I hope this comes out as dark orange as it looks, it is already in my basement for the winter
Elizabeth
new pic's of angels moonlight
Oh, Elizabeth it is beautiful. Not dark orange but, an orange, none the less.
Gorgeous. I have been looking for you all Day, got to talk to Dee, but not you.
It really is An Angel's Moonlight.
Charleen
Definately orange.Very pretty Elizabeth!
Dee
Elizabeth, got all my leaves cut off, now
there are only buds, is that how you do it?
That truelly is beautiful plant. You think they
can't get any better and then you see this. Fantastic.
Charleen
Ladies
it's good to see you
Charlene
take all the leaves off, is exactly how you do it, my poor P&C, is drooping so bad, I cut a whole limb off so you & Dee
could have a log, there are 3 logs that I have labeled, I will be sending you both along with clippings, I have to go copy the instructions, for hypertuffa pots for you both, I know you will have questions, after you recieve, I will be glad to answer them for you
Elizabeth
I have a chance of sharing my Beautiful blooming baby with one of our
Visitors. I am so glad. I didn't know what I was going to do wth all those cuttings.
That girl had Y's with Y's she is a grand girl after she got so tall. I
bet I cut 3 ft. Have the others out front , south side of house.
Charleen
P&C will bounce back ok, won't she, Elizabeth? I am very excited to try logs. I think it just so cool, that you can just lay a stick on the soil, and it will grow. But, I am also amazed at how easy it is to start brug cuttings.
Hmmm, I think I might need to turn the other spare bedroom into a tuffa room...who wants to wait til summer to try it?...lol
Dee
Charlene
I left 3 Brugs outside, just to see how hardy they were, we did have a frost last night, 2 of the 3 are in the ground, I will cut them back & mulch, to see how they do in our zone, I am glad you go to share with another brug lover
Elizabeth
Dee
it will be interesting, to see how well you do, & you will, next Summer, your yard will be so full, the first Brug I ever did see was at a local nursery, I knew I just had to have it, but not to the tune of $179.00, the next year my best friend, didn't want to dig hers up told me I could have it if I dug it up, it was the same one I had seen at the nursery
Elizabeth
Wasn't it beautiful out today girls...I mowed leaves...and put them on top of the ground outside the fence, then watered them down, so they will stay in place, hopefully... the start of the new brug bed!. The yard looks so much better. When the leaves are laying everywhere, I feel like I have a dirty floor.lol
Dee
Elizabeth, You start your cuttings in peatmoss instead of potting soil?
I have saved some 2 liter jugs, I could start some in those. Dee mentions
something in one of the links about a cloneing machine. What is that?
Charleen
Dee
it was a beautiful day, I got a lot done outside, then went to the basement, & begged my DH to carry the potting soil to the basement door, he did it, I was shocked, I guess he does still love me
Elizabeth
Charlene
if you google cloning box, they have an article on it, it's about the clippings you take from the mother plant
Elizabeth
$179....ouch!. How lucky you were that your friend didn't want to dig it up.
I know,Elizabeth, I can hardy wait til Summer!
Charleen, that is so nice of you to share. Won't it be fun, next year, to pick a couple newbies, to swamp with cuttings, like Elizabeth has done with us, this year?
Dee
Sure, he does. When we went to get our hay for the longears;
after we got the hay my DH got me a 5 gal. bucket of sand.
I guess mine loves me too.
charleen
Charlene
I do start my clipping in peatmoss & a glass container, I have a 10 gal. fish tank, I really like to use that, you get to see the healthy roots
Elizabeth
I think it is wonderful to share. Dee I have the EE in peat moss under my desk, the bags are open and I'm going to watch them. The peatmoss was damp and I don't want anything to happen to my beautiful ears you gave me. Never had so many EE in my life and don't want to lose them. got my cacti planted too. Elizabeth, we love you for shareing with us.
Charleen
How damp do you keep the peatmoss? Elizabeth. I do have an aquarium out on the front porch.
