You know your a gardener when you can remember the names of the plants you planted last week but can't remember the names of the people you were introduced to 2 days ago.
You know you're a gardener when.........

(don't fill the line, and use your enters button and space bar) I never would have thought up that cute arrangement tho!
I resemble every one of these remarks and cannot add a thing except thanks for showing me I AM NOT CRAZY, just a gardener.
You know you're a gardener when....
....all of your socks in the laundry have brown stains on the soles.
----dirty sneakers parked outside the door.
----99% of computer spam is from mail-order nurseries/garden magazines.
----when your DH says he's going to Home Depot to get something and you either:
1) hitch along to wander in the garden section or
2) add fertilizer or seeds or potting soil to his list.
---your idea of a romantic outing is a visit to the botanic garden or arboretum.
-----your choice of annual calendars isn't the Chip "n Dale or Beach Scenes sort: it's now Roses of the Year , Orchids, Herb Gardens, Castle Gardens, Cottage Gardens,Topiary Gardens, etc.
---
Foxy, those are some really good ones. I think we can all identify with them. Some of us have more than just muddy socks in the laundry and sneakers by the door. Gardening spam is the only kind I tolerate. We gardeners go a long way to keeping HD profitable!!
You know you're a gardener when often your last dozen seedlings are repotted using your forehead headlamp as you've run out of day light.
LOL!!! man this is a funny thread. I'm glad I'm not the only one with these problems!! ha ha!!
I'll add my 2 cents in:
You know you're a gardener when your husband knows that dinner preparation will ONLY BEGIN once the sun has fully set and you can no longer see what you are planting/potting/digging up in the yard.
Too true, Cheer. I think my DSO really regrets buying me that forehead headlamp. Too many nights when he's had to wait until 10 just to get a snack!
You know you're a gardener when, all summer long, everytime you want to leave the house you have to stop and wash your knees and legs.
Oh wow! that's funny...i never thought of that! I have one of those LED lights that attach to your ball cap brim which i occassionally use fishing at night with hubby.
this gives me new ideas :)
you know you're a gardener when, going to the car in the driveway with your bottled water in hand, you stop to pour some off on a dry plant......or worse yet, pour it all out and get keys to go back inside house to refill bottle and then commence, again, to go out to the car to continue on your errand.
LOL, I've done that Cheer.
You know you're a gardener when you make yourself late for work because you just had to pull the weeds you pass on the way to the car.
You know your a gardener when you show up for one of your neighbors' homegoods parties and everyone who passes your house on a daily basis says "Wow!! You clean up real good. Hardly recognized you!"
all so funny and true!
... you can't throw out old shoes or jeans cuz they're still good for gardening!
...every plastic container going into the recycle has to be examined for plant dish/ seed starting/ fertilizer mixing potential
Yes Sally... :)
You know you're a gardener when you have ziplock bags of seeds with question marks written on in sharpie markers them becasue you didn't remember to write down what seeds you were drying in the cups/styrofoam bowls/paper plates, and you tell yourself one day you will grow them just so you can identify the plant and then be able to properly label that batch of seeds when they are ready to dry...LOL!
You know your a gardener when you run the dish washer to get a clean pair of crocs or flip flops! :-) Ric
LOL, That's one I've never tried! Although I do put my gardening aprons through the washer more more than once to get them clean.
Roses, you reminded me of another good one.
You know you're a gardener when you stop by your favorite gardening center and the person waiting on you doesn't recognize you in your office regalia. It gets really bad when they eventually recognize you and then call all of the other nursery staff in to come see what you look like!
You know you are a gardener when----you slave and work and clean and rake--and then-- comes that AMAZING day when EVERYTHING that needs to be done in your Garden has been done....it has been 'put to sleep"......and now you can relax.......REALLY??????
EXCEPT--now your attention is turned to the house you have not vacuumed in 6 months.....The bathrooms you have not cleaned....and the cob-webs in all the corners tht have become part of your "decor"....
And the "Must do's" start all over again--except in a different direction. All those cob webs need to be cleaned and the dust bunnies vacuumed up.
Oh, yeah???? THEN--The watering regiment starts with all the plants you brought into your house.....The drips and puddles where there should not be any! The dried up plants you missed.....The endless sweeping-up of all the fallen leaves, etc....etc....
Then--you have about a 2 month reprieve--and the whole seed-starting mania takes over again--getting ready for the Seed Swap! And--it becomes another lost cause if you think you will have any free time.....
A viscous cycle--that's what it is! And--you are just a victim of it all.....BUT--you LOVE it all, nevertheless.....
You know you're a gardener when you'd rather play with manure than Lysol.
