LOL, I'm going to check one out today Ric!!
You know you're a gardener when.........
When you stop to pull tiny weeds growing in the moss between your stepping stones. Holly
I hope you all read Larry's article on Garden Quotes.....
I KNOW I am a gardener when they all touched my heart and soul! Gita

rcn... those are the exact same birds I was admiring at the Mullet Festival in NC (beginning of October)! Only problem was, we got into town just as the festivities were breaking up, and the people at the booth were loading their garden birdies back into their truck faster than I could manage to check them out. I'd have had to jump on top of one if I'd wanted to buy it!
So... if you have a link to the source for those, please share!!
Great thread guys!
You know you are a gardener when you chase your cat down to pick the seeds out
of her fur after she rolled on them on the kitchen table, where they were spread out
to dry.
You know you are a gardener when the most important criteria for picking a new
car is how well suited it is for carrying plants, shrubs & trees.
You know you are a gardener when you have to wash your hands when you get to
work 'cause you couldn't help but weed while walking to your car.
Tam
Oh Tammy, why do cats have to roll in or sit on the most important things??? many times I've had to fend the cat off the keyboard, when he could have a perfectly good and very nice warm lap just inches away!
...When you take kids to the park and want to weed grass out of the mulch around the swings.
Jill, aren't the birds great? I really like them because the stones they use for the sculptures are collected in Minnesota and look like those we've collected in Michigan - I want them all! LOL They aren't "cheap" however :( Originally found these on this site: http://www.frontgate.com/jump.jsp?itemID=20339&itemType=PROD... They do have a special right now if you ordered the "set" they send you a $100 gift card - "almost" like getting them for free! LOL I wanted to find out who actually made them and it took me forever but I finally found it! http://www.francismetalworks.com/index.html I can't find any information on their site about ordering but I am SO tempted, they're going to be at the Pennsylvania Christmas Show next week! http://francismetalworks.blogspot.com/ I did actually find another source for mail order and a little cheaper on this site: http://www.ocbeads.com/catalog.php?page=1&category=7
Sally, your idea (outlet for artists) has already entered my mind :) Problem is, we don't have an actual "outlet" and I'd have to figure out a way to squeeze them all into the truck when we travel! Just look at all the "fun" I could have making collections :)
The Pa Craft show is in Hbg. just 20 mins from my house. They sure are cute.
Gita, Thanks for the link.
YKNOWAGW......you don't sign on your PC for 2 days because you are just too darned tired due to garden clean up.
We're having some glorious days - cool, but sunny. Hence, I'm taking advantage of the weather to get some work done.
you know you are a gardener... when you keep all these little bags of silica gel that come in shoe boxes so you can keep your seeds dry!
Oh, very cool... I've been wondering if we can possibly make it to that show... will see how this busy week shapes up! I loved the little snails in your collage, too... but they don't appear on the website, so maybe they're made by somebody else?
Villiers, That's a good idea. Never thought of that one.
I like the meditating frog!

YKYAGW, you know a DG friend is close to where you're headed and you're thinking about meeting up :) Seriously, I doubt I'll make it to Harrisburg but if I do Holly, you'll be the first to know!
Jill, not sure which snails you liked best but these are the cheaper ones :) http://www.gardenartisans.us/riverstonesnailstatue.aspx These are a little more expensive: http://www.uncommongoods.com/item/item.jsp?source=family&itemId=14222. This Giant Snail is great but WAY over my budget!!!

Stormy, I know the "meditating frog" is made by Campania but haven't been able to find a link for mail order yet. http://campaniainternational.com/index.php?page=totally-zen-frog
It's the little ones wrapped in a coil of steel that I liked... and I am thinking that I might be able to make mini ones with copper wire or copper tubing... ;-)
Anyone planning to attend the Pennsylvania Christmas Show send us a dmail, we may be able to meet up with you. Ric
what is the Pennsylvania Christmas Show. I probably missed it ... sorry if
its repetitious for the rest of you.
Tam
I started a new thread for the show. Ric

