Thanks.......Texas is not impressing me right now...........They were supposed to kill Colorado.......may switch over to LSU and Florida.
I adore Bristol's Bluebird! Had it a while back, but it died.
Did you see Tennessee beat Georgia?? Woot! LOL Go Vols! I haven't been that tickled over a football game in a while!
I missed it because I had to watch the Big 12 games.......A&M against Oklahoma State....and then Baylor and Oklahoma..........
Wow Gessiegail, your plants are just beautiful!
tamberlin you have dmail :)
I came down to my brother's house because my computer crashed when I waked up this morning. Thanks and Jim is our expert on streps........he will lead you in the right direction.
Because of the cooking and the memorial service tomorrow, i can't take my computer in.......don't know how long it will take to get it fixed as I just talked to my computer tech's wife and he is sick. plus..i need to take the modem into his office.
Love your beautiful Streps. Gail!! I hope you get our computer up and running soon.
Rain,
I lost a baby Bluebird too.I wonder if it is a touchy one?
Absolutely Gorgeous, Gail!!
Lovely blooms everyone! Since I can't keep Strep's alive I love coming to this forum and seeing all the many gorgeous bloom photos!
I was out of town for a few days and my Chirita 'Dreamtime' bloomed while I was gone and all but one of the flowers had dropped! My plants are all outside and it's been so dry here that I have to water every day. Needless to say, I found a lot of droopy plants when I returned home.
Lin,
Do you have any idea why a Chirita would suddenly develop a round brown spot on the leaves? .It was only on 2 plants, and only one leaf on each, but I don't want a problem to get started.I picked off the 2 leaves and haven't seen any more spots.
Lynn, LOL ... I don't have a clue. I don't know much about Chirita's ... just bought a couple when I first joined DG three years ago and got a few in trades. I don't really know a lot about any plant maladies. Do you think it could have been caused by temperature change or could it possibly be some sort of fungal spot? I am not the greatest plant caretaker. I like easy plants that will thrive on neglect because I go in spurts of being really attentive and then losing interest and leaving them alone. I think you did the right thing though. I would have removed any affected leaf too ... better to not take a chance on having it spread.
Most of my Chirita's that I still have, look okay, one tiny one looks a bit scraggly but that's because of neglect on my part and Dreamtime is kinda ugly ... long and lanky. I have found these things will get long necks like some AV's. I'm wondering if I can chop the top off and root it like I do with some other plants? I might give it a try one of these days. My problem is having too many different kinds of plants to pay attention to a certain collection. I've been saying for over a year now that I'm going to downsize ... still hasn't happened! I will give three away and end up buying five more! Right now there's no hope for me, LOL but when my DH retires in a few years I am definitely downsizing because we want to travel, and will be away for extended periods so I won't want to be tied down to a house full of plants!
Guess what, Lynn......i don't know because some of mine have them, too.......I think I am overwatering and letting them get too much light?????
Still don't have computer....down at my brother's house.......
Gail,
Looks like we need to figure this out.I thought maybe water was a problem too.
If I am not mistaken--some species chiritas just do that naturally-- C. longangensis is one.
Thanks Tommie ^_^. I know they are more succulent than most Gessies and like to dry out,but temperature doesn't seem to be a problem for them.I was wondering if I was overwatering.
Lynn, regarding the death of our Bristol's Bluebirds, I do find that some of the Bristol's Streps are quite delicate. I had a tray of Streps growing in an east window last spring. We had a several day heatwave that I didn't think anything of til I noticed that several of the Streps in that tray were in horrible condition. Sure enough, all the Bristol's in that tray had really suffered from the extra heat. The non-Bristol's Streps were wilted, but perked right back up when I moved them and gave them a bit of extra water.
I have noticed that Bristol's Goose Egg and Bristol's Sixth Scents are both quite hardy plants. Funny that they're both scented as well. Makes me wonder if the scented parent of those might contribute some hardiness to them...
That is a mouthful but oh what a lovely little plant! I adore the yellow bloom, very cute! Great growing as always Jan!
Hi All,
