Hi there -

We've had a member create a blog, but several of us get "access denied" when we try to access it. How is the user supposed to publish or share his/her blog?

For each entry that they want to share, they'll have to go in and edit the entry and uncheck the private box--otherwise they will be the only ones that can see it. The blog privacy works on an entry by entry basis--as far as I know there's no way to make the whole thing public/private in one click, they'll have to go into each entry and do it for each one.

I am the Poster in question who wanted to share an entry in my blog. I pasted the url from that tab and told the readers it was the first (so at the bottom) entry. I just checked (went into edit mode) that entry and it was not marked private.

I have had this problem myself: sometimes I can get into other people's journals /blogs and other times not. I guess I don't remember from time to time (this is if I want to see a specific person's info).

If you are in your own blog as in the edit mode, and copy the URL, no one can access it. YOu have to give them the URL in the public mode.

so that means I access my desired "posting url" from "My Info"? Or anyone can access it by going to my member page?

Yes, or to "View all members blogs" under Communities. I have it set up as part of my home page menu.

I don't see blogs on the member's page . . .

And clicking on Garden Blogs on the Communities Tab takes me to diaries. The last one for Cedar 18 is in 2008 . . .

Wow Katie. That can't be right (2008 I mean). I don't understand that. Unless that is the date I last set up a diary (blog) - as in created a new 'tab'. It certainly is not the last entry. I make them all the time!!

Maybe echoes or ecrane will set us straight. I, for one, need straightening out on a lot of things. But let's not go there!! :)

P.S. I just love being able to do bold type, etc.

Yes, on home pages, diaries means blogs. I'll go have another look at your diary.

Last update on cedar's is Sept 9, 09

I bring up your link with the correct blogs from 2009.

But when I click on Communities, then click on Gardening Blogs, then type in Cedar18 (the button says search diaries but the page header refers to Gardening Blogs), I get only 'Trip to TAT and Jewell Orchids, by beclu727 dated Sep 24, 2008 5:00 AM. And the page header is Diaries: Searching the diaries.

However, when I scroll through the index (they're sorted by date, so it's hard to find a specific person), the most recent post for cedar 18 is Sep 9, 2008.

So it seems that it has something to do with the search feature . . .

It would be good to have the language refer to EITHER blogs OR diaries so you know that there's no distinction. The use of the terms goes back and forth . . .

Katie, I see what you mean. I remember now that I encountered that 'search' issue before. Where you end up when you Search for me in the list of member's public blogs, is ANOTHER member's blog who mentioned me. For some reason, mine does not show up.

So from that search screen, I tried a few other DG members. I chose 2 from the list - got a hit on one and none found on the other. But if I clicked on the user name from the list, the "none" was there.

?? So some of us are inaccessible from that screen.

Could a DG admin person chime in?

The search feature in the blogs looks like it searches for content of the posts in the blogs, not for the names of blog owners. So if you're looking for people who have blogged about sunflowers you can search for sunflowers and it'll pull up people who've posted about them. But if you're trying to find a certain person's diary, the easiest thing to do is go to the member list and look them up there, then when you go to their member page you'll see the link to their diary. (Unless they've posted recently in their blog--then when you go to the list in the communities section you can scroll down and see them, but if it's been a while since they posted then you might be going through a lot of pages before you find theirs)

But can non-members find subscriber's diaries the same way? I would like to share with my Master Gardener club.

Unless they're a member they wouldn't be able to come in here and go to the member list to find your blog, but it's worth trying to send them a direct link to it and see if they can see it then. Normally I would have assumed that they wouldn't be able to see it without at least signing up as a member, but I remember a couple years ago sending a link to some people in my family so they could see the landscaping I'd had done and I never got any complaints that they couldn't see it (of course they might never have tried to look at it either! LOL)