You know you're a gardener when you suffer withdrawal symptoms from not having anything left to plant.
You also know you're a gardener when it's everything you can do to resist the last minute bulb sales and all threads relating to such events cause you anxiety trying to avoid the temptation!!
You know you're a gardener when you are outside in pj's and slippers early in the morning digging up half frozen sand to mix in your potting soil.
You know you're a gardener when you keep sending updates about bulb sales to the susceptible KNOWING you aren't going to buy any - and end up buying a ton! And having to dig up whole beds to accomodate them! In the cold!
LOL Donna, I did resist!1 I did resist!! But it was very stressful.
Holly, That's me PJ's and boots and a cup of joe.
oooohhh... now that one just hits home. I was out there in the freezing cold
shaking dirt out of the grass I was digging out to make the bed bigger... so I
could plant the 50% off bulbs I just couldn't resist. I am proud to say I did
stop when the snow really started coming down hard. :-)
LOL LOL LOL
You know you're a gardener when you suffer withdrawal symptoms from not having anything left to plant.
Boy...can I relate to that!!! I actually do have a few things left to plant but I've got the "symptoms" because the weather isn't cooperating :(
YKYAGW, you spend the day Christmas shopping, slide by a nursery on the drive home to enjoy the wonderful Poinsettia display they have every year and can't resist the temptation and end up buying TEN new houseplants!!! LOL
Youns are so bad.
I put off my visit to Homestead Gardens (fabulouso huge nursery) cuz I lacked the proper tools for a visit==must always take buckets and shovel for llama poo. Dangerous place! So big that they stock your tempting plants often in three different sizes, so you can always justify it!
Stormy--right on with the "withdrawal symptoms". It's hard to wind down for the winter but the weather really kicks you back. LOL, Holly on the PJ's in the garden! I've done it, too.
You know you're a gardener when you start eyeing seedheads with an intent for collection, not just to look at.
You know you're a gardener when you start innovating with booby-traps and deterrents for critters.
LOL Don't even mention that subject, Foxy! LOL Now I'm fighting the mice.
BOY!!! Do I know i am a gardener--as I have been without internet service for almost a week and a half and I, literally, was going bonkers not being able to be on DG.......It was like NO relaxing, down-time anymore!
Still not fully connected to everything---bought a new TV and signed up for one of those Comcast package deals--
SO much to do--and I am NOT technologically savvy. Have had 3 Comcast service men here--and they are all semi-ignoramuses.....
Anyway--at this point, I have to go to Google, get on Web mail-- and put in Dg to get connected. I hope it changes soon......
I missed you all--royally!!!!! Gita
Hey Tammy - that is the BEST mouse control - I have several outside cats that live most of the time in the barn.......I have absolutely no mouse problems - all cats are spayed or neutered and are rescues who just sort of found me....
YKYAGW you just cannot put the garden tools up for the winter----who knows, we MAY have another nice day
LOL! I've got a couple handfuls of bulbs left... my gloves, digger, and kneeling bench are right next to the box, just in case! Otherwise, I'll be potting them up for the fridge or for a sheltered outside spot, to try to force them this spring.
Foxnfirefly, Holly in PJ's? I'll bet the neighbors found that interesting! LOL Ric
You know you're a gardener when you're still finding plant stakes in your beds in December!! How many of them must have been out there??? I think I've collected almost 200.
You know your a gardener when you find illegible pieces of mini blind in your compost. LOL Ric
Thanks Tammy, What beautiful flowers. A load of mushroom soil is high on my wish list.
Only a gardener would understand. LOL
Holly, your love of Mushroom soil is almost as great as mine!!
Beautiful shooting stars, Tammy!
Holly,
"Meyer Seed International" (410-665-5511) sells mushroom compost in bags--like mulch bag-size-- (at least in the Spring) for ???$5-$6 a bag. They also ship anything--via UPS. Might cost you an arm and a leg, though, if you do this......You can call and ask.........
Living in PA--you are near the Mushroom growing country.....Have you called any of the growers to inquire?
G.
You know you're a gardener when you wake up with your sun-loving houseplants in the east windows, then you move them to the south windows, and then finally to the west windows to follow the sun all day.
timmijo, those are some well loved plants! I thought it was bad enough when I'd haul them out on a nice day during the cold season.
