We'll see what I can do tonight when kiddo gets home with photo cord. We seem to have a lot of dump and run up here. This one's a sweetie, about 2 years old, black lab. He'll get to stay until we can track down an owner, find a new home or get him introduced to the gang and a place of his own.
Only trees left in the pot ghetto... to big to move by hand. Backhoe will dig this weekend and trees will go in then. 6 daylilies left for Jordan's display area will finish up the plants. Didn't get the garden done as our new arrival wants to lay on the lettuce... must gate the garden openings to stop it or lock him in the barn while I work.
Hope your drive home is safe. We've got wind but the rain has stopped for now. I'm guessing the computer and possibly power will go down tonight if the wind keeps up. Building a fire shortly. We need the rain but not the high winds. Glad the dog found us before this weather rolls in.
Apropos of Nothing v. 2
Good luck with your new arrival. How great are you to do that? Super!
It will probably be a good idea to turn the computer all the way off tonight.

Let's help these people get a new kitchen. You can vote once a day.
"Wallingford follows GAFunnyFarm tweets on Twitter. He recently found out that they don't have a real kitchen in their house because they spent the money on rescuing cats and kittens from GA high-kill shelters! Quite frankly, Wallingford was appalled that the poor cats and kittens had no counter to throw tomatoes off of or a refrigerator to sleep on top of - yadda, yadda, yadda. (I love him, but sometimes he is such a chatterbox!) Then he found out that they can get a kitchen for FREE! A local business is having a contest and the kitchen with the most votes gets a free makeover. Here is the link to the contest
http://wjbf.upickem.net/engine/Votes.aspx?PageType=VOTING&co
... and if you type in cat rescue in the search box - you will find them and the picture of their completely empty kitchen.
To vote for them, you have to register on the website but there is a box to check that you don't want third party offers. Wallingford would be very happy if the kitties in GA had their own stove to eat out of the pans from - just like he does. (I would be happy if they get a door in their kitchen so their kitties don't eat out of the pans!) I think the rescue is up to 98 cats and kittens now and they are fencing in several acres so that the kitties can run free and enjoy the stars and the sun and fresh air."
You are going to hate me(I have no names) but I grew pumpkins for pie and they grew only about 10 to 14 " in height and diameter BUT you can eat them like melons. We carved a pumpkin for my GD and at 1 1/2 and she kept eating it. Well we were all laughing and then she stuck a bunch in my mouth it was delicious. We took turns eating another one I had started on. Yes I have seeds. The other good thing is the vines only went about 10' and they didn't crush anything in the garden.

Great picture!
Katie, I voted for them.
Kool, Sofer...very kool. Nice hat, too.
Me too, Katie.
Cool. They have a website, too.

Sometimes I hate working 12 hr shifts. I always check in here but am too tired to read all that has been written. Three hours, eh, Sharran? I believe that! ;)
Topo Gigio. He was on "The Ed Sullivan Show". ('Keesa me goo'night, Eddie!') I had to Wikipedia that one but when I read it, I remembered it....
Oh dear, that does date me, doesn't it? lol
Cin
But it's a good 'date' I think, Cin!
Me, too, Pixy...me too!
Sofer - that is a really cute kid. Have fun with her!
I remember Ed Sullivan but I liked Perry Como better.
yes she and I are buds.
hey I remember topo, sky king, and my favorite petticoat junction. the early women's movement. its about time was fun. so much tv without murder and sex.
Obviously, I need to avoid Lowes.
*fighting urge*
UH, OH.....Many, many grasses - 1/2 price......
Shall I print a list??? MMWWUHHAHAHAH!
Pennisetum 'hamelin'
Pennisetum 'maudry' didn't get this, but they have it
panicum 'heavy metal'
soo many beautiful miscanthus sinensis cultivars: Morning light, Sarabande, Gracillimus, Yaku jima
Black bamboo, plus some Bambusa multiplex which I bought, but which I'm not sure I want. May take it back.
they have other grasses, too, but it's late and I don't remember. But when is the last time you could get a 3 gallon miscanthus, with nice infloresences, for 12.50?? I'm pulling out a bunch of perennials and putting in grasses in the front. less work, more texture and movement.
*squeak!* Bammmmmboooo...
*fights harder*
"green" with envy over the grasses at Lowe's...Why can't BC have Lowe's???? Ontario does, darn them!
Pony, did you ever get your comcast troubles fixed? Gulp...my son works for them in Virginia and it is his job exactly to help people with problems like yours so that you don't "hate" comcast and he's good at it....
I have a remote accessibility program on my computer so that when I have problems and fire it up he can access my computer from his at thome and help me fix them.
Soferdig? I know there is a bird-watching forum on DG but since you live in MT I was wondering if you know of a "crow sized black bird with white spots on its wings"? When my bro was driving thru there on his way to Portland he saw these birds and couldn't id them...
thanks, Cin
Cin, it turned out this time that comcast had pulled an even more ridiculous move than usual. My husband had called with a question about the bill, and for some reason when they accessed the account they changed my password. They didn't bother to mention this to him, and there was no sane reason for them to have done it.
So... yeah. I still hate comcast. Nothing against your son. ;)
Pony, I'll tell my son about that one....sheesh even! He said they are always advertising internal openings for the PNW...I keep telling him he should come out this way. My DIL teaches HS social studies though and she is tenured and worried about changing jobs, with good reason, given the economy....On the plus side, she DID love the PNW when she visited a couple of years ago.... maybe some day.
Hmmm....sounds like a trip to Lowes after work tonight may be in order!
LFS...Did the bird your son see have a long tail? If so, it was probably a Magpie. We don't have them on this side of the hill, but do have them in our EWA yard. They have white bellies too, and are quite a joy for us to watch when we are there. The residents aren't so fond of them though...I guess they are thieves. We had one steal a dog bone out of our boat when we were getting ready to put it in the garage.
My dad used to tell great stories about "playing" with Magpies when they went camping. You know, leaving a piece of pancake out, but tying it down. Most often, the Magpie would figure it out. They're problem solvers.
I just had to rescue ANOTHER sparrow out of the woodstove. This one I heard fall down the chimney. For cryin' out loud, this is ridiculous. We really need to fix that screen.
I just got back from Lowes. I'm proud to say I spent less than $10 and came home with two lovely purple daylilies.
Today I got a cortisone shot in my right shoulder, and a flu shot in my left arm. I won't be doing much for the next few days.
*scream*
TWO MORE BIRDS in the woodstove! A sparrow and a starling this time.
Pony, I'm thinkin the neighbor from hell may be tossing birdseed on your roof! Yup...best get at fixin that screen!
Something weird is definitely going on up there. Three birds in one day is just plain bizzare. o.0
Oh, and when my ortho said "Don't do anything with that arm for a few days" as I was leaving his office today, I'm sure what he really meant was "Go chase three birds around a big house waving a fish net with three apoplectic cats under your feet".
*nervous breakdown*
Lady fire magpies are crows with white wing at their sholders. They sound like crows, ravens, robins, etc.
Thanks for the magpie suggestions...he did say they had long tails so I will tell him to check that out....don't think magpies live in wisconsin...
Is that the same as the bird they call a camp robber?
We always called Jays camp robbers, but I see on the Internet that there are people who use that same term for Magpies.
Here's a picture of a Magpie. Of course, their actual appearance may vary across the U.S. as with other birds.
http://www.snowwowl.com/images/animals/air/magpie.jpg
it might be a camp robber disguise...those Jays are quite innovative.
Avian identity theft?
Exactly, Kathy: spot-on!
