I love red flowers! She is gorgeous!
I think Amy is selling one of those....lemme go check!

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

She is beautiful and the foliage is so perfect!!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I sent her the first one she grew......and she is still propagating it. They are real easy to grow and simply take a little cutting and make it grow............I know lots of people have her. (I don't have one right now or would share with you)

Here is mini Everdina starting to bloom.

Semi mini 'Indigo Doll'
Looks like I moved her up to a pot too large for her!!!

Me too Lynn!!@@@@@

One of these days I'm going to get up the nerve to try a mini or another semi mini. I don't know why I'm afraid to try them. It just seems like you have to be more careful with them than standards. I'm sure this is my own silliness, but, aren't we all entitled? LOL I know they require more light than standards. Where would I order pots small enough to accomodate them?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lynn.......I have a really bad memory........I took leaves off recently to send, so I am waiting to stick some. Just make a note and get back to me this spring and I will have babies of her galore. (I think your winters get too cold to ship?)

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Gail,
OK.....if I remember to remind myself to remind you not to forget LOL.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I stick mini leaves and start them off in a one ounce little plastic cup like a 3ounce solo. I get them made by Dart at our local grocery store. I know that restaurant supplies carry all sizes of dart containers. Then I eventually move them to a little bigger ......finally they should never be in any container bigger than a 2" and avPat doesn't even do that. She trains them to live in a smaller pot.

I just ordered 21/4" round tub from Cape Cod. I wanted the 2" round tub but they have doubled in price this year.....

Also a real good taller pot is the 1 1/4 ounce pot you get at Party City.....or any Party store. They come 125 to a package.

Here are the one ounce pots with mini leaves in them.

Here are babies (both minis and semi minis separated from their mamas) in the one ounce cup.

There is someone . . . who shall remain nameless . . . (in Boerne) . . . who - I kid you not - has stuck over a dozen mini leaves in one little 2oz solo container . . . .

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I happen to know the person!!!!!! I have also seen where they stick the regular standard leaves and I can't quite believe what I am seeing either..............I watched them stick 8 leaves in a 4" pot one dayl.

Shanika, you asked on the other thread about ordering Sinns from the Ges Soc, but didn't want the speciosas. They would be on the hybrid list, which I just looked at, and it looks like most of the ones listed under Sinningia are not the speciosas. I love growing out Sinn hybrid seeds just to see what I get!

Sinn 'Gabriel's Horn' is one of my favorites! Very well behaved compact foliage, and you just can't beat the flowers!

Gail, I love Everdina and Stormy Rage!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

avPat is chomping at the bits for Everdina! I got both of them from LLG several months ago and may have to have one more order from LLG for the winter...............he does send nice small plants...........

Rain.........the speciosa seeds are listed under the hybrid section of the Gesneriad Society.......not the species side...........so are the peloric, etc...........

Yep, I told her they would be on the hybrid list. ^_^ I want to get some of the peloric ones, too. I like those.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

sorry...........I misread what you said..............I loved the peloric ones, too.........but now I have all the big Florist's gloxinias and they are taking up a lot of room..............

Might have to just grow the jack Evans and then get some of the hybrids and just grow the smaller ones to see what I get for fun (like you were talking about)

I have a ton of Sinn hybrids that I can't really do anything with. I don't feel right distributing them, but I hate to throw them away, and I don't have room for them all. LOL Quite a conundrum!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Why don't you feel right distibuting them...........I will take anything small (LOL)

Williston, ND

You cant call the hybrids by the names unless its something like ozark scentimental journey x self,if you self a plant its gotta be called x by self,if you dont do that all true hybrids will be lost and its really bad for the hobby,I hope this make sense

JIM

That's why I don't distribute them, Jim and Gail. I wouldn't want to be responsible for "muddying the gene pool", as it were. If I sent someone a hybrid Sinn. 'So and So' x 'Such and Such' and the person who gets it doesn't fully understand all that and propagates it and distributes the new plants as just Sinn 'So and So' then the whole line of Sinn 'So and So' has just been irreparably damaged. No one would ever know if they had the original or the hybrid.

I try to keep the crosses til they bloom so I'll know if they're anything spectacular, but I've got so many right now, I just don't know that I'll be able to. I'm gonna try though! LOL

Here's an example of a gorgeous hybrid! I got this in the box from Gary Mikita last year.

Mahvelous!

Isn't Strep 'Blueberry Butterflies' a cutie? I called Lyndon Lyon when I ordered and made sure I had bought all the mini or compact ones they had. I'm really pleased with all of them! Lyndon Lyon is another vendor I highly recommend!

One more of Petrocosmea formosa. I really love this one because of the big flowers!
