LOL, Gita, I thought it might have been Johnny Jump Up, Jack in the Pulpit or Sweet William!
You know you're a gardener when.........
Garden boyfriends
~
Gita that was a good one
...you steal your neighbors 'trash'----today my mext doors has their whole yard 'blown out' by the yard guys, her I am ogling a pile of pine needles, dang it. I just had to take a few heaping helpings and run them back to my dogwood tree, to cover and bind down the leaves I used to mulch it, instead of buying mulch. Pretty now! Then when I got back later ,they had added a small pile of grass clippings, and all gone for their lunch break.. Well heck, that's got to go in my compost!! Later I had to avert my eyes as they sucked up allllll that beautiful potential leafmold and carted it off....
Sally, you should have asked them for it. They have to pay to get rid of it.
yeah, if you'd asked they probably would have carted it over to your compost heap!
Next year I'll ask my neighbor if I can scavenge what pine needles I want. I've already raked her driveway two or three times since my Sycamore drops these huge leaves, half on their side. I try to be a good neighbor sometimes cuz she has been, to us. Another neighbor already knows I have this pine straw fetish==I raked his twice and then he finished them up and brought me a garbage can full. I use them all around my blueberries, it's enough to finish the whole bed and looks nice.I couldn't commit to taking their whole pile of leaves yesterday. Hubby would frown, and I just don't have the time or space. I already snuck in six bags of shredded leaves from down the street. They are 'decorating' the tree line. My compost is already full! all I can handle. If there was a way I'd be on them...Real Life keeps limiting my garden endeavors.
Pardon me if I sound defensive! {8 ^)
Sally, I love pine needle mulch. Oh that pesky "real life" and get soooo in the way. LOL
You know you're a gardener when you can ogle a pile of pine needles (sallyg); you know you're a gardener when your brain goes dormant for the winter (along with your plants--Gitagal).
Hey! This is fun! You ladies rock!
You know you're a gardener when your teenagers ask you what you want for Christmas and all you can think of is: "I want a bag of orchid soil, a bag of sphagnum moss, and some clay pots."
"I want a bag of orchid soil, a bag of sphagnum moss, and some clay pots."
... "and a box of orchids from Hawaii!"
Jill, I'll go get them for you if you pick up the tab.:-} LOL Ric
LOL I've got a business card somewhere from the farmer's market retailer who sent a wonderful box to me after we went to Hawaii 5+ years ago... I picked out the varieties I wanted and paid for them at the market, and she shipped them after we got home. They were stunning, and since I ordered a dozen (!) the freight charges per plant weren't too bad -- definitely far less than purchasing them locally.
Sorry, digression.. if I find the name of the company & they're still in business I'll start a new thread! LOL
Did we do this one yet?
YKYAGW... you cut down on the perishables taking space
in the refridgerator so you can fit more bulb pans for forcing.
Tam
No we didn't! I'll admit when we replaced our main fridge and put the older one downstairs I did think of chilling possibilities.
Tammy, that's more of your Bulbdar at work!
You know you're a gardener when you're hiding packages of Beneficial Insects under other items in the fridge so no one else will get freaked out by them lurking among the food.
Oh I like that one Stormyla!
Sallyg - I bought a second refridgerator for bulbs & seeds. Silly DH is
putting his soda in there. The nerve! :-)
Tam
Tammy, Beer and wine would be more forgivable.
yeah... that's right. Who would be soda over bulbs & seeds?
(I do have a few little mini-bottles of sparkling wine in there
myself. I love those since DH doesn't drink - I can have just a
glass of it w/o spoiling the whole bottle).
LOLROF, Holly
DITTO!!! ROFL, Tammy~~
Gee I suppose I should put my seeds in the fridge too.
I store my (way too vast) seed collection in tin boxes in a cool basement
or in the refridgerator. I really need fridge space when I pot them up and
they need cold periods. I have a white board on the front of the fridge where
I track when ea pot was put in and when it needs to come out. Same
with the bulbs.
Tam
Oh if only I could be so organized. LOL Holly
YKYAGW, all you can think of is what tools you might have forgotten to care of in the gardens when you wake up to 18" of snow!! I think I'm safe but I did think about all the bamboo stakes I had planned to bring into the basement for my winter project which ARE buried :(
I was having some of those same thoughts yesterday, RCN. I will admit that Holiday activities were sparring with thoughts of gardening activities. I know that I left my favorite soil scoop out in a pot.
When everybody is shoveling snow from their driveway, we will be foraging in the garden for our stuff! I left that nice boot tray that we use to store wet boots near my outdoor repotting area... Looks like I am going to need it today! That's OK. A white Christmas is always more exciting for the kids (in all of us) :)
To all of you Happy Holidays !!
YKYAGW, Snow is flying and your rakes, hoes, loppers, digging iron and spade not to mention your gardening clogs are only a few feet from the front door but you have no idea were your snow-boots and snow-shovel are.
LOL, A couple of days ago I picked up a rake and hoe that had been left out in the Veggie garden. There is still a tomato cage and one of my bread trays laying down there.
ha ha--"Never give up, never surrender"
LOL--Quote: "...don't have an idea where the snow shovel is." Holly, right on!!
Tammy, start stocking up on sparklers so DH won't have room for his soda.
You know when...you can justify two feet of snow because it's a good cover for the perennials...
well, almost justify.
Sorry Sal, My back just will not justify more than 6"s of powder!LOL Ric
Sally, LOL, in spite of all the hardships the snow created, I was thinking the same thing - a nice insulating blanket for all the late plantings! But then I started thinking about all the Hellebores that looked so pretty last week starting to come into bloom that I wanted to take pictures of - poor things :(
I was thinking of those hellebores yesterday. Ric piled snow on top of the ones next to the house when he shoveled the walk. After watching him shovel all that snow I wasn't going to say a thing. Not sure where else he would have but the snow anyway.
Sally/Rcn, great gardening minds think a like, but then, I'm thinking about all of the piles of leaves that are still outside, unshreded on my lawn and wondering when they will ever dry out now.
You know you're a gardener when you get a kick out of the patterns the coffee grounds make on the snow when you toss them outside onto your shrubs.
YKYAGW, You've been shoveling snow for hours and you are careful not to pile it on certain plants. Ric
Very, very true, Ric!
You know you're a gardener when you're maniacal about not getting any melting agents near your plantings.
