This flock of American Goldfinches are coming up to the second floor deck every day now. They don't even go to the feeder, guess they're just saying hello.

Margaret, your Shrike is pretty. Guess it just wanted you to take its picture too.
Mrs. Ed, congrats on your first Siskin. I'm expecting ours to arrive soon too. I think they're cute.

The Crows and other birds are enjoying the persimmons on the neighbor's trees.

We found this "granery" area on a tree while on our bird walk a few days ago. This was the outside bark on a tree where the resident Acorn Woodpeckers were storing their acorns.

Thumbnail by ducbucln
Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

The other side of the tree (this was an oak) was interesting where the outside bark had shed leaving a distinct line of holes.

The woodpeckers apparently have their own built-in way of making straight lines.

Our first Hermit Thrush arrived yesterday. Not a great photo, but hopefully I'll see more of this bird.

The Acorn Woodpeckers are fascinating.

I'll say! That's one holy tree!

Well I can't believe it. I just had a tufted titmouse show up in my yard. I haven't had one of those here ever, since we moved here in 2003!

Great shots Margaret, Mrs Ed and Duc!

Checking in from down the shore, I arrived early yesterday for the walk at the Cape May Migratory Bird Refuge. It was a great walk with lots of different birds. I got 6 new birds on my list.

Snow Goose, Pectoral Sandpiper, White-rumped Sandpiper,

Black Scoter, Rusty Blackbird and American Pipit.

Saw loads of Raptors. Bald Eagles, Peregrine Falcons, Merlins, Northern Harriers, Coopers Hawks and Sharp-shinned.

The weather was quite cold yesterday but today it's beautiful! There was a lot of flooding down here from the 2 Nor'Easters we just had and it had made a giant lake on the beach where it's usually just sand. It looked really odd and we had to look at everything from the dunes.
I went to a new area this morning and I'll tell you about it later. Some interesting history down here as well. Have a good day!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Wow, another great trip, pelle!

Well the sun came out and I got a better picture of the siskin.

Very pretty little Siskin, Mrs Ed.

Duc, your birdbath is the envy of everyone on the birdwatching forum. They are amazing photos of the tree. Is the tree dead?

Pelle, I look forward to hearing and seeing more of your trip to Cape May.

Melbourne, FL

I got a couple of pics of the male Painted Bunting today.

Margaret, yes the tree was dead.

Pelle, Cape May sounds like a fantastic place to visit. I, too, am looking forward to seeing your photos. I just saw my first American Pipit on the shore of our lake a couple weeks ago and never even realized they existed.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Oh my, GP, I love your photos!!! Please send one of two of these beauties out west. I love their colors!! Hope you get lots more pictures of these birds.

Melbourne, FL

Thanks. Here is the immature male Painted Bunting at the birdbath.
