DAILY PICS VOL. 253

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

A Goldfinch and a male House Finch (I think) sharing the bird bath.

Nice bushtit, tigerlily,
bluebird Dave, and crows and jays
and everypicture is fun.

MtnGirl, no particular kind of suet,
(they do like suet, and sometimes peanut butter)
at times you don't see them for days and then
4-5 days in row.
In the winter they do hold up in a marshy-bamboo hedge-powerline shrub setting next to us.
I still haven't seen their nests, someday I will run across a sock looking nest and hope I
have a camera.

Nice Shots Everyone!! Dave the Cowbird couple picture is awesome, Hack nice variety at your feeder's today.

Marlton, NJ

Nice one adel! Speaking of American Robins they told me they have them all year round down the shore.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Awesome shots as always guys!

- Just wanted to drop off a couple of pics I took yesterday, which I thought might be good enough for your Daily Pics thread. ☺

What kind of duck is that, WaterCan?

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

She, (I assume it's a female), was very friendly, and came closer as I was taking the pics.

- I wish I knew, I looked it up in Sibleys North America guide and I couldn't find it!

I'm sure someone will come along who can tell us.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

An escaped domesticated farm duck, derived from Mallard. Friendly, because it knows (or thinks it knows) that you have some bread ;-)

Lovely duck....love the hairstyle!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

LoL!
- Thank you Resin!

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

Is this an example of "angel wings", caused, I've read, by too much protien in the diet?

Awesome photos everyone!!
Tigerlily, cute angel wings!
Watercan, that duck is so cute with the little puff.
Adel, glad to see the Robins, they should be here soon.

The Bushtits are crowding the undersides of the sedum.

This eagle looked pretty as he flew past me.

The female House Finches were enjoying the water.

This House Finch was taking a break from a lunch of berries.

Not the clearest photo, but this is the first time I've seen a yellow-shafted Northern Flicker here.

These two Red-tailed Hawks were sure noisy as they flew by me.

Great pics everyone!

Love the ducks WC and Tiger!

Duc, Those Bushtits have such pretty eyes and that is a good catch on the Eagle! Congrats having the Flicker come in.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Quoting:
Not the clearest photo, but this is the first time I've seen a yellow-shafted Northern Flicker here.

I'd say it's an intermediate or hybrid; the malar stripe ("moustache") is red, as in Red-shafted, rather than black as in 'pure' Yellow-shafted, and it doesn't have a red spot on its nape, though it does have the browner face of Yellow-shafted.

Thank you Resin. I sure appreciate your input.

Marlton, NJ

I'm now seeing Yellow-rumped Warblers in the yard. Unfortunately my bird watching has to be done from the inside as we're having heavy rains here today and tomorrow.

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

pelle, duc's little bushtit is a female. The males have darker eyes.

Tiger, your little guy is adorable!!

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

They are just the cutest little birds! According to NWF "Field Guide to Birds of North America", they are one of the lightest of our birds. At .18 oz. they are lighter than some hummingbirds. Amazing!

Marlton, NJ

Very sweet! Thanks for the info tiger!

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

The Brown Creeper stopped by again this morning.

Got me a Lifer - Ya Hoo. This is the first time I've ever seen a Brown-headed Nuthatch.

I've been seeing this little bird for a while, but never had my camera. It was pouring rain, but it still paid a visit to a feeder. I was on my porch about 25 yards away..

Of course, the House Sparrows are always around.

Congrats bltefft! It's always exciting to add to the life list!

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

Thanks tigerlily,

You're so right, kinda reminds me of collecting baseball cards as a youngster, how thrilling it was to get a new card.

Hack

Marlton, NJ

Nice shot tiger!!

Congratulations Hack!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Oh Hack, that's a great one to get!

Renton, WA

Chickadee under nature's umbrella
as the rest of the birdies get soaked.
Took this just before the sky opened
up and cats and dogs poured.

Nice shot!

Renton, WA

no birds in this shot,
just the clouds falling, forming
and shortly thereafter, drenching,
then good ole sol pops out and
everyone lives happily everafter
(for a couple of hours)
(actually there are quite a few towhee,
junco and sparrows in there- enjoying
while it lasts)

Thumbnail by dirt_in_ozone7b
Renton, WA

thanks Gardenpom,
a little chickadee making sure
I kept my distance so it could pilfer
the finch feeder. This one pulled a
bunch out that some of the birds
flocked under and ate and were cheerleading
it on.
