Choice made, ready to take them away

And hide them away for the winter in the grass where no-one else will find them

Any left over after the end of winter, will grow into new pine trees, ensuring a place for future generations of nutcrackers

Nice start, Resin. Good to see a better view of a Glossy Ibis.

Good looking nutcracker,

Yesterday, a cold front brought in the first White crowned Sparrows I've seen this year.

I also saw this guy in the yard, I assume its a YBSS.

Thanks for the very nice start Resin! Love the Nutcracker!

Very nice pics Chris; beautiful White-crowned Sparrow!

Handsome Steller's Jay adel!

Nice Shots! Resin, cris8796, Adel. Resin whats the length of the Nutcracker?, it looks like the size of a crow unless those are really small pine cones.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Quoting:
whats the length of the Nutcracker?

A little larger than a Blue Jay, smaller than a crow; 32-35cm to be exact. The cones (Pinus cembra) are 6-8cm long.

Quoting:
I assume its a YBSS

Yep, immature Yellow-bellied Sapsucker

And a Steller's Jay in a pear tree

The fact that it isn't a partridge, proves it can't be christmas yet ;-)

Great start Resin!! I like the Nutcracker too!

This is a very handsome male Red-bellied Woodpecker that has been fighting with a female lately here on our trees.

Darn. and you weren't there!

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

Well folks, I'm off to central Georgia's Little Ocmulgee State Park (and Lodge) for a family reunion on the wife's side. The reunion is Saturday, but I'm gonna take my camera, I hope this is a good place to see some birds. According to the map on their web site, I see there is a nature walk with an observation deck over water. There is a swampy area to the north.

This is my first attempt to walk this far my prosthesis. I'll have my crutches in case I "give out of gas". I sure hope I see some neat new birds.

I'll be back - I hope.

This Great Egret didn't care about us until we started getting closer.

I think this is a Chinese Goose (domestic) along with the white (domestic) duck.

The goose seemed as intrigued with us as we were about him.

I see the bird season is starting to kick into gear. I went out last weekend and the Bluebirds were all around; they love to perch in this particular dead tree. Here's one that was hungry for a blueberry.
