Closer up of that Cardinal Fuchsia. Some of my babies have buds too, but don't know if they will drop off or bloom since they were just transplanted. We'll see! : - )

SW, I see your plants are looking good. The one you said looks like a dried up stick , still looks ok to me. Mine looked worse so I knew they were dead. Your plants look a bit larger too. Did you buy starts? or established plants? My plants look to be smaller and thinner stems. Yours look health and robust. Not the case with mine. While some were larger and well established many were not. I ordered 35 plants so they went the rage from tiny to bigger around 8 inches.

I love your cardinal, Wish I could show you mine but it died, all Three!

I don't know why you feel the way you do but I was hoping we could share what our fuchsias were doing.
If I said anything to offend you, I do apologize. That was never my intent, but rather to share with you my experiences in growing fuchsia's and the joys of finally getting it right. This is my first year trying them too.
I was taught, If at first you don't succeed try, try again.
Do keep in touch.

None of my Angel Trumpets bloomed this year. : - (
I really don't know that much about fuchsia's. I watch and observe, and when I see something isn't working I move it. Can't keep sun loving lavender alive in my desert for anything. Bums me out. So when I find something that actually grows for me I'm really happy.
I can't afford plants that are too high maintenence. I tire easily, and love to be surrounded by flowering beauty. I am hoping besides feeding my craving for beauty they will also feed the birds. Drat! I took some more photos to show you and forgot to put them on the computer.
I am barely computer literate. My kids give me a hard time about it. LOL!
Most of the seedlings I've posted photos of are small ones, because they are easier for me to work with and root better for me. Also, I'm not upset when they die, and some always do, because they weren't that expensive. And I'll be able to replace them easier. I've never tried ordering any big plants via the mail. The ones I received were all well rooted, practically root bound. They were also in pretty good shape considering they were coiled up in a box, oh one had a broken branch which I stuck in a pot to see if it will root.
They've rebounded pretty good. I had no idea that for some, they can be so labor intensive. I've always been the kind of gardener who loves plants that thrive on benign neglect. Sometimes I push it, and in some ways I've been waiting 20 years to get to this point in my garden. I guess my garden is going to be a lifetime of work. : - )
Patience, observation, and keeping my paws off the plant, seems to work best for me. When the pot goes dry on top of the dirt, it's about time to mist 'em down. Otherwise I just look for wilt, check for burn, and bugs. Move as necessary to find it's "spot". I don't plant til they've survived their first year, because I've been black thumb gardener too many times, and have become kind of Philisophical about the whole thing. They got to be survivors to make it out here.
I'm too tired to post photos tonight, but will get to it as soon as I can.
Did enjoy seeing all your pretty babies, GC.
I don't know if it helps, but I also sing to my plants. They don't seem to mind, they seem to enjoy it and grow better. At least they don't tell me to stop singing out loud! LOL!
Keep me posted GC, I will post more tomorrow. I am very happy with my babies. : - )

Good Morning SingingWolf,
I'm a bit distracted this morning, woke up to find out that someone tried to hot wire my car so I'm stuck in the house for the day. =( . They pulled out the ignition and ripped out some of the dash so I'm out of a car for the weekend.

Sorry to hear none of your Angels bloomed this year. Do you know why? Location or too young? You do know that they only bloom above the Y. As in Y of a stem. What kind do you have? I love trumpets. I have many. I bought a bunch from someone on DG this summer. They are doubles! Cant wait till they bloom. I have all colors, I just love them. By the way that poke a dot one is some sort of mutation or something. They really dont come like that. I'm looking out my window now and its still has the spots! I thought they would disappear once fully opened but its still spotted.

Now as far as keeping plants alive ..... its all trial and error. You learn as time goes by what to do and when. But I'm with you on the idea of plants that can take care of themselves. Not because I have a black thumb but I have soooooo many I need the time. LOL I have hundreds of plants and its hard keeping up with them all. Its great when they can take care of themselves.
Sounds like you could do well with Cacti or succulents. Dont shy away from Cacti, some of them are very pretty, and succulents........... well I cant say enough about them! I'm in love with them too , ROTF. I have tons so any time you'd like to try some out .......... just let me know. I usually dont trade as I have enough plants right now I, if anything look for supplies to trade, if I dont just give the plants away. Most time I do.
We just had a plant swap at my house, some members from DG came too! It was fun. Thats who some of the Fuchsias were for, but I guess better luck next time. I found another seller willing to send me 100starters for $35 when I'm ready. Right now I'm busy propagating a bunch of stuff to ensure I dont lose any this winter. Coleus, pentas, sunflower tree, etc

Ohh you know what you may like Epi's they are easy to grow too. I have some of those if you want to give any a try. Real easy to care for.

As far as computer savvy........ I got none either, so join the club. My kids help me ALL the time, LOL.
My son just made me a diagram of a self-watering container for my Garden group web page. I have a small garden group online and they wanted to know how I build my containers. He went to program in my computer and in a few minutes ........ wala ........... he made me a beautiful diagram. It would have took me HOURS, LOL .

Yes Gardens can be a life time of work ........... but so worth it. I cant imagine life without it. They almost go hand and hand. Not to mention you get to make great new , loving sharing friends along the way !!!!! Just what we all need in life.

Ok gotta make the hubby some coffee,
I'm sure I'll be back on in a little bit ......... I'll post some new pix too.

Later peeps ,

over-and-out,

Sylvia