Charleen
Dee
the one plant you don't want is snowbank, P&C is so much easier, I had a snowbank it just sit there barley grew in 3 yrs
so I gave up on it
Charlene
of course he loves you, if I had the space, I would probably have mules, they are head strong like me, I love my family but not when it comes time to dig or take plants in, they aren't around
Elizabeth
Elizabeth, do you have any other brugs blooming in the basement. That's so neat.
Dee
That's the way it is with family.
Charleen
Dee
damp, not soggy, it would smell foul, if you keep it too wet, 2 days my clippings were in water, I had to empty it, then get the clippings in peatmoss
Elizabeth
Dee
in about 3 days I will take a pic of the basement, I have a variety of plants down there, I have the crown of thorns in the attic, I will show you my set up, up there also, I just glad I don't have to fight with my DH over my hobby
Elizabeth
YOu DON"T cover the top, then??? I might try it in one ofthose jugs first.
That would work too, wouldn't It?? I glad September not here, I got a big pot of peatmoss here
waitng to be used and to dry out a little. It is not soggy ,but damp.
Good kitty litter.
Charleen
My husband does help me dig big holes, if they are in un-tilled ground. All, I have to do is ask, but I won't ask, unless I really need him to.We still have our tiller from when we lived in the country, so most of the time,I am able to find a spot in a bed that was tilled. We will definately be tilling the area outside the fence next spring, for the brugs.
Dee
Charlene
I use the peatmoss, the Block, the same as you use for hypertuffa, with the hypertuffa, you nees a screen to sift your peatmoss, you don't want the wood, in your pot you're making, but I think you allready know that
Elizabeth
Have you girls tried the MG peat ? I bought a bag, when Elizabeth sent the first cuttings, I LOVE it...it is so loose and rich looking.
Dee
Dee, if you have him to till them now the ground will be in good shape to start for next spring.
go ahead and Preen it and you're ready to rock &roll....
Charleen
Dee
I am turning over the soil in my beds tommorrow, after I get you girls boxes mailed off, then I will double dig it next spring, I have a couple plant to plant also are your roses blooming? my joseph's coat is in full bloom, my DH has a bad back, he had the surgery, where they put a ray cage, he was the 9th person in the U.S. to have that done back in 1992
so I don't ask him to help me unless I am bushed
Elizabeth
Charlene
my P&C will bounce back, it does that when you dig it up, but then it comes back beautiful, I think I will cut another stem
off it I want standards, not bushy
Elizabeth
Elizabeth, is it hard to start a Joseph's coat??
My Daddy's rose is getting ready to bloom but
I am afraid it is going to get frozen. But it blooms
real good. Next year I am going to make Rose Petal Jelly with it.
It smells good.
Charleen
Oh, Charleen this ground is horrible.I need to get a load of manure(wanta ship me some, or loan me a critter for the winter..lol..) for the new bed, and I can't do it right now. I put manure in every bed that I put in.We'll get it done early spring. Got lots of other stuff to do right now.
Dee
Does the Y cut come back bushy?
The reg cuts make standards, Elizabeth??
Charleen
Dee, If it was dry enough, we could do a big box, but wet(you sure don'twant wet)
I would do it. Their doo id not wet like a cows, but it still has some weight to it.
Lordy, it helps them grow Too. You could make a tea, have you ever done that??
Charleen
Charlene
I cut the whole stalk, off with a Y, it has about 5 of those branches, it's side shoots, the suckers that make it bushey
if you wany a standard you have to keep them cut as soon as you see them, it doesn't hurt the main plant to take them off
Elizabeth
Yes, the roses are blooming their little hearts out. I think I am really going to like them, coming up the walk. This morning they had frost all over them, but they were still looking good.Boy, the knockoutroses are really easy!
Charleen Rose Petal Jelly ....sounds scrumpious
Dee
Charlene
have you ever, cut a piece of a rose, then put a glass gal. jar over it, it roots really well that way, I have did roses that way before, but it's best to do it in the spring
Elizabeth
I'll have to find it and send it to you. When you take a little taste you let it set on your tongue
and you can taste the roses. If you have a Sweet rose it is wonderful.
Charleen
Don't let me forget.
I have heard of the tea, but have never tried it...
Dee
Yes, I've done it. Now that I have an
access to sand I can do it again.
I love to stick them in sandy soil and start them too.
Charleen
