I am sicker than a dog today, hope it goes away soon. It even hurts to type, talk or listen.
It's another Green Elephant Plan Swap!
OH, sorry you are ill. Hope it's not the flu.
I have so much to do, it is so annoying to feel like this. I hate to waste time. I might have to go back to bed.
Thanks so much, Melissa. I'd like to be on the cyclamen list, too. Kate, would you mind grabbing them for me?
I was really looking forward to going tomorrow. Maybe this will pass.
Lynn, if you can't make it, I can get some of the cyclamen back from Melissa and take it to Julie at work sometime next week.
I hope you feel better quick!
Thank you, Melissa and Kate!
Thanks you guys.
Lynn, we can always have an interim swap or seed-sowing or garden planning event or garden tour or nursery visitation this winter if we get stir crazy.
And there is another Green Elephant swap in the spring.
I'm game for anything! I have to take a nap in a few minutes.
Lynn,, this sounds like you need to rest and drink liquids, etc. If you think you might have the flu, PLEASE call your doctor and see if they can give you tamiflu. This is one of those times where you just don't question and go to the doctor. If ;you start vomiting, etc, -please call your doctor. The MD kind.
I feel like such a baby, complaining, when other people have such bigger issues. Thanks for the advice, Pixy.
Being sick is not "just a little problem". Especially with the nasties that are going around right now. Take care of yourself and do whatever it takes to get well.
I am going to be there. Dug up a big bag of Crocosmia 'Lucifer' bulbs for all who wants. I also dug up some clumps of Allum moly that will be there, along with some divisions of Siberian Iris bulbs (royal blue and yellow), I also have some divisions of Kniphofia pfitzeri (Red Hot poker) potted up. Each pot is easliy dividable in 4-6 independant plants.
I will attempt to be there early, as I have to leave 11-11:30 to get to work on time.
I'm going to miss meeting up with you guys . . .
Hey, if anyone finds a ribes sangineum, can you see if you can get it for luvplantsinms2? I'm still looking for one . . .
Thanks,
Kathy
Melissa, thank you again.
Pixy you have a very nice list, but I am wanting Asters, Penestemon and others that will last into the fall and winter. I also am wanting some Iris, just basic hybrids.
I do have Ribes sanguineum. I could make woody cuts in the morning, or I can do some air layering for later in the year. I doubt I have offsets.
Also I will be carrying a small plastic pond liner that we have not done anything with. Maybe one of the visitors will like it.
Glad to do it, Kathy.
so now, I want to be sure I know which names go on the cyclamen and to whom I'm handing off at the swap.
Kathy's pots to Kayte,, right?
Julie - are you coming tomorrow or shall I drop yours off next time I'm in Federal way for a massage? Did Sharon want some?
Lynn - Hope you are well, but if you are not, hope you are in bed. I'm taking the bamboo out of the car. I'll put your pots of cyclamen aside and when you feel better we'll get together, or I can drop yours at Julies,, or Pony can drop yours at Julie's, ... whatever it takes, we'll get it to you!
Am I missing anyone?
Rob, what color iris? Are you talking the tall bearded type? I can turn you on to some if that's what you are looking for. I also have these peach colored iris which are a short variety.
In terms of asters, I have this glorious white aster that blooms in great sweeping sprays of tiny white flowers. I don't know where I got it or what it is called, but if you are interested I can bring you cuttings. They would likely root very quickly. I also have some big football mums that are a great fall flower. http://www.bluestoneperennials.com/b/bp/MXFS.html. I have Quarterback, Homecoming, and Coral Cavalier, but I mix them all together so I don't know what is what. The cuttings root in about 2 weeks if you are interested.
Looks like I might be headed up that way, if I get out of bed early enough (That's been challenging lately, but I'm going to give it a shot)
If I make it, I'd take a carex comens seedling or two.
I'm bringing some big fat clumps of daylilies. I've promised Pony some, but if anyone wants chunks, they're big enough to carve pieces off without shorting her. PIx, any chance I could send them home with you for Pony? Varieties include: So Lovely, Sister Beulah, Naomi Ruth, Heavenly Gift, very small piece of Mary Reed (this one blooms like crazy for me) and a huge NOID that might be Frans Hals. However, in our summers it's usually a much darker red. So, it either is Frans Hals that's darker here, or some other older large daylily.
Big bag of TB iris, assorted, and mixed up. I know for sure there's "Stop the Music", and 'Midnight Oil", but there are others I've never even seen bloom and some old fashioned types, too.
Shasta daisies
Stachys "Silky Fleece"- short ground cover Lamb's Ears
small division of Heuchera "Amber Waves"
Several divisions of Heuchera Caramel
bunch of Autumn Joy Sedum
4 "Plum Tart" gladiolus Nice bright magenta, just not really my thing....
some red asiatic lily babies
some ferns
Monarda Raspberry wine
Blue Siberian Irises (looks like we've all got some of those, lol)
Also, just for Pix, if you want....I've got a Tradescantia called "Pixie". It's a bright green shiny trailer with small sized leaves, good grower. I've had it in a pot, not sure if it's a tropical or not. I could easily snip off a chunk for you.
Edited to add- pretty irises, Pix!

I am really open to iris, as I really only have a few, mostly the blue siberian. Tall short, what have you, I can do something with them.
As to asters, all I have are a tall small white flowered, which opens in September and lasts thruough mid october. Would love to have more, that's all I know.
Do you like Tall bearded irises as well?
I have never had that many Irises, so bring them all on, I will make room for them. Let me make 2010 the year of the iris.
