blooming. I don't know if it's "pineapple" particularly, but the scent is definitely fruity, not just sage-y. LeBug, thanks for LMK that the seeds (if I get any) should be viable!
New photos of my favorite "seedling" were just posted at the bottom of this thread: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1049530/#new
the is the prettiest pictures. Such a beautiful baby.
Loved the relaxed one with ALL the Babies.
Charleen
Jill -- does that bundle of smiles ever cry? she seems like the happiest baby in the world. Loved the description of her 'vocalizing'. I remember when my boys did that too.
OK... lets talk Cosmos....
I had some growing this year and i thought they were marked Cosmos Sensation Mix.... Pinks, dark pink and Whites...
then when i was going thru my seeds this morning, i found a baggie of Cosmos Sonata.... what is the difference??
I have the Orange too, but i know those are different.... those were Klondike.
I'm searching, and they do both look a like... i'm going to check the size of them in PF though....
tcs. The big differenc e between thos e two is the height. Sesation gets between 3 and 4 feet tall and Sonta only abotu 2 feet tall. You cna put Sonata in a container and it will do good, but Sensation really needs the ground and room to spread out.
I was thinking the same... I'm hoping i didn't mix up any seeds... but it did seem this year, all my cosmos were monsters... no real short ones... well ,there was the one that was supposed to be white and turned out pink... that one was short... no idea where i put those seeds.
I seem really disorganized this year... i have another bag that just says, Honey Bee... i forgot to add the Blue or White, as i have both... no idea which ones they are.
She's a remarkably happy baby girl, but of course she still has to let us know when she's hungry or in sudden, desperate need of a clean diaper. LOL
Even the "short" cosmos seem to get monster-tall for me. *shrug* Guess I'd better just limit them to the back edge!
I thought it was just mine that did that.Lots of cosmos have just "gone Crazy"
getting so tall. Isn't it strange?
Charleen
I'm getting my list ready to post. Do I do that Sunday or before? Work is so interfering with my seed swap!
Angie, the lists are going on a separate thread. Ella will be putting it up sometime Sunday afternoon.
Thanks, Sharon. I'll try to be ready!
I know you'll be there at the starting line, raring to go as soon as the whistle blows!
tcs I think we got all of your rain. Here in the southern edge of north carolina it has been raining since lunch and supposed to go all night. Sometimes it just pours. But we need it.
Ella please tell your son that I said thank you for protecting our freedom, and my prayers are with him.
I'm going to be trying to snort up a lot of zinnias and cosmos and salvia if I can. I got the new T&M catalog today and so I have to go and drool a while.
Angie.. heheheheheh you think it bad now , just wait til the oinkign starts and ya have to work and wonder what new stuf beign added. : )
Ella: I know. I can't stand not being able to play like the rest of you! Not only that, but I'll probably stay up late Sun. night trying to keep up and be a zombie for work on Monday.
Well just remmebr others are at work too and some folks oink at night and some early mornignand some durignthe day and folks post at all times. I don't think last year to many folsk missed out on what they wanted.
Folks pos t new offerigns at all tiems too, so ya just never know.
Starlight, In response to your message earlier...
How do I get in??
Bwahahahah.... I"m a house wife... i'll be on the PC day and night. ** wicked evil grin **
just taking a break from bagging and tagging... I need to make more tags...
Well, I've decided to drop out from the piggy fest for this year. Just haven't gotten anything done with what seeds I have, so think I'll pass and wait for next year. I was really hoping to get some Ruds too :(
But..there will be others later!
Have fun, everyone :)
God bless you and your boy Ella. Grab every second you can with him! There are enough old pigs (yikes, that sounded bad) around to hold down the fort while he's home.
Jill that little darlin' get's cuter everytime I see her (I meant the baby, but you can let DH think I was talking about him.)
I'll have some Cherry Brandy (as well as a few other ruds) up for grabs, but please don't ask for them until the swap officially starts. As many folks as we've got in the swap this year I doubt if I'll have enough to go around, so I want to be fair and give everyone a chance.
Terese I said an 'oops.' I meant to say that dad prefers the african marigold, but now that you referenced the calundula I think I'll grow some of those for him too. He's never had them before and since he's fond of reseeders I think he'll be pleased with them. I do have seed for those though, and am still in the market for french and african.
Star I can relate to not seing your son much. Mine has been overseas and have a grandson I haven't met yet and he is almost 1 1/2 years old. He just got out of the Air Force and is now in Texas, went to school while he was in service and as of October 1st became a pastor of a church there in Forestburg Tx. . I get to see him and his family for 5 days over Thanksgiving week. I may miss out a few days on swapping but not for long. Take time for your son.... life is tooo short!
