well the wall is done and so are the sox - disappointing way to go out
New Garden Projects This Year #5
Glad about the wall---& since I'm a Mets fan, defeat is in the blood.
Bill - Bud is so upset about the Sox demise! Someone stole his earring....or something else horrendous happened to it.
Show us some pics of the finished wall!!!
Such a bummer about the Sox.
I got the backyard mowed, and finally got all my irises from Zebra Gardens planted. I had about 19 from them. They were quite dried out. I sure hope they will be okay. I also got 3 echis planted, as salvia and some BES and got a DL transplanted. Will got more done tomorrow, and then back to work on Tues. Bummer that my vaca is just about over.
Karen
Karen - hope you can make the most of your remaining day off tomorrow! Also hope the weather is nice for you!
Bought 7 bulbs of daff,'Thalia' at fund raising sale. We don't have too much time to decide where to put them.
Karen, I've bought dried up iris from Walmart's, soaked them in a pail of water overnight, then planted---they are all still fine.
Hope that you just soaked the roots, not the rhizomes.
Yes, only the roots. I know they don't like their rhizomes wet. They are in a good, well drained area, too. Might add a little lime to the soil. I think it might be a bit on the low PH side, as there was some moss growing in that garden, even though it's a very sandy soil.
Karen
I'm always battling moss in my areas with bearded iris!
Moss usually indicates an acid soil.
Karen
You can pick off the moss & add lime. Bearded iris like a neutral soil & most beardless like it acid.
Thanks, irisMA! I will do that.
Karen
I used lime last year but the moss is back. Should I lime again now?
??????????????
Wow... you guys and girls have been busy!!!! I miss you guys...
Karen, great looking orange dl... needless to say they would look really nice in my garden... when you start selling let me know... I would be happy to have it... no kidding... they are gorgeous... the pink ones I got from you did really well this year... I am trully happy!
Bill, love your compost bin... I have one and to be honest I need another one... can't believe how great they are... really love it...
finally planted all the irises I got... oh so excited about 3 new irises beds.... can't wait for next year... moving things around so much! so I should add lime to the beds? I added some compost to the new beds... did not know about the lime... I think Lavender also loves lime right???
planted all my plants from the RU... finally... really happy about it... really cool stuff!
big hug everyone... here is my last rose of this year... ah Tuscan Sun is really my favorite!!!!
Hi Kassia
Hey Kassia, good to "see" you.
Thanks kassia it looks like your bin because i copied the picture you posted last year :)
boojum lime is a yearly or even 6 month chore, spring and fall - from Iris's post lime would not have ill affects to the iris's, wood ash also works and they now have liquid lime that works instantly instead of waiting 6 months for granular lime to break down.
Here is a couple pictures of the completed wall
and here it is from the other side - the pots in the ground are a couple paeonia i picked up and day lilly's from celeste that will be planted in the spring
question - how do you know when you have too may rock walls?
answer - my in-laws stopped by yesterday and walked past this wall, and i mean within 3 feet of it, to use the compost bin and did not even notice it!!
answer 2 - either that or it looked like it had always been there.
your too much bill
It certainly doesn't look brand new. Bought older rocks? :)
Did you play with Legos as a kid, Bill???
iris i will never by a rock - this is new england :) most of these were left over "stock" from the driveway way. I am however out of stone except for a few left over - and do not know what to do - will have to go back across the pond and do some scouting i think :)
no never did have lego's
My son played with them all through childhood---great toy---he also builds rock walls---that's a lovely one, Bill. Iris, I soaked the whole rhizomes of the dried out iris---worked fine. Nice to know there's a liquid lime---I'll have to look for it---Kassia, your rose is awesome!
not the best of days - was able to bring in two large bags of t's before jack gets them tonight and took down two rows of plants and the contraption we use to keep them up. fil used a lot of velcro tape and green tie down wire this year. i do save both to try and get a second year of them - took 2 1/2 hours to do only 2 rows.
Bill - that wall looks great! I can't believe how much stone you have!!! (or DID have, before you finished your walls!) To quote my dear husband, " You can't have too many flowers or stone walls!" LOL Now, as to where you will get some new stones........hmmmmmm......
I guess I shouldn't have told you we were leaving here! If we have no more old stone walls when we return, we'll know where to come to find them! Beware, if you post a ton of photos of new walls while we're in FL, we'll recognize each and every stone. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
it is tempting to take a ride lousie :) i could not do that though and you do have some great walls!!
YA Gotta respect a great wall.
Well, Bill, the fun part is having you visit AND shop for just the perfect stone now and then! Looking forward to Spring. I get all mushy when I'm leaving here. LOL
I wouldn't be mushy... GET ME TO THE WARMTH!!
Thanks, Kassia! Nice to hear from you. Yes, that orange DL is really a nice one, and when I start selling I'll let you know. I love that Tuscan Sun rose. Very pretty. I need probably 4 compost bins like yours here. I have so many weeds, grass clippings and leaves that I compost in several different areas around my place.
Bill, excellent job on the wall. I don't think you can ever have too many rock walls. Same as you can never have too many DL's! LOL!
I'll have to look for that liquid lime. I get lots of wood ash in the winter when we use the wood stove. I can add that to the beds.
Louise, I wouldn't be leaving here till Jan. or just after Christmas. I like to see some winter, but then I'm craving warmth and sick of snow and cold.
Karen
lousie have a safe trip down to FL!
btw- mushy is what any veggy's are now if they were left in the garden.
Have a very safe trip down, Louise. Can't wait til it's our turn.
DonnieB are you leaving now? I missed that somewhere. Have a safe, fun trip down south and please post pics of how things are in FL as soon as you find a minute or two specially of the dahlias .
Have a safe trip, Louise & Hank! NH's temporary loss is FL's gain!
Thank you all so much! I'll definitely be in touch from the hot and humid South - just as soon as we're connected down there! I hope you all have a safe and healthy, beautiful winter! (smooch!) Bye Bye!
Louise
the veggy garden is put down all that is left is leeks, carrots, and broccoli - still will need to do the end of season roto-till
NOT bye bye dear DonnieB. Farewell dear one.
We will expect to hear from you in a few days.