Okay,, Rob. You've got Iris! And I'll bring you some cuttings of this awesome aster. Really, it's one of the prettiest plants I have and the growth habit is beautiful. Wish I knew where I got it. I think it may have come as a 'freebie' in a pot with something else.
Sue, if you make it up here I'll be glad to take Pony's stuff for her.
Glad I logged in one last time before bed! You have a couple of things I can use - including the cool 'pixie' tradescantia! Thanks for thinking of me!
If you have enough of the Mary Reed daylily, I'd love to have some. That was my husband's grandmother's name. He'd be touched.
I'd also like the little Stachys if it's not spoken for.
Would you like some of the peach iris, Sue? I'll check the thread before I leave tomorrow. I have the Carex for you.
Hi Pix, we're about out the door now (running a bit late, as usual). I don't have any other pieces of Mary Reed that I can bring today, but I will get you a piece the next time I"m either up that way or we all get together. IF that iris really is as short as it looks, a piece would be lovely. Some of the TB's I'm giving away were supposed to have been short ones, so it'd be nice to have one that really is shorter. :)
I will be leaving shortly, too, bringing my DW and DS, who is now 5 years old and the light of my life. I plan to leave about 11 or 11:30 to make it to work. So later arrivers need to work through someone else for the trade.
My cell is 425 773 0443 and email is rob.blomquist@gmail.com
Nice to meet you all, and went home very happy. Got rid of the pond I could not use, I hope I can get a picture of it in use, and made a lot of people happy with Crososmia "Lucifer" bulbs, and the Red Hot Poker plants. Took on a plethora of iris bulbs, Aster plants, Mahonia, and many other Mahonia that I never expected to take home.
Thanks for showing up and enduring the rain!
Lynn - I hope you don't have what I have: major Bronchitis. I finally got out of bed a bit ago, I feel like I'm 90.
Sorry Kathy - I was a no-show. I'm so tired of laying down - but walking 15' to get to the loo seems like an uphill climb at altitude.
Perhaps we'll need to go on a plant-acquisition journey before Winter sets in.
Susy - I have 2 Carex flagillifera babies if you like. I can dig them & heel them into the holding bed. Before or after Winter delivery - let me know.
Rob, good to see you at the swap. I'm almost positive you got one of these. If I'd had more lead time, I could have given you several other varieties. Sounds like you got enough to get started, though.
Kayte, I'm sorry to hear you are sick! Bronchitis is nothing to fool around with so do all the good things you know to do. You definitely had no business being out in this weather, anyway. We missed you, though.
Pony, I have a wagon load of plants for you from Sue. Come and get 'em! And bring a dolly. (Just kidding - I have one we can use. HA!)
Wish I had a photo of the car with the load of dahlias in the back. This guy backed up his van and his wife's van and opened the back - both loaded with the largest dahlia tubers I've ever seen. Honestly, people just stared with their mouths open. Guess he had too many! LOL!
Aw man... wish I'd been there for the dahlias!
You going to be around tomorrow mid-afternoon? I can stop by and get my plants then, or D-mail me if there's a better day/time to come by.
Okay. I'll stop by and get them. Thanks for bringing them home for me! Oh, and if you still have Julie and Lynn's cyclamen, I can grab them too, unless you're planning on being in FW soon to drop them off.
Katye, sorry to have missed seeing you, and that you and Lynn are both under the weather! But at least you stayed home out of the weather instead of making yourself sicker! I hope neither you nor Lynn has the same bronchitis that I've been dealing with since the end of September. It's taken until this week to get the cough to let up. Nasty bug. Drink tea, lots of tea, rest, and take all the herbs you can find!
And, I'd love to have the carex flagillifera babies. Um, when....well, let's get you healed up first. I'll be headed into Seattle Thursday, staying into Friday, but I don't know how long I'll be there-my mom's wanting me to take her to the Dr for some tests that might take all day. I won't have much available time to do stuff until afterward. When would be good for you, otherwise? I can check in with you later this week.
Pix, it was good to see you, and thanks again for taking Pony's DL home. We just got home-totally lost track of time talking with Rick's folks-and they had us stay for dinner, too. It was nice to be able to stick around that long and have dinner with them.
Rob, I'm guessing you'd left before I even got there. What nasty weather today! I suppose I'll meet up with you one of these days. :)
Green Elephants are seductive little creatures, aren't they? One starts picking and potting or up rooting plants to share in the days, weeks months before the event, then the car is loaded and off we drive. Plants come out of the car, Others plants are perused, deals are made, plants are proffered on others, discussions are had, bargains are given away.
Then comes the reckoning: a dozen or more plants that are either needing to be planted now, need to be pondered where to plant them, and at least one "why or where did I get this?"
My back hurts and only the most sensitive are planted.
Oh yes, and then at the end there are only a few people left, the rain has stopped, and all the leftover plants are piled together. I take home too much of something that sounds like it might work for the front bed, get home and google search the plant and realize it's going into the compost. Rats.
Sue, is it possible that this is what Jim was thrusting unceremoniously into my bag?

And, as one of the last to leave, you start anthropomorphizing the poor, abandoned, leftover plants that need homes......and end up with things you'd never in a million years otherwise bring home (sigh)
Pix, yes, I think that's exactly what he said, solidago multiradiata. Hmmm, somehow a Mt Rainier wildflower doesn't sound like a sterile non spreading goldenrod....Hope it dies in the compost....(Mine too, looks like...Sometimes I'm so happy I still have "clean green" collection)....Or, trying to be optimistic, maybe there's another one with a really similar name. Maybe send him an email to check?
