Last night we had the first hard killing frost of the season. Today was a rare sunny one for a change. When the clouds lifted this morning, the snow was visible a third of the way down the mountain sides! We took a drive to enjoy the good sun, and spotted this female Spruce Grouse picking grit along the side of a gravel road. She blends in as well with the background as the warbler above.

Oh my, what difference your climate compared to mine! The Spruce Grouse indeed has striking feather pattern! I've never seen one before. And the Steller's Jay. What contrast of the impending frost and the last of the Sunflowers of the Summer! Thanks Gary for the wonderful pictures.