Stormy, I had to get a paper towel to wipe the coffee of the screen, thats a good one.
You know your a gardener when your co-works have to wipe lily pollen off your nose, "I just had to stop and smell them before being trapped inside for 7 hours".
ALL SO TRUE! I would rather spend the day in the damp yard today raking lovely wet fresh fallen leaves, than inside the cozy with cleaning chems. I seem to like dampness. I shoulda been a wood nymph! but I'm too tall and didn' t make the team. But.........some kind of balance must be struck, for the good of the family unit! I usually end up spending time outside, then cramming in some guilt-cleaning later in the day. But hey it makes me very "efficient" in my cleaning! I am a 'high-spot-hitter" rather than an "It is Monday, I will clean bathrooms" kind of scheduled cleaner.
Sally, I just got an inspiration for a new thread!
I'll start it and be back with a link.

Too tall too make the team. tee hee. Rained all day here. Good thing I had to work all day.
You know you're a gardener when you view Thanksgiving as a compost bonanza.
"Ykyagw"...housework aggravates all your ailments (bad knees, sore shoulder...) and gardening alleviates them!
You know you're a gardener when it your husband's birthday, and you decide the only fair thing to do is take a day off of gardening and clean the house as part of his birthday surprise and celebration. When he steps in the door after work and asks, "Oh, you cleaned the house, what's the special occassion?", you scream "Happy Birthday Honey!!!!!!"
How nice! it sounds like he appreciated it---Great that he noticed!
He did, it was his 47 birthday yesterday. I got him presents and cooked him a nice steak dinner, and had his cake and ice cream, but I sorta felt like a cheeseball "treating him" to housecleaning :) But, I have done so much gardening this summer and fall!! OMG, like a gardening binge!!! Sorta felt guilty about the housecleaning.
He knows gardening is my thing, and not to get between an woman and her plants! LOL He did get his "Miami Dolphins" yard flag for his birthday though....so he's happy!
You know you're a gardener when time away from your garden is the greatest gift you can give. One from the heart for sure. Welcome aboard, Cheer from the rest of the truly addicted!
Ya know, DH is a clutter violator, and does not expect decor of any kind, but I do know there are certain housecleaning things he notices on some level. I guess like I would feel if he cleaned my van--he did that recently to use it for work day trip, and it was nice.
Sally, some of those little things they do are really appreciated. (Cleaning my car is not a little job) I liked your statement about the housework and ailments and often find that true. But today, I will confess to being sore from cleaning up the beds and planting bulbs. I worked a lot in one bed that is sloping and that really aggravated my Plantar Faschitis.
Even though i've been reaching and bending everyday just picking up the hundreds of downed branches, the muscles used in cutting back foliage and digging bulbs seem to be different ones. Thank heavens for heat pads and ice packs!
You know you're a gardener when no matter how sore you are, you will plan on more of the same gardening activities the very next day.
I'd rather go out in the morning and gather more leaves, than color my hair (needs it) and take it easy. Is that sad?
No, I think it's wonderful! If there's day light, one should be outdoors enjoying it.
thanks-- that does seem to be my ...habit, addiction? since I don't go to an office every morning, I usually dress in yard clothes, drive the kids to school, maybe walk the dog, and do something in the yard. Shower later, when somebody who cares may see me, all cleaned up.
(and I wish somebody would tell me how to go to sleep)
LOL, You do stay up late for a mom.
Thank heavens for poptarts and kids that are happy to eat them on weekdays. (shame on me giving them junk food...) I better go try to sleep now so I can do Saturday pancakes!
Oh Goodness....just stumbled on this - you folks are soooo funny and I can identify with most of these,,,,,,,
Rose, one of my neighbors did not recognize me at the funeral home and asked someone who I was......boy, was he embarassed !!
You know you're a gardener because your fingernails are always short.
You know you're a gardener when you are up at 3:45 AM and reading Dave's Garden!!
Wow, that's quite a haul, Jrwbirds!! You are so right. Catbird, now don't make fun of us nightowls! LOL How else could I meet so many nice gardeners in Japan, Australia and Europe???
You know you're a gardener when your clothes are muddier than your kid's clothes!
Let's hope they don't have rain for tonight's fun!
You know you're a gardener when you are actually considering composting all of the unclaimed candy from Halloween.
Now how long will it take to unwrap all of those mini items?
Now Stormy, you know candy should not go into the compost ! LOL
You know you'r a gardener when you keep a plastic sheet in your trunk and an empty flat just in case.
Jrw... what a haul! You should have seen my car going to last springs swap, hubby's golf clubs almost didn't make it on that trip. It took me most of the day to pack all the plants for a safe trip. And the car was even more full on the way home. LOL