I'm already telling myself not to sow too many of each kind of seed- in the 3 years I've lived here I've managed to fill the beds, and I'm finished making new ones (well, besides the veggie-cottage garden I have planned). I was growing a lot of annuals to fill spots with color, but have most of them pretty full of perennials from seed and from swaps now. I still love having the annuals, it will just have to be fewer of each kind.
Lala -- I dont have any "african" in stock - so to speak -- I do have one tall yellow out back, it's toast, but most the seed heads are still on it. others i've scattered on the ground.
as for the English [Pot] Marigolds... they are still blooming in all their glory. Last year, early Nov, when i pulled them out of the ground.. they were still blooming...
Daisys.. On Sunday afternoon just start watchign the seed trading forum. Keep your eye son it from between about 4-6 pm. We on same time, so no problems there.
At that tiem I wil be openign two threads. One which wil be the rules thread, which Lala did last year and wil work work just as well this year, with maybe oen or two little changes. That wil the chat thread and the thread on which you will ask folks for their seeds from off the second thread which you will see which wil be labled the Piggy Swap Seed List.
You wil look at the seed list, which wil change constantly, so you wil be wanting to check it all the time. Folks wil be adding stuff to it as they get more seed ready.
When you se somethign on the seed list you want you go to the Piggy Swap thread with the rule son it which wil be out chat thread and you say somethign like.
Star... I want some of your geranium splish splash seeds.
Blue Sprial.. I would liek soem of your marigold seeds.
LeBug.. I would like some of your red salvia seeds
And you keep makign posts liek that for the seed s you want. Then on the thread they wil say ok, got ya covered. ect. and you send them a dmail too abotu it as soon as ya can.
Folks wil be doign the same thing to you.
For example.. I wil turn aroudn and say :
Daisiy... I oinkign for some of your petunia seeds. : )
If you have enough you post ok, Star I got ya covere d and then I wil send you a dmail so you wil know to put my name on a package.
ClanCampbell.. If ya want to jump in along the way do so. Not evrybody has evrythign done at once. I knwo I never do and sure won't. Up intil the last day I will be pullign seed. The wap goe s over many weeks so we just post what we have as we have it ready.
Forgot to put this to if anybody interested:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1050879/
Lordy, hope I can do this right.
Charlene... it really sounds over whelming... but once you get the hang of it... it's pretty easy... the first few days, things are fast and furious, but it does slow down... then it picks up again when peeps add other seeds.
I do believe i will not be adding to my list... i'm just about done picking seeds... though i will add a lot of single packets of seeds that i got last year and never had the chance to use.
I'm afraid I'll have so many seed I won't ever get them planted.
These folks are so generous with their giving.
Thank you, all.
Hahahahahahahahah Rides. That why it calle d a Piggy Swap cuz our eye s are biggger than our tummies. I don't know how many Piggie s actually planted evrythign they they got . If anybody did, it probbaly only one or to folks. LOL
That what great abotu the Piggy swap. I have comemrcial seed, harvested seed, trade seed and seed left from Piggy swap wher e maybe I didn't plant it all , didn't have tiem or room or weather or whatver, or just trie d some of the seed and foudn out it don't like my area and so instea d of just lettign it sit in fridge, it goe s in Piggy swap where somebody els e cna have fun with it and if they don't liek it or us e it later on they cna trade it, or offer it back up in next years swap.
We all seed-a-holics with Piggy size eyes and mous e size time.
Rides... i've never germinated all the seeds i received. I'll be trying to give away some of what i got last year and have no room for anymore. I really need to downsize.
There's been no mention of it, so I'll ask if we are going to post our want list again this year? I like to check everyone's list and save seeds for them before I offer them to the general list. If we are still doing this then the newbies need to get to work on this list so they can post it as soon as possible.
mao
Very good, It should be fun. i 'll give it a try.
Thanks all.
That's a good question Mao. I was thinking the want lists were posted simultaneously with the have lists (or whenever someone got around to adding the "wants" to their post!) I was thinking that made the seeds available to everyone at the same time. I can understand some people's concern about pretrades, so I have tried to avoid that. I will, of course, handle it however it is decided, so we'll see what Star has to say. There will be plenty of seeds, even if we miss out on a few that we really would have liked (like those cherry brandy ruds!)
It's all good...
This piggy is gettin' real hungry! I'm fortunate to be able to take off work on Friday and Monday so will be preppin' seed packets on Friday and chompin' on Monday! Hmm, I may be able to get some actual gardening in on Friday and Saturday, too. My plants are feeling a little neglected. The only love they have been getting is me tuggin' on them for seeds! 'Course my excuse is I am waiting for my gloves to arrive from the glove co-op!
Anybody heard if Tuinkabouter is joining us this year?
Tonya
Tonya, Tuink posted in the beginning to say that she won't be in this year, because she'll be traveling the world.
Oh, too bad for us, but I am excited for her!
